I ventured out Wednesday morning to the grocery store after being hunkered down for the last 2 weeks. Seniors only from 7:00 am to 8:00 am. Dear wife made the last sojourn looking for a few things we needed without much success about a week and a half ago. She’s not much of a early riser and I am so, I got there at 6:55 and a bunch of old guys and gals were forming by the doors waiting for them to open. Got in and no antiseptic wipes to wipe down the cart but I figured as much and had a plastic baggie with Clorox wipes in my pocket so after wiping the thing down I hurried in there.
What I thought would be a slow moving crowd was SO wrong (for the most part) as the old codgers were hurrying about trying to get the same things I was after. Bread,fruit,produce and meat, especially chicken. I was making good time and the shelves were not too bad but, no toilet paper, hand wipes or antiseptic wipes of any kind. Expected.
Got out of there at 7:55 without incident. Unloaded it all and jumped in the shower, scrubbed down and put on clean duds.
Ah, provisioned for a couple weeks now and we’re hunkering back down with all we need!

Yes, forgot to mention, phoenix, I’ve been doing to Coldeze lozenges a day – rationing my supply because it’s all I have, but I’m convinced that the Vitamin D, C, and the zinc kept me extra healthy – to the point I was able to get that cataract surgery last week – just before they delayed these procedures.

I just cannot do the zinc…tried 2 different types … gives me stomach pains. I think DP mentioned an intolerance to zinc, as well.

I have a bird feeder i leave out hanging in the tree. Bc of the creek and the layout of where Im at we have field rats. I flipped the light on and a rat was eating bird seed. I picked up a tennis ball and nailed it from 8ft away. He ran back to the neighbor’s house. No more bird seed out for a while though.
Have a similar problem with our feeders.
We have six feeding stations.
Our property backs up to a wooded area with a creek at the bottom of the hill.
First it was field mice that discovered the sunflower seeds that the birds would knock onto the ground…then the field rats came.
There were so many of them…I started having a reoccurring dream of standing out on our patio with a .357 in each hand, shooting them as they ran towards the house.
It never got that bad.
That was just my fears coming out in a dream.
We got a big doggy who solved the problem of the rats and mice.
That’s not why we got him, though…it was a nice surprise to see that he had zero tolerance for any rodents in his yard.
So whenever you get a dog, Gil, chances are that he/she will take care of your rat problem.

I think so. The lots are bigger here and the people who moved in next door wont even pull weeds. And theyve got a shed. Rat heaven. They are determined pests for sure.
we have a wood shed where we also house our tractor and four wheelers. hubby has had to place tennis balls on the exhaust pipes of the four wheelers because mice would build nests in there. now they are making them in his tractor engine. he put out bait stations and rat poison in them. we find raccoons routinely raiding the bait stations…like it’s a buffet…

Kiddo lost another tooth today. His 1st center top front tooth. Lost one on bottom a month ago so hes got that giant gap. I teased him we can just stuff 1 macaroni noodle in at a time to eat now. He thought it was funny.

An elderly woman passed away and it was reported as COVID-19 when in fact she died of natural causes…one listed a man’s name as a COVID-19 death when he was in fact ALIVE & WELL and pissed to see his name among the dead…
now, of course, I cannot find the article anywhere.
Your eyes didn’t deceive you. There was a case of a woman whose death was touted as a COVID death – she had not got her test results back yet. Turns out – negative. She died from other causes.

The heaviest use of hospital beds is during the winter months, when flu, pneumonia and complications from chronic diseases take their toll on the most vulnerable – which are the elderly. Including heart attacks.
As an RN, I’m not comforting myself with anything other than a lifetime of experience, working in homeless clinic currently, and being a member of the Medical Reserve Corps.
I’m all for being prepared, it’s what I do. What I won’t do is believe the sky is falling. People will die from the CV, but I’ll be interested in the numbers of suicides, drug overdoses, etc. which stem from people having the rug pulled out from under them.

I’m not exaggerating anything – I am by nature optimistic, and I’m not stupid. Being that I am in the medical field, and right now all they can show people AFTER weeks of fearmongering – are empty beds prepared for the what if, tells me that this is overblown.
I said the “heaviest use” of hospital beds is in the winter months AND it is due to the complications elderly and compromised people get who are MORE prone to medical events in the winter months.

I strongly believe that the WuFlu has been in this country for several months – travel from China wasn’t stopped until early February – meaning thousands of travels went back and forth between U.S. and Wuhan, China. That said, I also believe that there were deaths from the CV chalked up to “flu” or pneumonia. BTW, pneumonia is usually the actual cause of death in many disease entities, but especially influenza cases. I also believe that the CV is a viral strain that in any other year wouldn’t have received much notice – except that we have a GOP president, and the Democrats are out of power. This daily dread/fear porn is to harm the psyche of this nation.
Which leads me to another point. If we’d had a GOP POTUS in WWll, we’d be speaking German right now, because the media (which was already sympathetic to Hitler, anti-Semitiism, would have gone full bore against GOP policies.
My term, Malignant Media, has never been more applicable than in this situation and observing what they do every day.

