Recently as I was praying on the way to falling asleep I was struck with how many places in the Bible are pertinent to our times (& frankly to all times). A number of passages provide encouragement for us during difficult days & reveal how God has interceded on behalf of people through the ages. Perhaps you too might be encouraged in bringing to mind God’s deliverance in days past & reminded of ways we can pray scripturally during these dark days.
I didn’t realize that the above scripture is from where God appeared to Solomon at the dedication of the Temple. It’s a fascinating read that you can find here: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=II+Chronicles+7&version=NIV
Here is a pertinent part of the passage in II Chronicles 7: 13-16
13 “When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, 14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 15 Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. 16 I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.
God has relented from destruction in the past, including against people who did not know Him. The book of Jonah reveals God as merciful to people he was going to destroy because they listened to the messenger He had sent & repented & called on Him. In the book of Hosea God reveals Himself through Hosea’s life, who was commanded to marry a prostitute & to redeem her from the slave auction when she’d left her husband to return to her whoring ways. Before destroying Sodom & Gomorrah Abraham bargained with God & He was willing to save those wicked cities if just 10 righteous people could have been found in them.
In the New Testament we see numerous examples of God’s mercy poured out through His Son Jesus. In the woman caught in adultery, possibly Mary Magdalene, He rescued her from stoning in act of astonishing justice & mercy!
John 8: 1-11, from here: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%208&version=NIV
1 but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
2 At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. 3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
11 “No one, sir,” she said.
“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
In the tale of the paralytic man we see someone who is healed because of the faith of a few close friends (Matthew 9:1-8; Mark 2: 1-12; Luke 5: 17-26; & John 5: 1-15, this is possibly a story of a different paralytic). Likewise in the healing of the servant of the Centurion (Matthew 8: 5-13) we see God’s healing power poured forth even from afar.
In the resurrection of the dead we see multiple examples: the valley of the dry bones (Ezekiel 37: 1-14), the son of the Shunammite woman (II Kings 4: 8-37), the Synagogue Leader’s daughter who’d died (Matthew 9: 18-26), Dorcas (Acts 9: 32-43), & of course Lazarus (John 11). There were also many dead who arose upon Jesus’ resurrection (Matthew 27: 51-53)!
Here is a music video created using Carmen’s song “Lazarus Come Forth” that artistically retells the scriptural tale of Lazarus’ resurrection of the dead. (I used to attend church with Carmen back in my Tulsa days so this song really takes me back.)
There is nothing so dead that God cannot breathe life into it!
There are scriptural representations of God’s deliverance from seeming impossible odds:
- rescuing Moses from the decreed death of infant boys (Exodus 2: 1-10)
- the parting of the Red Sea to allow the Israeli’s to escape Egypt (Exodus 14 & 15: 1-21)
- David & Goliath (I Samuel 17)
- Samson’s death & the destruction of the Philistines (Judges 16: 23-32)
- the 4 lepers in the siege of Samaria (found in II Kings 6 & 7)
- Daniel in the Lion’s Den (Daniel 6)
- the fiery furnace (Daniel 3: 1-30)
- Elijah & his servant, who was likely Gehazi, (II Kings 6: 8-23) see the hosts of heaven.
Exodus 14: 13-14
13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
God opened the servant’s eyes to see that “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
II Kings 6: 15-17
15 When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked.
16 “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
17 And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, fleshly, or human. We are strong (only) in the Lord & in the power of his might. Part of our power lies in praise & worship as we call on God to set us free!
This song recounts a number of places in scripture where worshipping God resulted in his people being set free. This is classic Petra with Greg X. Volz back in the lead vocalist slot singing “Let Everything That Hath Breath Praise the Lord”. I used to run with this song in my head, or on my walkman, way back in the day 😉
II Corinthians 10: 3-5
3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
Here you can find verse 4 above in all English translations: https://www.biblegateway.com/verse/en/2%20Corinthians%2010:4
Ephesians 6: 10-18, The Armor of God
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
I believe that Q Drops reference the Armor of God numerous times! These are those days that try men’s souls & we need to be armored in the Lord to withstand the evil onslaught that is incoming.
The Book of Daniel chapters 10-12 has some fascinating stuff. A passage in Daniel 10 is compelling in that it indicates that a heavenly messenger, an angel presumably, was prevented from coming for 3 weeks & it wasn’t until Michael (the archangel?) “one of the chief princes” came to assist him that he was able to break through…This may, in part, be due to the prayers of the saints, like how Frank Peretti portrayed in his breakthrough works “This Present Darkness” & “Piercing the Darkness”.
