I read something somewhere that contained some interesting stats on gun ownership. I have no idea how these people can possibly know their data is any good given how cagey a lot of people are about their firearms, but here it is:
The top three percent of people who own guns tend to own a LOT of them (>25). If you look at the other 97% of people who own guns, the average is three guns.
Now, if anyone feels challenged by this and needs to get a couple of more guns to go over the magic “25” number, I am not going to complain, and neither is the nearest gun shop.

I’ve come to believe that the word “regulated” in the Second Amendment was intended to convey a meaning closer to “outfitted”, as in “stocked with necessary items in good order.” If you change that one word, the entire 2A reads more easily and it makes sense to have that clause there. Instead, the regulatory state has consistently tried to force the meaning of “obeys regulations” into the word.
It is also to be noted that British professional soldiers at the time were known as “Regulars”.
I have always read it like that, to mean that supplies and munitions were regulated — stocked, as you say; in good order — not that people were regulated.
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
When you read it like that it makes perfect sense. The people are to be armed well and in good order so they can be part of the militia to secure the free state.

I hate to disagree, LP, but we’ve seen Americans react in much less public ways to this. Suicide is up, as is domestic abuse. Going out and joining a riot really isn’t our style.

One of the most memorable classes I ever had in college was given by a TA. IIRC, it was Econ101 — certainly an upper division general Econ class. We had the big lecture in the giant hall where the Professor could orate to his heart’s content, but now we were going to have multiple one-hour follow-on lessons.
At the first class, there was some administrative paperwork, and the TA kicked it off with a question: “what is Economics?” There was the usual undergrad flailing about until someone came up with, “Economics is a Social Science” — which got a quick “good” from the TA. followed quickly with, “what is a Social Science?”
This (as fully intended) engendered more — and more chaotic — flailing that he let continue for some time.
Then he laid down a truth bomb. “A Social Science is an academic study that says, ‘human behavior can be explained by X’ — and the different values of X mark the boundaries of the different disciplines. History says that X is ‘what people have done before.’ Freudian psychiatry says that X is ‘the interplay of id, libido, and ego’. Sociology says X is ‘mob behavior’. Political Science says it’s ‘the political framework and its machinations’. Anthropology says X is ‘culture’. Linguistics says that X is ‘the thought-units that can be expressed in a language’.”
Coming from such a strong exposition, he continued, “…..and Economics is the strongest and most powerful of all the social sciences, both for its predictive abilities and real-world interactions…..because it begins with, ‘human behavior can be explained by GREED’.” [Mind you, this was no slur — it was well-understood in this department that “greed” was a simple desire to better one’s circumstances.]

AG Barr has reiterated that the standard for charging someone is if Justice has proof of a crime that they feel they can prove beyond a reasonable doubt. In the case of the January 5th meeting that Susan Rice wrote herself an email about, I don’t think there is proof that we have seen of O committing a crime. AG Barr also said that, from what he knows now, he doesn’t expect Durham to bring charges against O or Biden.
Of course, Barr’s statement is true for that moment in time. I sincerely hope there is proof of criminality by O and Hillary and many others, but I’m not holding my breath. Some have said that, even if they are not indicted, the take-down of their legacies and reputations and influence on the Dem Party, the country, and the world will be great punishment. This is the first I’ve heard of an institution making a flu vaccine mandatory to control the spread of Covid. In the past, only healthcare facilities have required employees to receive the flu vaccine.
I question if this is even legal for a university to require the vaccines. And also why they want all their employees vaccinated. Makes me think of the pork in Congressional bills.

There’s a lot of universities that require this unless you’re living at home while attending.
Living on campus was required most definitely in my era but I thought many schools have changed the policy in the last decade or so. I know our local college doesn’t require it and a family member at Texas AM never lived on campus. For one thing, it’s generally less expensive if 4 share expenses in an apartment nor take the food plan. Another factor is the school finding land for and building housing, not to mention staffing and maintaining it.
Personally, I like the idea of campus/dorm living, at least freshmen year…it’s a huge leap for many to leave their comfortable nest of 18 years and take on the responsibility of accountability for getting yourself up and attending a 8 am class, putting in the necessary hours for study when the temptations of off campus life beckons you, etc. Lots of life lessons to be presented your freshman year in a dorm…kind of sets you up for life, in many cases.
One of my closet friends to this day was my freshman dorm roommate!

He was sentenced to five years for a home invasion in Texas in 2009. He moved to Minneapolis “shortly after” he got out in 2014. So, he served the whole five? Does that EVER happen anymore? No “good behavior” or anything to shorten the sentence?
I looked up the bar both he and the police officer worked in for a year at the same time. I found it on Google Maps street view. The owner made it out to be such a BIG place, with SO MANY employees, that these two might never have met each other. I call BULLSHIT, the place is not very big. They knew each other, at least in passing. I can’t imagine how they wouldn’t.

If you work in one of those places as security you’ll meet everyone doing inside security and outside security in less than a week and be on first name basis. Unless Floyd was convulsing in the back seat of the police car, then they would have called the ambulance LATER, but in the video there doesn’t really seem to be any point where they say “OMG, stop the knee pinch, he’s in trouble, get an ambulance!” To me it looks like the ambulance was arranged from the beginning, when there was not need for one, since the need didn’t show up until later.
Basically, the ambulance call appears to have needed to happen before there was any NEED for an ambulance.

I hit the ‘Return’ key…and the unfinished comment posted.
That’s exactly what happens, at least once a week it seems, and I don’t know what causes it, e.g., if I am accidentally pressing some other key at the same time I hit return, and WordPress interprets that as a key-code of some kind to post.
It seems to happen when WP is already kind of twitchy…which it has been the last few days.
And I am positive that I wasn’t accidentally pushing another key at the same time.
My guess would be…that WP has a chat function, where hitting the ‘Return’ key initiates posting.
And sometimes there is a bleed-over of that function.