Again, I make these comments for context in comparison to other illnesses which sweep across this country seasonally. If the Dems hadn’t needed a weapon – they wouldn’t have pushed to destroy the country. Think about that – under Obama – this would have been, “Oh well, too bad, old folks have to die sometime.”

The way flu cases are counted by the CDC is something I have been most interested to learn more about.
We HAVE to understand that + we Have to understand exponential growth in order to understand President Trump’s decisions and leadership on this issue and why he has done what he has done.
At this point, we have 231,654 cases of flu that have been diagnosed and confirmed via testing. Some of that number is overlap as private labs send their positive tests to the state labs and they are re-tested and counted as more positives so there are literally less confirmed cases by testing.
As of right now, we have 231,654 Confirmed cases of the flu, confirmed by flu lab tests (and even some of those are double counts)
As of right now, we have 68,814 Confirmed cases of the WuFlu, confirmed by WuFlu lab tests.
The Flu cases are from the fall months until now….Many, Many weeks to get to 231,654 confirmed cases.
The Wuflu cases are from the last 4 weeks until now!! Took 4 weeks, Just 26 days of March to go from 24 cases to 68,814 cases (and that number will be 1,000s more by the end of the day)
Technically, WuFlu cases are from mid Jan. As of Feb 28 we had 19 confirmed cases in the US and on the 24th it “jumped” to 24 cases. So entering, midnight March 1 we had 24 confirmed cases and now 68,814 at the beginning of 3/26.
And the growth is Exponential. Remember when the shutdown began and many were asking what the big deal was about several hundred cases … which became a few thousand… Exponential Growth of a VERY contagious virus that has a High rate of complications and hospitalizations + a high death rate of those with complications/hospitalizations/hardest cases. (currently at 1,037 deaths/428 recovered)
(Please remember to NOT calculate the death rate by the deaths to known cases. But neither is the total death rate the resolved cases as we know there are many more cases, the milder cases that do not show up in the confirmed by tests # of cases. When the not confirmed by tests milder cases are added in via informed estimates/educated guess, the death rate goes down. That is why we see 80K cases in China, 3K dead but a much lower % of death rate. However a current death rate of those ill enough to be hospitalized is sobering)
Understand that the flu counts that are much higher numbers include informed estimates of undiagnosed cases, mild case, those who never went to the doctor, etc. Those count for the Vast Majority of presumed/assumed flu #s.
We can NOT compare the 68,814 confirmed cases of WuFlu to the estimated number of All flu cases but only to the confirmed number of flu cases which is only 231,654 and the Known, documented deaths from flu, etc.
We Must remember that when the WuFlu receives the same treatment, then the #s will skyrocket – i.e. when we include mild cases, cases that never went to the doctor, doctor diagnosed but unconfirmed cases, etc. the number of WuFlu cases will skyrocket … just like the number of seasonal/regular flu does every year when the diagnosed cases are inflated by informed estimates/educated guess of All cases and those number are added to the literal numbers.
We MUST compare apples to apples v. apples to oranges or we will not understand the data on which President Trump is making decisions and basing his leadership of this awful situation.
Compare this morning’s 69K wuhan virus cases that are growing exponentially Only with the 232K flu cases that are tapering off.
And then remember that it is NOT today’s 69K …. it is where this is going and how fast. The crisis is days away in some areas a few weeks away in other areas and to slow the spread, prevents &/or lessens the crisis.
The actions taken when we only had a few hundred cases and when we only had a few thousand cases were NOT based on the current number at that time but were based on the growth rate. Imagine if we had not taken all of these actions! Our numbers of current cases would be crushing the hospitals! With the actions taken we have (currently) manageable growth. In NYC where they did not listen…rapid, crushing growth.
To discuss this in comparison to the flu is inaccurate and to focus on Today’s numbers when asking why we are taking such drastic actions Ignores the actual Reasons – exponential growth due to its incredibly contagious nature, forecasted case load and High complications rate.
At some point, we have to “get” these basic concepts and we need to Trust Trump!
I trust Trump. I am not going to get into the numbers, exponential or otherwise. Being in healthcare, I know what I was seeing for months – I do know how to look at what the FLU brings my area every year – and based on that fact alone – 9 dead from CV in the entire damn state of Virginia, after knowing we’ve likely had CV here for months – we have large Chinese population, and New York City traffic back and forth, I’m not going to give in, and I do believe this has been pushed as the Sky is Falling, the Sky is Falling vs that this is LIFE and we go through some years with more illness, and some with less.
Again, it is NOT the current 9 deaths.
1) it is the total hospital load/saturation/beds filled with patients now
and 2) the onslaught of coming cases that will fill the hospitals
It is NOT the current stats – it is the growth rate and the oncoming cases being onboarded now and over the coming weeks. This is what President Trump has said and we need to Trust Trump.
The current actions are NOT based on Today’s numbers – they are based on the coming weeks projections, as President Trump has explained.
Regardless if it began circulating earlier than known or not, WuFlu has now hit critical #s and the incoming patients are ill. WuFlu is real and is overburdening the hospitals. We need not be fearful but we do need to take it seriously, stay grounded in reality and be wise.
Trust Trump – he is taking Strong actions against a Real Illness.
Fear only ought to lead to the beginning of wisdom…motivate us to take the feared thing seriously, learning about it, become informed and take the necessary steps for it not to be a fearful thing.
A child must learn to be fearful of things, understand that they are really dangerous, in order to develop wisdom but they ought not be held in the state of ignorance and emotional fearfulness. Learn that cars on the street are dangerous but then learn to stay off of the street – fear first based on the full realization of the danger of the situation and then develop knowledge and understanding which leads to wisdom and the dissipation of emotional fear. Same with hot stove/iron/fire, guns, knives, jumping from various heights, etc.
Same with us and Wuhan. It is not “fear porn” to deal in the reality of a bad situation. It is comfort porn to ignore that reality or try to explain it away through creative/imaginative stats &/or rationale that diminish the realty of what we are experiencing. Comfort porn makes us question President Trump, his decisions and his leadership. Not good, esp. at a time when we need to be unified and support.
My point is that “9 Deaths” should be far higher (Virginia) at this point. In fact, with all the We’re Doomed and POTUS failed the People out there, half the population would be dead by now. That’s what’s been projected.
Simply using the fact that it’s been here in the states for months shows that going exponential with numbers is not based in reality. There are already walkbacks on the numbers happening.
The good thing? Shutting down nursing homes from people who bring in diseases will actually save folks who normally succumb sooner and quicker.

