There is a big push for a Greater Idaho initiative, where all the rural counties would leave Oregon and be part of Idaho. They have already voted for it in a bunch of counties and it passed. If this really goes through, I’ll have to move as what would be left would be intolerable.
And, IF it goes through, likely a push for northern NV less Reno/Carson/Sparks to join Idaho.
IF it were to happen, I’d likely already be off to TX or OK.

SciAm ceased being interesting sometime around the turn of the century, plus or minus a few years, when the environment-all-the-time bias started appearing. Now sometime later, that was replaced with climate-all-the-time which is even worse. There used to be a column called the «Amateur Scientist», and even that one was like the last glowing ember of the halcyon days. When that column was dropped, the final light went out. I’ve sampled some issues later, but they’re still dark. And strangely boring.
You tuned out before they went to Social-Justice-all-the-time, which is just gag-inducing.

Used to be the promise of a brave new world, then something happened, and now that promise has turned into a threat. Innovation and nature happens elsewhere. It certainly illustrates why I never could stand living inside any city for long. I have tried and found out it’s not working. Now here, the grass might be greener on the neighbor’s side of the fence, but the grass on this side is mine. And it all needs mowing now and then. Literally feet on the ground, my feet. Not some statistical indefinite entity’s feet somewhere else. Good for them, by all means, but I have mine here, thank you very much.
Then I look at what happened statistically to the flu, down below. Statistics can be used to say anything, to support any kind of propaganda. And flashing bar-charts and bouncing pie-charts and all that just makes the propaganda good-looking.
Physical world for the win: the grass is mown, now I have to go cut some metal and drill holes or assemble and test an active receiver antenna or something else along those lines, in order to find the way back to the real world.
[This will not roll out as smoothly as I had originally planned, as I’m a bit shook….]

I may have mentioned that my father retired as the #3 Engineer for the City of Los Angeles. Further, I may have mentioned that my father built five houses from when I was in Junior High to when I graduated High School — and the profits from the sale of these houses were what put my sister and myself through college. In the course of being around so much construction during critical periods in my life, I started to develop an odd sort of double vision — where, as in the video, you look at some basic process and start to see shadows of all the processes that take care of things behind the scenes.
It’s almost like you can see through walls. You know there are wooden studs every sixteen inches. You know that electricity is generally run through studs a bit above mid-thigh. If there’s data running through the walls, you know it’s a foot away from the power. If you have plumbing, you can visualize both the plumbing supply and wastewater takeaway in the walls.
Even though you have this x-ray vision, you don’t have to use it — just like the anonymous worker in the video doesn’t have to know all the plumbing and transport utilization that gets her prepared and moved to her office in the morning.
But if you’d like to be aware of and tweak the things behind the scenes, you are completely SOL if you’re running Apple or Windows. They won’t let you see anything, and what they decide on behalf of your needs/their shareholders/governments/management whims/R&D quirks is invisible and cannot be appealed.
Only with Linux can this whole world be totally disclosed and totally open. And, yes, that makes the soundtrack a bit cacophonous and chaotic, and noisy beside….but it’s more real than pretending that Microsoft will give you everything you need and that it will automatically work right.
I agree that a certain amount of “just use it — it isn’t worse than anything else out there” is helpful, and I intend to do more of this than I would have when my victim receives his Pi400. But there is more to learn and enjoy by diving in.