Daniel 10: 12-14
12 Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them. 13 But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia. 14 Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the future, for the vision concerns a time yet to come.”
There are many places in scripture where we see evil doers come to a justified end. Here are a few:
- Proverbs 26:27 Whoever digs a pit will fall into it; if someone rolls a stone, it will roll back on them.
- Psalm 109 the majority of this Psalm is prayers for God to visit destruction on the psalmist’s enemy & ends with God’s blessing & favor on the one whom He loves.
- Proverbs 17:7 Eloquent lips are unsuited to a godless fool— how much worse lying lips to a ruler!
- Ezekiel 13:8 “‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because of your false words and lying visions, I am against you, declares the Sovereign Lord.
We also see God restoring that which was ruined, lost, or discarded:
- The 2nd Chapter of Joel especially verses 12-14
12 “Even now,” declares the Lord,
“return to me with all your heart,
with fasting and weeping and mourning.”
13 Rend your heart
and not your garments.
Return to the Lord your God,
for he is gracious and compassionate,
slow to anger and abounding in love,
and he relents from sending calamity.
14 Who knows? He may turn and relent
and leave behind a blessing—
grain offerings and drink offerings
for the Lord your God.
- Ezekiel 36:35 They will say, “This land that was laid waste has become like the garden of Eden; the cities that were lying in ruins, desolate and destroyed, are now fortified and inhabited.”
- Isaiah 1: 21-28 could have been written just for these times!
21 See how the faithful city
has become a prostitute!
She once was full of justice;
righteousness used to dwell in her—
but now murderers!
22 Your silver has become dross,
your choice wine is diluted with water.
23 Your rulers are rebels,
partners with thieves;
they all love bribes
and chase after gifts.
They do not defend the cause of the fatherless;
the widow’s case does not come before them.
24 Therefore the Lord, the Lord Almighty,
the Mighty One of Israel, declares:
“Ah! I will vent my wrath on my foes
and avenge myself on my enemies.
25 I will turn my hand against you;[b]
I will thoroughly purge away your dross
and remove all your impurities.
26 I will restore your leaders as in days of old,
your rulers as at the beginning.
Afterward you will be called
the City of Righteousness,
the Faithful City.”
27 Zion will be delivered with justice,
her penitent ones with righteousness.
28 But rebels and sinners will both be broken,
and those who forsake the Lord will perish.

A prayer for today. BE READY! #SPIRITUALWARFARE #StandFirm #Ephesians6
As a final thought I believe that good & godly music can assist us in breaking through darkness & give us a boost so that we can rise up & do warfare in the Kingdom of God. Obviously music is an extremely personal choice & greatly impacted by our cultural & spiritual experiences. For me personally I often keep ClassicChristian247.com playing in the background, especially when digging into to topics connected to darkness. It helps lift my spirit & focus on the Lord.
Other favorite musical supports around our home include War in the Heavenlies & The Road to Jerusalem & too many others to name. There are links to both of these entire albums (I believe) & one favorite song from each mentioned here just below.
Well may the Lord continue to guide & direct our Precious President as he continues to do so much to beat back the forces of darkness that seek to destroy him, our land, & our very world. May God protect all the Patriots going to DC or assembling at state capitols or locally. May He grant us favor & deliver us & our land from those seeking dominion & destruction. May the Lord’s will & purposes be done in these challenging days. May He show Himself strong to set us free once again. May God be glorified & may this land be renewed & restored to it’s roots of faith. In Jesus Matchless Name!
God Bless everyone!
God Won!
Amen!!! Always & forever. Thank the Lord Literally for the Blood of Jesus that purchased us back from death & destruction. Hallelujah!
Wonderful, encouraging read! Thank you!
You’re welcome…Thank you so much for that edification, Carl! My feet of clay rejoice in your graciousness 🙂
Thanks Valerie for your encouragement.
YW Sylvia, God Bless YOU & all your adventures! have shovel will travel 😉
🤗🤗🤗❤❤😘
Wow! I did not see this post coming — you must have been inspired to put it together so quickly.
It is beautiful and heartening. Thank you.
