The Book is That Hideous Strength and it is the third (but a stand-alone) book in his Space Trilogy. To be honest, I have read the first two books several times, but That Hideous Strength I have read countless times.
In short, an insidious organization, the N.I.C.E. (National Institute of Co-ordinated Experiments) has set up shop in a small English town rumored to be the resting place of the Arthurian character, Merlin. The N.I.C.E. sets up a fusion of state and science and academia. In short, fascism.
Their plans for mankind are such that you and I can actually see them taking shape in 2021 with different characters, institutions, and nations. Their methods are exactly what we see happening today. For instance:

MOONSHINE
I think it’s time for a libation, and moonshine it is! Now, moonshine has a storied history in our nation. While it is mostly known through Prohibition, moonshine was often made in colonial times, too. And even President Washington had the Whiskey Rebellion because citizens were not happy having to pay an excise tax on whiskey, which incidentally, President Jefferson repealed in 1802.

A BIT MORE ON LEWIS
That quote at the top of the opener is also quoted on the title page of That Hideous Strength.
Here is more of that stanza:
“That when the sun is at the hicht,
At noon, when it doth shine maist bricht,
The shadow of that hideous strength
Sax mile and mair it is of length:
Thus may ye judge into your thoucht,
Gif Babylon be heich or nocht.”
The spelling is of course not modern English, and also differs from the version that Lewis quotes, but one can get an idea of the devilish strength of the Tower of Babel. Lewis described his story thus:
“This is a ‘tall story’ about devilry, though it has behind it a serious “point” which I have tried to make in my “Abolition of Man.” In the story, the outer rim of that devilry, had to be shown touching the life of some ordinary and respectable profession.”
He chose academia because it was what he knew. I take something from that. Academia, the lifeblood of the intellectual life of a nation, once corrupted can spawn evil of the magnitude of a Tower of Babel. When politicians and business are added into the equation, the world is then bending under the weight of the kind of evil we only think of in fairy stories.
Well, our fairy story is real. And Lewis knew that fairy stories are often more true than not.
Take, for instance, the design of the European Union’s Parliament building. Often called the Louise Weiss Building (there’s a plaque on the building dedicated to this feminist who worked for the union of Europe) it is remarkably similar to a painting of the tower by Pieter Brueghel the Elder in 1563:

When you look at the poster (which apparently was a promotional poster for the EU), it is interesting to note the way the people are drawn. Very dehumanizing.
Also, here’s a little look at the inside of the parliament building. Very reminiscent of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, eh?
C. S. Lewis knew well the old evil that has bedeviled man since the beginning. It does not change. It is ever the same, though it wears “updated” garments as the centuries pass. You should read about the moment when one character experiences his own damnation in THS. It’s one of the most chilling literary passages I’ve ever read.
We may be in a monumental struggle, but Christendom fights best when on the ropes. We finally drop to our knees and call on the Lord, who fights for us (Ex. 14:14). I can’t tell you how grateful I am for all of you here who drop prayers (Duchess for sure!), speak their faith, and help each other when we’re down.

Ultimately, the government’s biggest problem with wine, beer, and spirits is that they are too darned easy.
Beer is mankind’s oldest known beverage (something prepared to be drunk). There is a “Hymn to Ninkasi [the Assyrian goddess of brewing]” found on cuneiform tablets that actually provides a beer recipe. The copy we have was written down about 1800 BC — though evidence suggests that it passed in oral form a thousand years prior to that. If you could do it then with equipment and supplies available to you at the time, how difficult is it to make today?
Wine is probably the second oldest beverage. Part of the French terroir was the native yeast strains floating around in the vicinity.
Even distilling is hardly rocket surgery.
And, yet, government perpetually wants to regulate and tax the products of these processes, when the processes should be declared part of the heritage of mankind and available to all for personal use or sharing with friends.