Me, too. I’m sorry I didn’t post his news here, but I wasn’t thinking very clearly after I read it. I slept a bit but woke up, wide awake, worrying.
Discoverability is somewhere on the scale between useful and vital. And I’ve always been interested in the internals of things, ever since I was a kid. Like what was going on inside an alarm clock, a photo camera, or a car odometer, when the 1/10 digit moved from 9 to 0 and caused the 1s digit to move one ahead? Or the electronics inside a radio, and the rest of the story about how that works. Then how to connect and program a microprocessor, with memory and IOs, and how the 1s and 0s in software translated to High and Low voltages on the wires on the outside.
A lot of that got obfuscated and layered away with the various versions of MS-windows. As for Apple, they were even more proprietary, closed and secret, never really did much with them. And expensive. Like the workstations back in the 1980s and 1990s. I had opportunities to learn a few different varieties of Unix on them, and these made the Basic-driven home computers seem like toys in comparison.
So once Linux became available in the 1990s I didn’t hesitate to pick it up. Finally, something real, Unix-like, on the PC!
Next milestone I’d say was something called Picotux — some clever people in Germany had managed to get Linux running on a computer slightly bigger than a network jack. With a handful of GPIOs easily programmable. That was around 2006. Then the Raspberry Pi appeared in 2012, and these were capable of hosting their own development tools — text editor and compiler.
All good things. Linux is eminently discoverable. Source code is all there and can be looked at.
I was really sneaking up on Steve and Wolf, and got derailed and scrambled by worry for our brother Carl….but you pushed the button and I decided to present my argument unpolished. Now it’s there. If you want to understand the appeal of Linux, you have to know why it’s not Apple or Microsmurf.
I maintain that for the vast majority of people, this is nothing but scary.
They want a computer that works, doesn’t spy on them and is reasonably secure. You are scaring them away from that with this insistence on telling stories about how you hacked your system, giving them the impression that as a simple user, that’s what they’re going to have to be able to do.
It’s like telling someone they can’t drive a car until they’re able to rebuild the engine.
(Even that is generous–the vast majority of the general population doesn’t give a crap about the spyware. But the QTree population does.)
The stories you tell are of interest to some, and maybe you don’t give a flying good goddamn about the rest. If so that’s fine but then don’t wonder why hardly anyone uses Linux.

Yup. I know Wolf posted get an old monitor and cpu with floppy drive, pop in a floppy and I essentially good to go. I WILL do so when I latch onto the monitor, computer with floppy and floppy with software on it.
That said, the “goat ropes” posted trying to do whatever with Linux leads some to, well, me anyway…
But I will give Wolf’s recipe a run. I do believe there is merit, even gold in that way ahead. Now to find the monitor…

I should note that plenty of people here use Linux, and (presumably) would be using it no matter what I blather on about — and, it should be noted, I’m not writing these for the newspaper gossip sheets.
And maybe, someone trying to use Linux won’t panic when their street floods…..because there are ways of working out what storm drains do.
Storm drains are a lot easier to understand than ramblings about something called ORCA. I’ve used Linux for years and I have no idea what the hell that is; I suspect it’s specific to a particular distro.
Again, you’re telling someone who wants to turn on their computer and have it work, that they have to do all that shit…and that’s a turn off.
What they see is a desktop. That’s how they interface with it.
I write a system used by fairly intelligent people but we do NOT expect them to know such low level stuff. And this is something they MUST use as part of their job.
You’re expecting people to volunteer to dive a lot deeper than these people will do if you PAY them to do it.
Do you get it? Not everyone is a tinkerer like you are.
Get down into the command line weeds before they even start and they will think you are some kind of nut.
When wolf gave simple directions to create a system…THAT got peoples’ attention.
ORCA is a bit unusual, but I have mentioned it here before as a special passion of mine. It is a computer reading program that allows sight-impaired folks to compute and even websurf. I’m interested in it here w/r/t our dear Zoe and for my father.
And yet, going back and reading that story, it sounded like an indispensable part of the process of getting Linux going. It’s not, not even for whatever distro you’re using, yet you made it sound like another damn complication they would have to deal with.
(And the sheer variety of distros is itself an impediment to recruitment because it makes things seem more complicated up front…once IN it can be seen as a positive virtue, of course, but beforehand? We’re implicitly asking someone to make a choice between distros when they don’t even understand the question. Apparently the biggest distinction (other than desktop, but with everyone going to damn Gnome because its fashionable to hide controls, that’s going away) is package managers, but that’s literally meaningless to a Windows user (and likely a Mac user as well). Tet when asked whether they should do Ubuntu or something else…that’s one of the factors they’re told they have to consider.
Linux is being “marketed” by people who cannot or will not understand the mindset and context of the typical user. And from what I can see, you’re just one more example of that. And while that remains true of its devotees and would-be “saleslmen”, Linux will never be anything but niche.
The typical user thinks of his computer as an appliance and doesn’t want to have to tinker with it. And yes, “have to tinker with it” as if it’s something they don’t like doing, is the operative phrase here. They *don’t* enjoy it. You selling it to them like that is basically offering them a free (and unneeded but mandatory) root canal with their install.
Its the internet of things (IOT). The more they know, the more they can control. Hideous considering who they are.