Thanks, CT…if you look at some of the tweet dates I think it was started sometime in November & my procrastination & forgetfulness kept stretching it out. Tonight I prayed for God to help me get it done & tried to set aside perfectionistic tendencies & let is out into the ether “as is”. I really wanted it out before Wednesday!
Thank you for your encouraging words–they mean so much!
Having a bunch of worthwhile stuff in a bucket =/= having a post ready to publish. I have strong beliefs I’ve had for 40 years contribute to something I’ve put online. You prayed and we were rewarded. Thank you.
Thanks CT, is your online contribution something to share here? I greatly enjoy your unique perspective as shared in comments here at the Q Tree! I even read some of your stuff to hubby who knows how to do what has to be done in home & car repair & also is a bit of an outdoor adventurer 🙂 & my personal hero!!!
I may have accidentally implied that I had a particular testimony to share — each comment I make may have parts reacting to today and parts coming from things I learned in childhood — it is the nature of speaking. We are who we are, however we have come to this moment. I regret that I have not yet experienced such an epiphany that brings everything together.
But there’s always tomorrow, isn’t there?
I just thought you had used 40 years of wisdom to put something out there online & was curious about what you might share. Epiphanies, if they are ever incoming around here, usually get forgotten before they are passed along. My whole family has ADHD or middle-aged brain syndrome (made that one up but seems applicable).
Around here tomorrow means trying to remember what we forgot to finish yesterday! 😉 & Bless that Broken Road!!!
I hear you. I consider myself to be wandering spiritually in the desert.
Agreed. I’ve been in one form of a spiritual desert or another for nearly 3 decades now, especially since the brutality of special needs came violently on the scene in our family!
Knowing Truth & Being set free by Truth are not the same thing. I’m very thankful for even small graces, when I’m not too oblivious to even notice them!
I think C. S. Lewis’ Screwtape Letters address this condition creatively…
Something about not letting the Perfect be the enemy of the Good.
yes a helpful thought, though not scriptural. Sometimes those deadlines force us to “completion” & a place of well that’s as good as it’s gonna get it with what time & energy were available. Similar to a forgiveness perspective for myself & significant others whose wounds can still smart–“they did the best they could with what they had to work with at the time”. His grace Is sufficient 🙂
Thank you so much, Valerie, for this encouraging post. It came online just as I finished a personal session of reading/praying/contemplation of the spiritual battle! Wow, talk about God’s timing! We have been on the front lines of the battle for His kingdom in many places for 3+ decades and I must admit to being something of a “wounded warrior”, old and weary. He knew I needed this encouragement!
I want to share a personal encounter to underscore the fact that this is not “only” a battle right now for our country, but for the world, as has been mentioned by others. There is a young woman in our church who recently had to flee her country because of her faith. The Sunday after Nov. 3, she came up to me and said with great sadness, how upsetting it was that Trump lost the election. I told her to pray, that it was not over yet, and tried to explain in simple words, what was happening. Her face immediately brightened and she said, “That would be so good! Biden is bad for my country but Trump gave us hope.” That is the basis for my prayers right now in this election chaos: The President’s work is not yet completed. Not in the U.S. and not in the rest of the world.
Grammy, what a blessing that you are able to encourage that young immigrant with truth & hope. I agree that we are still in that tug of war between light & dark. We believers know that in the end Light Always Wins & we get to be with Him in Paradise. It would be nice to have that same level of assurance in this world.
I totally get that wounded warrior scenario, for I am one too & often my “walk” resembles more of a limp or a crawl. Perhaps you might find encouragement here too, from my main blog:

Amen!!! God isn’t finished with POTUS, with USA, with Israel, or with Any of Us!
God bless & keep, strengthen & sustain, refresh & renew & restore you, in Jesus’ Name!
& thank you for your encouraging words & testimony of ministry to & through you 🙂
Amen. And again, thank you, Valerie. Am so glad to know you and all the other Q-Treepers! 😊
Glad to have you in the wolf pack, where we run wild & free & True North! Check out my 1st ever Q Tree post, on my mom’s 80th birthday, in fact, for an elaboration on that concept. It’s not easy to find at the new Q Tree but I looked it up at our old home here:
https://wqth.wordpress.com/2020/05/02/luna-wolf-pack/
How many grandkids, assuming Grammy is for Grandma? We have 4 grown kids, one married, 2 engaged, & one dating across a closed border virtually 🙂
Yes, Grammy is for Grandma, which was already taken. We have 6 so far, 5 grown kids, 3 married, and our oldest son’s widow. The SIL/DIL make for quite an assortment of nationalities, spread over 2 continents. So lots of virtual here, too, especially since Corona.