I would guess grape juice, a.k.a. fruit of the vine.
The thing about wine is that it’s best prepared when you make a barrel and spoon a measure from an old barrel into the new. With beer, you’re always boiling the wort and starting fresh, so your sanitation doesn’t have to be as good.
Certainly, wild yeast could ferment a vat of grape juice into wine…..or it could just spoil. Beer was the first to be reliable.
Juices, water, and milk are not “beverages”, because they are not prepared — merely extracted.

Vaccination is very likely to be a causally disconnected but ideologically relevant indicator of political party, just like attitudes toward:
Saint Fauci
Trans women
Social distancing
Microaggressions
Concealed Carry
Etc.
We all know this stereotypical stuff, and much of it ends up being “two bullseyes” or “two bell curves” separated in space, when you compare political party.
We also have the idea of a cheating gradient, that cheating serves Democrat interests, and tight elections serves Republican interests, and when there are sketchy elections, it is ALWAYS in a Democrat interest.
If you have a PROBLEM in your study of such stereotypes, it will show up as an asymmetry.

What happened here is that they grouped STATES and also the populations of those states and centered them on their average vaccination levels. Those vaccination levels are REAL PROOF of people’s attitudes toward vaccination – they are WALK, NOT TALK. They are a final decider, like REAL VOTES.
But they also show the stereotypical attitudes of the people on VOTING.

This ruling by SCOTUS bodes well for future rulings should HR1, or any like it, pass and for the DOJ’s action against GA’s new election integrity laws:

Justice Alito noted that fraud does not have to be shown before a State can act to take legitimate measures to prevent fraud. He also indicated that “disparate impact” must be shown to be significant before overturning a State’s voting laws.

When it comes to the Supreme Court, the weighing of justice doesn’t seem to have the same meaning we once thought it had. It seems more like a “one for you” and “one for you” sort of thing.
Whatever the reason, this is a good ruling and a victory for election integrity and I will take it! I am delighted with this ruling … and yet am still very disappointed with other rulings. But at the moment, I am celebrating this win and what it means for election integrity and the current DOJ lawsuit against GA.

I just found an ancestor I have looked for for YEARS.
The way I discovered it was a match to a family in England. The kicker was that the family was mixed-race, because way back in the late 1700s, a Native American child was shipped to Jamaica as a slave for the cane-fields, and then one of their children was shipped to England to be a “toy” for an aristocratic family. Fortunately for him, when he grew up they had become attached to him, baptized him into the family, and shipped him off to a village to live. He married and became a minister. But he was a very lucky one.
Our history is full of stories like these. They are sad and painful, but we have to learn from the past and move on.

Apparently it was the Johnson & Johnson “vaccine” that Mr. Felix took that triggered a bad case of ADE with his already-existing RA — the result was that the RA overwhelmed his body.
The other issue is what appears to have been a bad decision by his MD to discontinue Mr. Felix’s RA meds both before and after a surgery.
So it looks like a “perfect storm” situation that destroyed him from within, and quickly.
What is unclear is why Mr. Felix, given his medical history of RA, would even consider taking the J&J injection.

Democratic critics of Arizona’s laws hoped the Court would say voting rules that disproportionately affect minority groups and which are grounded in discriminatory history are unlawful. For example, many Native Americans in Arizona live on remote tribal lands without regular mail service, so the ban on ballot harvesting affects them more acutely than white voters.
“Throughout Indian Country, services such as election offices, post offices, and DLS can be unreasonably difficult to reach,” lawyers for the National Congress of American Indians told the justices in legal papers. “Native Americans regularly have to travel hours to reach basic government services.”
Republicans counter that sound election procedures can affect racial groups differently for all kinds of benign reasons. They also emphasize that the precinct rule and the ballot harvesting ban are common to states all over the country.
Writing for the Court, Alito said the key requirement of Section Two is that the political process be “equally open” to minority and non-minority voters. Several factors bear on whether the process is “equally open,” the Court said.
One is the degree to which an election procedure makes voting more difficult. A contested procedure must block or seriously hinder would-be voters. “Mere inconvenience” is not enough, Alito wrote. And it’s relevant, the Court added, if a contested rule has a long pedigree or is in widespread use.
Applying those factors to the Arizona laws, the Court said both provisions should survive under Section Two. The justices elsewhere said that the states have a strong interest in heading-off voter fraud which can justify many election rules.
“It should go without saying that a state may take action to prevent election fraud without waiting for it to occur and be detected within its own borders,” Alito wrote. “Section Two’s command that the political processes remain equally open surely does not demand that a state’s political system sustain some level of damage before the legislature can take corrective action.”