It might be that I’m too far away, or don’t know history, or can’t see the totality of clinical information, but I can’t even begin to see what is going on.

Aside from the serious conditions Carl is dealing with, the lack of medical concern for basic needs is something I’ve experienced when caring for a relative who went to the ER several times. He went without food for over 12 hours, and I had to ask them to bring him something. No doubt there was a reason for that in the beginning with tests and all, but not later.

As I read it, he got the IV initially, but then for a long time afterward, as he was “expelling” blood / liquid, no monitoring of this or continued fluid intake was provided.
Nor did they check on him, or provide him answers, until he decided to leave (a threat, from their perspective).
I have personally witnessed the “protocol” that does not allow fluids to someone that “may” have surgery needed.
Having lost 1/3 of his blood and being denied fluids. They’d follow the rules until he was gone.
NO CARING in the health “care” system.

Yes. I’ve sounded the alarm here several times based on experience with someone hospitalized during COVID (not with COVID). They don’t communicate enough iwth the patient or the patient’s advocate or medical power of attorney. You have to be on top of things and ask a lot of questions. And sometimes you have to take drastic action, like Carl did, to get someone’s attention. I do think that appealing to institution that oversee hospitals will get their attention, but you have to be aware enough of what’s going on to be able to do that.
Hospital Advocates are supposed to be available if you ask for assistance with dealing with your care. I need to learn more about this.
Just “cases” – not human beings.
When I took my mother to the hospital, same thing happened. After many hours, I had to go and get someone to provide her food (she also hadn’t eaten for many hours prior to that).
Just like Carl, with no fluid for hours, while he was expelling fluid all during that time.
It appears that every institution only takes care of themselves first, rather than their clients / patients / charges.
The moral rot is deep.
This COVID insanity has to end. NOBODY should be isolated in a hospital without a caring visitor with access.

Everything is so compartmentalized and regimented. They follow protocols, but there don’t seem to be any regarding basic nutritional and fluid needs. Each person has their job, which leaves certain needs to someone else, and they do not get met.
In my experience, nurses are excellent at patient care when it comes to moving the person in the bed, straightening out the bedding (and changing it), and making them comfortable. Those are things that they are trained to do, and that’s good. But when it comes to thinking about what someone might need, when it’s not written on a piece of paper but somoene should know that person hasn’t eaten for hours, that falls by the wayside.
Wonder how much health insurance and malpractice lawyers have to do with that…
Ironic that when the current lot of medicos were in school way back when, “interdisciplinary studies” were the thing. Cross over between two or more silos of knowledge, etc.
Seems like that didn’t help anyone.
And it’s the same over here. So specialized and siloed that you need to get two, three, or more doctors/specialists together on the horn or (hardly possible anymore) in a meeting to get anything done.
Add to that the fact that they keep the number of doctors, nurses, specialists, and other medical personnel artificially low…

I have seen them anticipate doctor orders beforehand. They learn and know what is needed. And the doctors treat them like crap.

I was just thinking about our word for the week. We do school today bc Thursday he gets real school pictures and a short day.

The rural school district where I live does four day weeks, with longer days to make up for it.
The four days are Monday through Thursday.
So whenever there’s a “falls on a Monday” holiday (labor day, Columbus day, President’s Day, MLK day, Memorial day), they don’t get that day off, rather they shift to Tuesday through Friday. They thus get a four day weekend for the holiday, at the expense of a two day weekend the next weekend.
Utterly pointless exercise and I could never understand why they didn’t just do Tuesday through Friday in the first place, rather than jerking everyone’s schedules around whenever there was a holiday.
Because then they wouldn’t get a four day weekend for the holidays.

Timing the zinc and quercetin is interesting; my quercetin comes with vitamin C so I take zinc in the morning and quercetin (plus more vitamin C) in the evening.

