For 10 years, I had a garage in California specializing in Alpines exclusively. The telltale signs are the horn ring (a brand new one is currently hanging over my desk – make offer); the chrome striker plate where the removable hardtop attaches (to Bond’s right and behind him); and the right rear tail fin. Also the frame around the windscreen (windshield, for Yankees) is a dead ringer.
I think the car behind him is a Talbot but I can’t be sure.

Wolf – Did some searching and according to Ancestry Neilia Hunter was born in Auburn, New York not tony Skaneateles. Her parents ran a diner that is still there called Hunter’s Dinerant.
She graduated in 1958 from East High in Auburn. She then attended Penn Hall, a junior college in PA. Her wiki is misleading saying she attended Penn Hall, a secondary boarding school.
Sounds like she came from a working class background that was re-written to be more glamorous. Her profile at Penn Hall with various personal phrases includes “Syracuse no — Skaneateles please”. So the whitewashing probably started with her.
Why Hunter has the Finger Lakes tattooed on his back is a mystery.
One last thing…Auburn is technically in the Finger Lakes region, but it’s better known for the maximum security state prison, the Auburn Correctional Facility.

Upstate New York is always an interesting contrast and balance between “townies” who are part of the rural and small-town New England culture and the cosmopolitan imports. It’s visible in the whole Cankles thing in Chappaqua, the Ohrs and ChiComs princelings and every Vassarette in Poughkeepsie. It’s a dynamic that never really ends. Whether it’s just the exurbs of NYC or way up in the Adirondacks, there is a gradient down to “The City” that is omnipresent in that region. It even crosses state lines in New England. Even in history. SO – Hunter’s mom wanting to be “more” makes sense. Maybe even getting away to Delaware makes sense.

having a tough morning here…texting with my (liberal) children who now want to cancel our holiday celebrations because, you guessed it, covid. now our little county here in PA is probably one of the least likely places you’d run into covid–but the “positives” are increasing!!!! (that’s their hair on fire reasoning, not mine).

we replied to all their nonsense that hubby and I are NOT WORRIED…come up as planned…as long as you’re not sick, we’ll be fine. AND Thanksgiving is a month away…Christmas is 2 months away!
we were told it’s not our risk to take. HUH? they don’t want to be responsible for giving it to us. both children and their families have visited us late summer…so the same risks were acceptable back then.
(sighing louder) i can’t stand liberals and their fear mongering.
This isn’t about COVID. This is about election temper tantrums.
They know Trump has won and they don’t want to hear about it or risk hearing about it. And, they have talked and agreed not to visit you, so one could not be made to feel bad about it from the other. They triangulated against you.
Basically, they are punishing you and withholding the grandkids from you because you support PT.
Be glad. They would be miserable company to have for these holidays. I recommend turning this right around on them and spending some of their inheritance on yourself. Tell them….
“Well, since you and the kids aren’t coming we’ve decided to go to (some destination you’ve always wanted to go). It’s really a shame you can’t come with us because of COVID.”
And don’t let them come, because of COVID.
DO take the trip. DON’T let them come with you. Show them two can play their silly game, so it’s best if NO ONE plays the silly game.
traveling is not something we would do…but buying that corvette hubby had his eyes on now for a few months might be the ticket.

Ready to tackle my challenging hilly walk this morning, but wanted to comment on your post, Pat.
A couple of nights ago, DH got a call from the daughter of his older sister alerting him that sister was starting to exhibit signs of mental confusion (like seeing imaginary people in her house.)
Now, she IS elderly and such things are not unexpected. But, until COVID isolation, this was a woman who still tap-danced (!) and sang solos in community productions, was socially active in her community, Loved to cook her Italian specialities for family and friends, etc. She lives alone in a retirement community of homes with one daughter living nearby.
However, once “quarantined”, the daughter and family stopped visiting her…left her groceries in the garage and her ONLY contact with the outside was by phone. She literally went weeks without any face to face contact (doesn’t drive). Without question, the daughter thought she was “protecting” her mother but, in fact, we believe it has resulted in this mental decline.
So, this was an up close and personal result of social isolation…I’m sure multiplied countless times. Many chose a hermit-style life and are perfectly happy but social animals such as SIL feel it keenly. I have a cousin with very serious lung problems and is on oxygen 24/7…she hasn’t been out since February…not even for doctor appointments. A couple of her adult daughters do cook and visit about once a week. I ask myself…is this living or existing?
It’s too bad when children think they can make the decisions for their parents (if not incapable…different issue). It’s close to being demeaning no matter the good intentions.