The media likely has blood on their hands all because they seem afraid of ideas contrary to those of our ruling elite. Instead they prey upon the fears of the general public in order to keep us in line. American journalist H. L. Mencken described the press in our country very well when he said that its defining features were “its incurable fear of ideas, its constant effort to evade the discussion of fundamentals by translating all issues into a few elemental fears, its incessant reduction of all reflection to mere emotion.”
Mencken continues with his tirade against the American press:
“It is, in the true sense, never well-informed. It is seldom intelligent, save in the arts of the mob-master. It is never courageously honest. Held harshly to a rigid correctness of opinion by the plutocracy that controls it with less and less attempt at disguise, and menaced on all sides by censorships that it dare not flout, it sinks rapidly into formalism and feebleness. … For it is upon the emotions of the mob, of course, that the whole comedy is played.”
The motive of the press, Mencken writes, is to keep the general public in line for the purposes of the ruling elites. And because the press knows that the public craves safety above all else, they use fear to accomplish their mission.
Clearly the methods of the press haven’t changed since Mencken’s day, especially given Hecker’s concluding thought at the end of her interview with Varon. She notes that the emergency authorization of the vaccine couldn’t have happened if there was a drug that effectively treated COVID-19. “Could that have been part of the motivation for the strange censorship of certain COVID-19 treatments that we’ve witnessed over the past year at news and social media corporations?” she asks.
It’s a worthwhile question to ask, and something we should keep in mind as we process the diet the media feed us. Our best interests are not always theirs. The public that only craves safety, never asks questions, and does as it’s told will play right into the hands of the media and the elites they serve, eventually even threatening the same safety that the public so desires.”

Personality like a human… loved corn on the cob, picking apples off the tree (low-hanging branches, natch) and singing to “I’ve Grown Accustomed To Your Face”, and “On The Street Where You Live”. No other songs than just those two, and I played many, MANY shows in High School and college. Maybe he had a lady-friend on our street… but he was really funny, and not yappy at all.
LOL. Our 2nd one was a vegetarian, she ate the vegies in my dad’s 16X20 garden and all the pecans that fell from the tree. All those pecans, Had to put her on diet food when she was a baby. 😁
There was one time that Ludwig picked the reachable (to him) part of the apple tree clean. So, he thought he’d pick something bright yellow on the neighboring tree, that looked pretty and tasty…
A little while later he ran up to me, quite sad, with his little face all puckered up and in need of something to counter the lemon that he’d just picked 🙂

My first Westie dog, Scotty, loved corn on the cob too. I remember when we were visiting my parents once. Mom was shucking ears of fresh corn on the back deck. Scotty ran up and grabbed one right out of her hand. We all laughed at his antics. That was also when we learned that dogs cannot digest corn. LOL
Ludwig didn’t seem to have any problems, but then he didn’t eat the cob, which I’ve read is a good thing, because that can cause intestinal blockage, etc. Also, some dogs are allergic to corn (he wasn’t – he was just allergic to “walkies” on very cold days 🙂 )…..