I’m so sorry you lost your son. Did he leave kids as well as a widow behind?
We’re getting an international flavor for our clan now too. Our son’s mother-in-law spent part of her formative years on an Indian Reservation in Arizona w/ a step-father, I believe. That family has many non-blood relatives, family of the heart & all.
Our engaged son has special needs, as does his fiancée, so that’s quite a learning curve, a different world than “regular” people in many ways. Her mom grew up in Mexico & the family is bi-lingual & multi-cultural, though all Christian thankfully.
Our dating son’s girlfriend’s family have landed in Canada but are from South America with a mixed race/cultural background. There are several languages spoken…
Our engaged daughter’s fiancé has a somewhat multi-ethnic background & cross border upbringing between Canada & the US.
We’re still on the learning curve with all that. Our daughter’s desire to start a family soon after their wedding, planned for this Summer, is pushing our daughter-in-law to try to get pregnant first. So not exactly a race to the grandkids but maybe a bit of an adventure.
Sorry the plannedemic/scamdemic has kept you apart from loved ones 🙁
I had a strong intuition in 2015 that God’s hand was on Donald Trump. At that time I barely knew who he was (I don’t watch tv): just some billionaire NY developer/celebrity. The feeling from 2015 persists.
What an encouraging & uplifting insight that was likely given to you by the Lord. You Were & Are Blessed!
Inspiring and fortifying! Thank You Valerie 🤗 😊
Thanks Holley, God’s mysteries are working in & through us even now as we lift up POTUS & our nation. Restoration & Renewal may yet be incoming! God Bless!!!
Thanks VC, great post, great timing. God is always there and I (we) need that reminder occasionally. Very easy to get caught up in the day to day doom and gloom at this time in history. God’s word will always bring everything back into perspective for me.
God Bless.
YW Brave & Free. God’s Word is timeless truth & a sure foundation when all about is sinking sand. God Bless you too!
Thank you Valerie. Your words have brought encouragement to me this morning. I had need to hear the words that the battle truly is the Lord’s! We need have no fear for the our Father fight for us. Thank you so much
You’re welcome, Suzy. So glad that the Lord is ministering to you, & to us all, directly with His Love Language. He alone provides that Peace that Passes Understanding! Blessings
Saw this on the open thread & thought it would fit here too!
There is a video of a younger Trump (Populist Press) where he says that his best times were when he was in an impossible situation because “I never give up”. I think in a sense Abraham can be thought of as an ‘anti Trump’ because Abraham gave up; he should have continued haggling with God down to the level of “If I can find just ONE PERSON in Sodom or Gomorrah who had JUST ONE charitable thought in his LIFE, will you spare these cities?” I believe God would have accepted these terms.
Agreed. Jesus gives us the unjust judge parable to remind us to keep knocking & keep seeking & keep asking. But the prayer in Gethsemane is a great counter perspective…let this cup pass from me…nevertheless not my will but Yours be done!
I don’t believe that God gives us something He ordinarily wouldn’t give us because we are persistent. God knows exactly how that and every other situation will occur, because He plans them. By our persistence, God is teaching us, for example, to abide in Him and wait for Him. It only seems to us that God is changing His mind, while actually the purpose of the event was to teach and change us.
I like this perspective. There is also an OT example of an Israeli king who was dying but God chose to spare “I’ve heard your cry & seen your tears so I will heal you”. So in this king’s now extended life he eventually fell away from the Lord & fathered a child who became an extremely wicked king.
It’s like the Opposite of the King Josiah story you shared recently. KJ was taken when young to be spared God’s judgement. That other king, maybe Hezekiah (it’s off the top of my head so not sure) has his life extended by God “changing his mind” but in so doing the course of history is changed as to who would be on the throne after the king’s death.
We’re practically straying into the predestination vs “free will” territory which remains an ongoing area of mystery, as are so many things in the Lord.
At this point I’m trying to get to that “though He slay me, yet will I trust Him” place inside. With all the talk about the End Times being upon us though I pray for reprieve & revival & restoration in our land & in the world it’s possible that things are moving toward that dark & terrible day of the Lord.