Yesterday we spent the late afternoon doing a child’s birthday party. Dad was a pharmacist and another guest was a pediatrician. NO ONE WORE MASKS! On top of that they were Copt Egyptians. 😁
It was a very fun party and we stayed an extra hour.
This was the third party this weekend and NO MASKS to be seen. People are SO OVER the CCP Covid Crap.

It’s been like Summer here, with dry warm weather…temps in the 70’s and 80’s.
We needed some rain.
So the good news is — we’re getting some much needed moisture.
But the bad news is — we’ve gotten a sudden temperature drop down into the low 30’s, so we may be getting some ice accumulation.
Trees here are still leafed out.
We haven’t had a Fall, per se…so most of the trees are still covered in green leaves.
^^This^^ is not good, because ice accumulation on leaves will result in way more weight.
It could be devastating for our trees…and for structures that they fall on.
They’re predicting power outages.
We’re okay for now…but the forecast is for 3 days of this.

we had a mild winter last year up here–but an early ice storm left a thick sheet of ice on our driveway that never went away…the top layer would thaw and run down the driveway during the day, then refreeze in the evening and overnight.
the only thing that would navigate it at all was the tractor with chains (spikes) on the tires…sigh…not looking forward to that mess again!
I remember you telling about it…hope that doesn’t happen to y’all again this year.
It sounded miserable.
We’re lucky because it will warm up and melt off any ice and snow, usually within a few days after it happens.
Ice storms are the worst, though.
They can do more damage…over a larger area…than tornadoes.

Gail, thanks for these pics. Reminded me that in the early 90’s we had an ice storm here…”freezing rain”…never knew such a thing happened. Heard trees exploding before I saw it actually happening…Woke me up the night it happened…I went outside bc I had no idea; it sounded like a war zone. I had a difficult time determining where all the noise was coming from. New experience.
The next day I went up to a familiar Marsh, and it looked like Godzilla had trashed the entire area.
Every once in a while we are reminded of natural forces which usually spare us.
Oddly enough, our apple trees were spared, for which we were very grateful.
But the power of such events is truly humbling…we are pretty helpless in their face.
It’s SIX DEGREES here.
And it’s October. Usually we don’t get our first snow until around Halloween, but we had a very early snowstorm too, fortunately not as serious as the weatherman said or we’d have had tree limbs down and power lines busted up.
Roads are apparently a sheet of ice. Maybe a good day to take off.
Yikes, 6 degrees! That’s when my hermit self would emerge…BIG stack of firewood right out side the door, LOTS of groceries, lots of books…and my cat! (Well, maybe DH, too. 😉🥰 After all, someone has to bring in the firewood.)
BTW, walked wearing shorts this morning and worked up a sweat. So, Steve…as I walk tomorrow in my shorts I’ll think of you. Actually, I’m not sure I’ve ever been in 6 degree temperature!

After a unanimous vote by the Judiciary Committee last week, the Senate just confirmed Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Amy Coney Barrett to become the 115th Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court.
“Having confirmed her to the Circuit Court in 2017 with bipartisan support, the Senate has already undertaken a thorough and rigorous review of her record,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said after President Trump made the nomination last month.
Throughout Justice Barrett’s career, she has faithfully upheld the U.S. Constitution as written. The American Bar Association gave Barrett its highest rating, and she has an impressive track record across the legal profession—as a judge, professor, and litigator.
Most important, she will bring a valuable new perspective to our nation’s High Court:
Justice Barrett is the first mother of school-aged children to become a Supreme Court Justice. She is also only the fifth woman ever to serve.
As the mother of a child with special needs, she understands the issues and concerns confronting our nation’s most vulnerable people.
Justice Barrett is the only current justice to have a law degree from a school other than Harvard or Yale. She graduated at the top of her class from Notre Dame Law School in Indiana.