I’d go off to Scout camp for two weeks, and he’d be there at my bedroom door, waiting for me…
He’d run in the back yard, and I’d (gently) pat him on the behind, and he’d spin out on the grass. He loved that. Had no idea at the time that that was a risk for his back. But he seemed to be OK, in spite of that, and would come running back for more…
Would be fun to have one like him now, but our house isn’t “dog-ready”, and our stairs (open risers) are anything but dog-friendly (hence the requirement that the dog can fly 🙂 )…

My mother got a teeny long hair black n tan that looked like a little dust mop when she ran.
Speaking of dust mops, I keep hoping to find a neat-freak dog that can fly 🙂 Our house is post-and-beam construction, and the living room cross-beams are really hard to get to, let alone the rafter beams (gosh, it all seemed so simple when we built it…)….
A flying dog would be ideal for that, and since we have open stair treads, no problems if he fell through once in a while 😆

IMO they need to release some raw data. Add some caveats if they need to. If they wait longer people are going to start to forget it even happened and by the time they do release anything it will be.. “oh that… ho hum”. Besides it would help put pressure on outstanding subpoenas for the tech elements still being withheld. They had a very transparent process so far, no reason to spoil it now. Yes, democrats get to respond but why make this part a closed door process? People are too involved in this audit to be shut out now. Issue an interim report and hash this out in public. To do less is to invite mistrust and complacency.
She is doing a great job and worthy of following on social media and her website to check for her occassional updates, videos etc. So many AZ Republicans doing so much good work for AZ and the Entire Nation – grateful for their willingness to take the heat!. +
What always impresses me is how little State Senators and State Represenatives are paid. AZ Republicans willing to serve as state senators and repesentatives campaign, work countless hours during session and many hours when not in session to serve their districts, attend and lead summer hearings, prepare legislation, etc. – all for $24K plus some travel expenses when in session.

I actually think they ought to be paid the state average income as $24K is so low most of us could not afford to serve even if we could fund raise. It takes someone with independent wealth or someone who owns their own business as most can not take that kind of time off of a job and hard to find a job for 1/2 a year. + even during the 1/2 of the year they aren’t officially in sessioen they are often in meetings, hearings and serving their districts
Most of us can not afford to work for $24K a year. Makes it so only the wealthy or retired can serve.
Anyway, she and so many of our elected Republican politicians are doing a great job at much personal sacrifice. Too bad the RINOs are the ones that get the news coverage

Making a difference to the lives of people is a full-time job. That’s why Managers of Wastewater plants are salaried.
Changing the laws under which a nation is run should not be a full-time job. After all, most states started out with the 10 given on the mountain, and that’s probably 80% of what you need right there. As the Republic has aged and gotten more mature, all the good laws should already have been passed. Unfortunately, as more and more laws are passed after the good ones, we become encumbered by a parasitic legislature, that thrives on do-gooderism to make themselves seem important.
The excuse being a more complicated society has more things to make rules about.

Congress should have its hands full passing a damn budget and overseeing the operation of government, but… budget? What dat?
As for the 10 given on the mountain, only that last four make any damn sense to me as actual laws. One other is good advice and at least four of the rest are religious directives that would violate the first amendment if passed into law.
Speaking from a blue area with representatives who receive much bigger paychecks than $24K/yr, I can assure you that the money used to pay their higher salaries comes directly out of my taxes. Red states have low taxes for a reason, and I doubt “we need to increase the taxes so the politicians can have bigger paychecks” is going to sell well in TN. And don’t feel too bad for them, because even the good patriots use their position to network and build business connections that will help support them and their families when they are no longer in politics. They’ll be just fine without the extra help courtesy of your increased tax bill.
The pay in CO is something like $6K per year.
And once the legislature adjourns April-ish, you’ll probably spend all of your “free” time meeting with constituents and lobbyists, so if you’re a damn crook that’s when you get to make up your salary to something you can live on.

It does not appear that there is a ‘mandate’ to take the vaxx in this situation. The defendant was given a choice, either take the vaxx and get 1 year probation, or refuse the vaxx and get 5 years probation.
The problem is that, according to the defendant, the judge violated the terms of the agreement.
If the defendant’s attorney has the plea agreement in writing, then the answer is to enforce the written agreement.
If the defendant’s attorney did NOT have the plea agreement in writing, then there never was any agreement, and the attorney should look for another line of work.
Unless he operates on the ‘Just Trust Us’ principle when dealing with government.
In which case, he should still look for another line of work.
Something which doesn’t require a lot of thinking or discernment.
