I’d favor tying them to vertical posts and shooting them in the gut. Let it take a long time.
But alas, someone posted a cite to the effect that lethal injection is the only method the feds use.
And, of course, I’m weighing in with my usual admonition for the use of nitrogen asphyxiation.
A little peek at the backstory: the processing of silicon wafers frequently uses processes that have to be done in a vacuum (which are considered a pain-in-the-tuchis), and processes which can be done in “atmosphere”. I once worked for a company making wafer-handling robots, and we made a “vacuum” line and an “atmospheric” line.
Mind you, “atmosphere” did not mean “air”, with its mixture of substances and wild contaminants — it meant a selected gas…..and, most of the time, that gas is nitrogen. There are actually nitrogen pipelines that criss-cross Silicon Valley — it’s metered and it’s just like your water bill or your gas bill.
With that much nitrogen flowing around, and doing controlled reactions in unventilated spaces, there are many opportunities for industrial accidents. I was reading accounts of these industrial accidents in the local paper while reading a bunch of anti-death-penalty propaganda about the horrors of lethal injection, electrocution, and the gas chamber….and started thinking, “wait, how is it that an industrial accident is less stressful than the officially sanctioned procedures????”
I had done some SCUBA diving before this and was familiar with partial pressures, and did some further research, and came to the conclusion that nitrogen asphyxiation was the most merciful, painless, reliable, and side-effect-free means of terminating life. If I had a faithful dog whose foreseeable future was pain, I would have no hesitation in using this method — especially in that I could hold and stroke my pet (provided I was breathing air).
While ordinarily I might favor feeding death row felons slowly into shredding machines, I would also favor nitrogen asphyxiation to clear the backlog of judicial executions because it should (but wouldn’t) silence the “but it’s cruel….” crowd. There’s no twitching, no pain — it isn’t even necessary for straps or restraints.

I can be fun in all sorts of other ways, but for this I am serious. There are all sorts of arguments that capital punishment is cruel because there is pain, or twitching, or it takes a while, or drugs suppress signs of distress. Industrial accidents with nitrogen demonstrate that there is no distress with nitrogen asphyxiation — there is a loss of consciousness once the partial pressure of oxygen falls below the level that sustains consciousness, and shortly thereafter, life shuts down.

IF painless is part of the goal, then nitrogen asphyxiation is the way to go. It’s probably more expensive to set up the airtight chamber than it is to set up a hospital bed with restraints, though so that will be an argument against it from the beancounter standpoint.
It doesn’t have to be airtight — it can leak like a sieve — just so long as it doesn’t leak to an occupied area. The industrial accidents that started me thinking about the issue generally took place in standard R&D spaces.
We’re trying to take the oxygen content below the point where it sustains life — about 10%. In a room 10 ft x 10 ft x 8 ft high, there are 800 cu ft — about 30% of that would be oxygen, or about 240 cu ft. A standard aluminum SCUBA tank holds 80 cu ft. If the room were sealed (with a pressure relief valve), you’d release one SCUBA tank’s worth in, and the 80 cu ft that would blow out would be 30% oxygen — or about 24 cu ft. The amount remaining in the room would be 216 cu ft, or 27%. Put in a second tank of N2, and you’d have 21 cu ft of oxygen less heading out, or 195 cu ft., or 25%. After a third tank, you’d lose 19 cu ft, for 176 cu ft remaining, or 22%. Fourth, 17 cu ft lost, resulting in 159; fifth, 16 cu ft lost, resulting in 143, or 18% (note that this is where a candle would go out).
A sixth tank would blow out 14 cu ft of oxygen, resulting in 129; A seventh would blow out 12 cu ft of oxygen, resulting in 117 (14%); an eighth would blow out 11 more, taking us down to 106; a ninth would blow out 10 more, taking us down to 96; and a tenth tank would blow out 10 more cu ft, taking us to 86 cu ft of 02 in the 800 cu ft room. We’d have less than 11% oxygen in the room and we’d have leaked 800 cubic feet of gas into the atmosphere.
The guy would almost certainly have passed by then — my guess is that he’d go unconscious around the time a candle went out and pass-on a couple of respirations further. Further, we started with 70/30 because it was easier…..you actually start out at 78 and 21. Building a little spreadsheet, you actually go below 6% oxygen around tank 12. That implies that you’d want about 24 tanks (because something ALWAYS goes wrong, and you want to only do this once per prisoner) in case someone, e.g., includes a standard air SCUBA cylinder in your racks of nitrogen cylinders. Running out of cylinders in mid-execution would most likely result in substantial dain bramage and resultant medical costs.
….and that’s in a 10 x 10 room that leaks like crazy. That’s enough room for a recliner, a video screen, DVD rack…..the only necessary item would be a heater (when you open an 80 cf tank, things get very cold very fast).
How about a one way space flight?