the bread aisle was completely filled today. still no eggs at all. toilet paper was depleted and rationed, but there were about 20 12-packs of Scott there today. vitamin C is still out. potatoes were sparse but some still available; no flour available.

shoppers were older, and the store was pretty emty–but that’s how it usually is this time of year when the kids are in school. the cashiers were not protected by plexiglass tho.

This is such a good example of why local & state-by-state management is more important. Within states, I’d like to see graphs based on population centers. You posted a reference to how differently VA is handling this v. when, as you put it, “flu runs rampant”. I think the cases of flu in VA may not be as “rampant” as some may think it is.
This is on track to be MUCH bigger than the flu for VA (and the US).
There have only been less than 6,000 cases of flu in the entire state of VA for the entire year of 2019. The flu AND flu related deaths in VA are 2-4K a year. This is on track to be much more. Please understand that in only 20 days VA has gone from 0 to 460 confirmed cases.
In Only 20 days, VA has almost 10% of the Wuflu cases as you had flu in 2019…and its the Growth that matters, NOT current numbers. VA’s Wuflu will outpace last years entire year of flu cases in a matter of weeks at the current growth rate … and then it increases from there.

Another reason to slow the spread: Right now many are staying home and working from home but many are also still working and all essential businesses, from public utilities to internet providers, grocery stores to medical providers, from retailers to many other white collar industries and manufacturing…all working almost normal.
Rapid spread of the virus, due to its Highly contagious nature, would also close businesses and impair society’s functioning of services, national defense and medical services/systems due to large #s of people being out sick at once.
We need to slow the spread so that No sector of our society is overwhelmed by the illness and cease to function as needed – whether by incoming cases to our medical system or large number of ill workers not able to do their job in the medical system, police, fire fighters, truckers, etc.

A dose of his own medicine could be a positive learning experience, but it would also be good to get him back on the field of play.
Still have to give him credit for his analysis (primarily his economic these days) and support he gives the President (mostly economic policy support), and he has a good sized audience, so it helps.

I wasn’t too impressed with his economic analysis either.
He tried to claim once that we were paying twice for social security&medicare and all those off budget things–he was alleging that social security tax revenue was hidden and the income tax (and other taxes) was paying for the social security program as well as discretionary spending, and that the government was therefore siphoning off the extra 2 trillion.
All I had to do was point him to an independet site with a top level view of federal income and spending.

He’s right about the “hoax” part in that the virus has been used as a political weapon against America’s wellbeing.
Otherwise, the virus could/should have been treated as a serious public health concern and dealt with the usual precautions when we have outbreaks of communicable diseases. Blanket extreme measures was overkill, and if we’d had monitored borders and intense screening of incoming folks we could have lessened our ground zero sites.

I suppose it depends on whether he was impeached for crimes during office as opposed to being impeached for not even being qualified to take office in the first place.
If he was a lawful president (i.e., qualified to run, didn’t cheat or commit fraud or other crimes to win), but committed crimes during his time in office (as everyone knows he did), then I don’t see how it would nullify everything he did in office.
But if it is proven that he was illegitimate from the outset, that he was never lawfully qualified or did not win office lawfully, then his presidency should be nullified ab initio, from the beginning, as if it never happened.
And if, lawfully speaking, it never happened, then anything that flows from it was illegitimate, and likewise must be nullified.
Sort of like fruit of the poisoned tree.
There has to be a legitimate foundation, everything has to track backward, we can’t just put an asterisk next to a LAW as if it was just some stat on a baseball card, signifying a shortened baseball season.