Yeah, timing of iron is a pain, just like hypothyroid medicine(PITA). Generally 4hrs away from everything else. Sometimes there’s just not enough hours in the day for keeping many things separate.

I had something sinus problems for about 4-5 days. I doubled down on my regiment for a couple of days.
Then a Dr Mandel on YouTube suggested fine sliced ginger and 4 cloves put in a pot with 2 cups water boil let cool a little. Put through a sieve and in a jar leave it in fridge for 3 days and drink it. Took care of my sinus problem totally. I repeated it one more time.
When one googles Ginger and cloves some interesting recipes come up even clearing mucus from the chest.
I am going to investigate it a little more.
In my case it was throat dryness, not a sinus problem. Oh, and green tea is in my arsenal too.
CO-Q-10 (spelling?) is mentioned here too, and I’ve ignored it. Up to now it’s generally been what the clueless walmart employee pointed me to when I asked for quercitin, so I bucketed it as “the wrong stuff” mentally.
CO-Q-10 is good for the heart and helps in energy production. (It also reduces hot flashes in us old ladies.)

It would be a really good idea to get a blood level for your vitamin D. Some people process/absorb/maintain it better than others. And it isn’t only how much sun you get, it is the strength of the sun you get. I am far enough north that even in summer, the sun is not that strong.

A few years ago I was prescribed 50,000 i.u. once per week because my D was low. That’s one pill once a week. The body can hold it for a while. I prefer the daily dose, however.
I really do recommend a blood test yearly. That way, you know what you need to be addressing. Cholesterol, blood sugar, vitamin D levels, liver function, all of it. This is how to stay healthy, not more drugs. Staying on top of it prevents illness. Once you are sick, things are harder to alleviate.

Ginger tea is a fantastic remedy for sinus colds, and the addition of cloves is just awesome! Ginger with honey and lemon is also really good for a sore throat. Cloves are an anti-viral and anti-inflammatory, too.

The best white sauce recipe I know:
Cut an onion in half and use three whole cloves to pin a bay leaf to the cut onion. Warm the “stabbed” onion in two cups of milk on low temp for 20 minutes, then make your roux and whisk in the milk. The flavor is awesome! If you add cheese, this makes the best mac n’ cheese ever.

Just noticed his Ivermectin dosage for treatment is .4-.5 mg per kg (I think) as opposed to the .2mg normally prescribed. FLCCC is raised as well, .4 -.6.

It is really outragius that our government does not advice people in a protocol to help to ease covid then just pushing the jab.
Dr Eric Berg also recommend in one of his videos to go cold turkey on sugar and carbs to help the body fight covid.
I have to say since I am on the vitamins no sugar low carbs my knee has become 90% better.
Kicking the sugar (NOT EASY) certainly helps too. I have been a tea drinker for forty years so the green tea is a staple. Hubby bought me 5 kilos (11 pounds) of gun powder green a few years ago. 😆

That is the best tea is strong black and one drink it with cream and candy sugar, One does not eat the candy sugar if there is some left in the cup one pours more tea.
At that time every home had coal stove in the kitchen and it was lit all day. The tea pot always was full and sat on the corner of the stove. Children drank the strong tea also and my parents wondered why I was hyper active 🙂

Tea is generally a wintertime thing for me (can’t see doing it when the house is broiling hot already) but I tend to go black with sweetener. Green tea, on the other hand, I drink straight, no sweetener.
Milk in tea simply tastes disgusting to me. That was how my mom used to drink it and that’s why I didn’t get into the habit until in my 50s.
Tea and lemon is good also or tea and rum in the wintertime.

I was reading of a a person on Gab that decided to fill an old toothpaste tube with the white colored Ivermectin horse paste to be in his bag if he had to be taken to the hospital. Brilliant idea, but anyone with Ivermectin on hand should not be needing to go to the hospital.
I have finally recovered from the Rona. (Still tired, but sooooo much better)
I took 1 dose of Ivermectin upon getting my positive diagnosis. took another dose every other day for 3 doses total. (Took Curacetin and zinc and vitamins C and D every day for 5 days during this period. Plan to take 1 dose of Ivermectin monthly and curacetin and zinc weekly until I hear of a better plan.
Don’t forget the OJ (vit. C) to start the day and a steak or hamburger smothered in red onions (zinc and Quercetin) washed down with green tea (epigallocatechin gallate aka EGCG).