If He sees fit to say “no” to the many prayers for deliverance then I must accept that He has other purposes in mind. The Great Awakening of so many could also be so that so many more will be caught up into the Kingdom of God even as the kingdoms of this world come crashing down…
I think your supposition about Abraham is revealed as likely based on that encounter Moses had with God. God was angry with the Israelites who were constantly complaining & rebelling against Him (& maybe this was after the golden calf situation), so He decided to wipe them out & start out all over again with Moses. His promises to Abraham would have still held but Israel would have been no more.
I don’t recall the exact conversation (perhaps Slightly like George Washington passing on the opportunity to be a King!) but ultimately Moses pleads with God on Israel’s behalf so the Lord relents! Even in the Old Testament there are examples of God’s mercy & compassion outweighing His judgement/justice. Like Jesus & the adulterous woman, the Lord breaks no law but allows mercy to prevail. Truly His mercies are new every morning!
this next one isn’t scripture but seems aligned with scriptural truth

Yes, God is just waiting for us to ask. If we feel we are owed a penny, we should ask for an Everest of gold!
I’m reminding the Lord of his promises to a thousand generations. Not that we are worthy but that He would honor the faithfulness of our forebears…oh & in His mercy & grace spare our land for the sake of the remnant of the faithful who are only “righteous” because we are under His Blood!
I suggested on the open thread that we all pray together at one time for all going or already in DC…smiley directed me here…THIS IS PERFECT VALERIE!!!
I missed it this morning when i opened the site.

What a lovely suggestion! I keep seeing people on twitter calling for joining in prayer at a specific time, well past by the time I’m reading it. But just seeing/reading & praying along with some of those prayers shared, like the tweets in this post, so lifts my spirits.
God is on the move in & through His Body & we are multiplying prayer strength “exponentially” if the “one can chase a thousand & two can chase ten thousand” scriptural exhortation is born out…& God’s Word Never returns void!
Thank you for your inspired thoughts & determination to see it happen. Oh & I Love your self-portrait!!!
your thread accomplished the goal Valerie!!
sorry i didn’t see it first thing this morning…but I prayed with all your wonderful inspirations and prayers as I read them!!
That’s what I do too, Pat. I have to pray as I see such things & then not carry a burden of “guilt” when I see such things & mean to pray & then forget all about it.
I kept dropping a tweet on this post in development when encountering the ones that really impacted me. There are so many people in the great cloud of witnesses & the family of God who are rising up in prayer!!!
you did an awesome job!!
Thanks…blush emoji 🙂
Pence may not preside over Congress during the electoral count! Per War Room.
Grassley will do it if Pence is not on floor or has to leave.
Stuff going on!
President just tweeted that the VP has the power to reject fraudulent electors.
I highly recommend Bannon’s show. He has an inside line and if you listen long enough you can see the plan in action.
What’s the cliff notes version?
That is the cliff notes version! 😁
LOL!
Wow…I’ve been sleeping through all the excitement!
Thank you! I am taking courage from this, and all the supportive comments.
YW I’m so thankful that God is using this post to bless others!!! His ways are so much higher than ours! Hope you & the Patriots are having a Wild & Wonderful time!
Thank you for taking the time to share your heart here. The leader of the Wolf Pack continues to run wild, free, & always True North! God Bless YOU Wolf 🙂
God was with me today! A homeless guy was looking for a handout – I go with my gut on giving. Didn’t think money was a good idea. We got talking, and as I left, I offered him my sports drink, which I need medically for fluids and electrolytes despite restroom issues. He gladly took it. I had plenty of energy, and because no fluids I was able to hear General Flynn, very late in the program! No desire to leave. But no medical problems, either. My “fishes and loaves” moment! God will provide ALL of us what we need!!!
Praise the Lord! He is at work in the small & big things. A double blessing for you & the guy you shared with.
What do we need to say for you to take caution?
“Listen to Flynn” will do!
Flynn said things I needed to hear which relate to this. More on that in a bit.
And we can all relisten!
General Flynn at Freedom Plaza. Inspiring!

Valerie, I just read this after going through a very long and difficult day with no answers in sight. I just want you to know what a blessing your post was to read and was exactly what I needed. Thank you so much and God bless you!
Oh Linda I’m sorry that you are facing such challenges without (as yet known) resolution. Thank you for letting me/us know that God was ministering to you through this post–that blesses me so much 🙂
May the Lord continue to strengthen & sustain you & lift your heart & spirit giving you His peace & joy in the midst of storms…in Jesus’ Love!