Treepers – I have my own little personal rebellion going on here in Provo, Utah, since our dear leaders on the city council enacted a new mask mandate for all against the Mayor’s wishes and those of the Police Chief. She actually vetoed their resolution and they over-rode her veto. What nice little communists. Anyway, each week, I send them an email along the lines of “Dear Comrades” followed with a paragraph of sarcasm mocking their rules and ending with Sieg Heil and someone’s name. The first week it was George Soros, the second week it was Nancy Pelosi, and for my third week’s email, it will be Gretchen Witmer. The possibilities for mockery and names to accompany the messages are endless. I am hoping they will see how utterly foolish they are in trying to enforce this unenforceable rule, but since the council’s leader is a college professor and we have two lawyers and another teacher on it as well, I doubt they have much introspection. I have also ordered my Trump 2020 face mask to wear, because if you are going to insist that I wear a mask, I am going to be in your face about who I am supporting. Pat you can see the spikes in that first graph. The first spike peaks in the month of December and the second after the Chinese New Year. The third spike was around Easter when the European version was hitting the USA and President Trump called for 30 days to level the peak.
The Morbitity (DEATH) peak really did not hit until the March thru June time period when the virus was seeded through out the Nursing homes. This is seen in the Second graph. WITHOUT that peak, mostly due to Nursing Home deaths, 2019-2020 season would have been no worse than the 2017-2018 flu season.
We now know the Chyna virus is NOT highly contagious, at least no more than any other flu, so the normal winter precautions in nursing homes would have worked IF THE DISEASE WAS NOT SEEDED.

So was this a situation like the NJ gyms, and they were allowed to book solo appointments? If that’s the case, and the stylist did confirm it with her (I can’t imagine he’d do it without letting her know) Pelosi is just another solo appointment, flaunting the mask mandate. Although she has it hanging around her neck like she always does.
I did not clarify the NJ gyms thing. The gyms were closed, until 9/1. But you could book individual training sessions.
DISCLAIMER: I can’t stand Pelosi, believe she is a fraud, think she is trying to destroy this country, and loathe her war on Pres. Trump.
That said, I have thought that if this is a practice the salon allows, then Pelosi was just another customer taking advantage of what a stylist told her she could do. And Pelosi could claim that any other person could also have done the same thing….which begs the question, did Pelosi pay more to have that privilege?
I also don’t see the big deal about not wearing a mask after her hair was shampooed and she was walking to a different area of the salon. She had to have the mask off while her hair was being washed, so the stylist had already been “exposed.” Much as I empathize with the owner, her argument about not wearing a mask rings hollow with me. It’s not as if the place was full of people.
The big deal that I see is Pelosi’s taking advantage of a situation without looking out for the litle guy. Upon being told she could come in, did she ask if that privilege was afforded to the general public, one at a time? Did she check to see if it was permitted under the rules of the city/state? And, was she in the least concerned about the optics of her doing what everyone else thought they were prohibited from doing?
I also wonder if the owner gets a commission off of work like this that stylists do there. Certainly not enough to keep her in business, though.
I agree with everyone that the optics of this are terrible for Pelosi, but I think we should pick our battles carefully.

No offense taken, but I’ll explain anyway…this was the War of Independence…as far as they were concerned before the treaty of Paris was signed we were still legally part of the United Kingdom, and the land west of the Appalachians was not part of any of the 13 colonies (though some had claims there). They COULD have simply KEPT the land west of the Appalachians, and simply recognized the 13 colonies/states’ claims east of the Appalachians. We actually got very favorable terms from the Treaty of Paris.
Of course, just because England recognized us as independent doesn’t mean they were really accepting of it; they tried to reconquer us in 1812 (and gave us a few bloody noses and a national anthem in the process) and at least half-heartedly tried to exploit the Civil War, perhaps hoping to pick up some or all of the pieces if the US fell apart.

In 1770 the second largest British city was Philadelphia…a very distant second to London.
The 1790 census counted 3,893,000 people in America (including slaves). [George Washington and Thomas Jefferson both believed this number was low.] I really don’t know for sure what the population was in 1776, but I found one guess that it was 2.5 million. This was puny next to England’s population, right? Well…no. The population of England was roughly 5,200,000 in 1700, and 7,754,875 in 1801. So about the time we were fighting the war of independence, England had 7,500,000 people in it. Now one must add Wales and Scotland in, and I don’t have those numbers, but I would be surprised if the UK had more than 10 million people in it.
So basically, the US was a fifth of the population, breaking away. No wonder they really, really didn’t want to let us go.