There is a graphic on his Telegram site with details. It says that she finally found a doctor who would prescribe ivermectin, but the hospital won’t allow it to be administered because it goes against FDA, CDC, and AMA protocols. 😡😡😡

Yep, this is where homework comes in. Research before hand hospitals in your area that WILL give HCQ or Ivermectin. Only go there, or tell the ambulance driver to take you there. If you find yourself in a non-complying hospital, you or family member should contact complying hospital and have them send a transfer order to the hospital you are in. Hospitals cannot refuse transfer orders, they must comply. Complying hospital will send an ambulance to pick you up.

Afghan Resistance Says Taliban Claims of Victory in Panjshir Valley Are ‘False’

The anti-Taliban resistance group National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRFA), on Sept. 6 pushed back against the terrorist group’s claims of victory in the Panjshir Valley—the last Afghan province holding out against the group after it seized control of Kabul on Aug. 15.
“Taliban’s claim of occupying Panjshir is false,” the NRFA wrote on Twitter. “The NRF forces are present in all strategic positions across the valley to continue the fight. We assure the ppl [sic] of Afghanistan that the struggle against the Taliban & their partners will continue until justice & freedom prevails.”
The resistance group’s statement came shortly after Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid on Sept. 6 said the terrorist group had complete control of Panjshir province, located north of Kabul.
“With this victory, our country is completely taken out of the quagmire of war,” the spokesman said.
Photos of Taliban fighters in front of the Panjshir governor’s office have been shared by the Taliban. The office is located at the entrance of the valley.
Ahmad Massoud, the leader of the opposition group resisting Taliban forces, hasn’t yet released a statement on the matter. On Sept. 5, he said on Facebook that he welcomed proposals from religious scholars for a negotiated settlement to end the fighting.

“The NRF in principle agree to solve the current problems and put an immediate end to the fighting and continue negotiations,” Massoud, the son of a former anti-Soviet fighter, said in the Facebook post.
“To reach a lasting peace, the NRF is ready to stop fighting on condition that Taliban also stop their attacks and military movements on Panjshir and Andarab,” Massoud said, referring to a district in the neighbouring province of Baghlan.

“The resistance forces are ready to continue their defense against any form of aggression,” he said.
Another spokesperson for the resistance group told Al Jazeera on Sept. 5 that they had captured hundreds of Taliban members, adding that their forces surrounded “thousands of terrorists” loyal to the Taliban in Khawak Pass and that the Taliban had abandoned vehicles and equipment.
Also speaking to the Qatari-owned broadcaster, Fahim Dashti said that 1,000 Taliban members were killed, wounded, or captured in clashes.
It comes amid reports of heavy fighting continuing for days, with each side claiming it inflicted significant numbers of casualties. Multiple reports of drone attacks on NRFA fighters circulated on social media in the early hours of Sept. 6; The Epoch Times hasn’t been able to independently verify these accounts.
The Taliban, which swept through the country ahead of the final withdrawal of U.S.-led forces on Aug. 31, were unable to control the valley when it ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001.

However… I’m currently reading a book called the Arthushastra. It’s one of the major Hindu texts and deals with Economy, Politics and Power. Rather complex and sophisticated for the date written, that being circa 360 BC to 150AD.

btw, the two headless birds, swallows, were likely killed by a hawk. I went out there the next day and the bodies were gone from where I moved them from the front entrance. I think the hawk came back for them.

Some people had found sequences within the spike protein that were analogous to cobra venoms (neurotoxic), and had warned about that.
I was suggesting some kind of hemotoxic snake venom-like activity of the spike protein, based on observed symptoms of both COVID-19 and the vaccines.
THIS study is suggesting that some COVID patients REACT to the disease (and presumably to the spike protein of the vaccines as well) by secreting the enzyme found in snake venom.

I think that’s a really good question. Rattlesnakes are basically a DIFFERENT clot shot. It could be worse, or it could have no effect. Small chance the clot shot might actually protect somebody from the snake bite, but I would tend to suspect the opposite.
