Ich (I) ties it, as do many other words that even I know (bis, der, die, das, ein, zur). There are shorter words like zu, an, and am, but they are prepositions. I don’t know if any actual noun/verb/adjective is only two letters long.
“zu” also means “closed”, i.e auf = open, zu = closed. As in English, “O” all by itself could be considered, as a declarative… (as opposed to an imposter)…

CPE update — I put the hammer down and finished the course except for the stupid repetitious boring lease crap. It’s a 24-hour course, with 120 questions, so each question should be about 10 minutes. I have eight idiotic lease questions I need to Psaki on.
Technically, I could probably grade it now — I only need to get 84 correct to pass. But I’m the sort that normally gets 100% and gets annoyed when I don’t.
I believe that I’ve actually spotted an error on the other course’s exam — if I get that question “right”, I get to write a note to the CPE guys about correcting it. They love me over there.
Once I got unstuck from the lease tar-pit, much of the rest was sort of amusing when you’ve been around the block a few times. I’m going to include one such question below*. In it, the question wants the issue to be AU-C 701, but you don’t need to know anything about it to answer the question — you only have to know that auditors provide a service and that the service may or may not involve “key audit matters”.
Similarly, there was a bunch of stuff about who does what about certain going-concern issues….when auditors are comfortably aboard the RMS Carpathia and have only a responsibility to issue an opinion on how well the Titanic communicated its status.

After they returned home, their neighbors called the FBI on them. They were arrested by the FBI and charged with “criminal trespassing” and were told they would be put on a domestic terrorist list.
When asked about Ray Epps and his involvement in the so-called “insurrection,” Chris Burgard replied by calling Ray Epps an “agent provocateur.” He explained that there were “many, many, many Ray Epps” in the crowd, adding that there were “teams of Ray Epps out there that were coordinating” He relayed a story about a man “who was very similar to Ray Epps,” who was offering medical help to a “very in-shape 27-year-old fella, decked out in tactical gear who had gotten stuff in his eye.”

That’s good. I was sleeping prone at the worst of it, then more side and eventually back on my back again. I didn’t realize at the time WHY I was sleeping mostly prone and on my side, but it made sense later.

Kiddo is being a bit naughty bc even though he’s calling me to double check what he’s supposed to do for school he is messing around. He got out of language arts all week and is still going slow. Ive got so grading and organizing to do there. He is supposed to have all next week as vacation, but he may need to do a make up.
Whenever I hear about someone in the hospital with their STEM spouse at home, I’m reminded of an ex-girlfriend whose dad was a manager at NASA/JPL in Pasadena.
When her mom was in the hospital recovering from her birth, her dad had a lot of nervous energy. So, as an effort of love and devotion, he did time and motion studies in their kitchen to ensure he could arrange it in a maximally efficient manner for her mom’s return.
Unfortunately, mom’s potential savings of several inches of travel many times per day didn’t quite make up for her not knowing where a single f***ing thing was when she needed it.
Her parents were long-since divorced and I was merely spending some of summer break with her nearly two decades later and I heard plenty about this.

When I was in the hospital having a baby the tomatoes ripened . As I came out of anesthetic my husband sitting on the site of my bed proudley announcing “he made tomato sauce and it is better than yours”.
When I got home there were bowls of tomatoes on the table and my husband ask me “when are you was making tomato sauce?”
I said ” I am not making any sauce because you make it better than I”.
He looked shocked and said ” I realized I made a mistake and was hoping you did not hear it “.
Needless to say he preserved tomatoes until 2 AM while I had wonderful rest. 😂
He never did that again.

Additional info….One of the infected guys took a home covid test and it was negative. The next day he went to a testing center and the test was positive. Staff told him it was the fastest positive test they had seen.

Looks like the Democrats are getting far more than they ever dreamed possible, largely because of Mitch McConnell’s idiotic move of giving in on the Debt Ceiling and giving them two months to get their act together. They are destroying our Country! We have been put in a much worse negotiating position, but we have the “Trump Card,” and it’s called the Debt Ceiling. If they don’t drop this horrendous, Communistic style Bill that will be ruinous to all we stand for as a Country, we should not approve a Debt Ceiling increase. The Old Broken Crow has to be willing to play this hand, not like last time when he folded up like a cheap umbrella. Play it and mean it, because the Debt Ceiling is far less destructive than the Bill that they will otherwise successfully pass, especially when added to the “Unfrastructure” Bill that was just so stupidly approved. Republicans should not have allowed the separation, McConnell should not have given a two month reprieve, but it is what it is. Win with the Debt Ceiling, or resign!

I drove along the northern coast of it (not going up into that little peninsula that juts out into Lake Superior), drove over the bridge, went to set eyes on Lake Huron (which I also had never seen before) then recrossed the bridge and followed the South coast back into Wisconsin.
I definitely made sure to stop in the town (wide spot in the road) of Tapiola, as I *know* that is a Finnish name (Sibelius named a musical piece Tapiola). There was a shop there with a name on it that I don’t remember but was so obviously Finnish it leapt off the storefront, grabbed you by the ears, and screamed “SISUIIII” at top volume.
My grandparents lived in a Finnish retirement community in a Detroit suburb called Tapiola Village. They were lifelong members of the Finnish Center & all the churches they were a part of, at least that I’m aware of, had a strong Finnish connection.
We walked the Mackinac Bridge twice, in the mid-90’s when I was pregnant with our twins, & a couple years back, before “covid” in honor of my dad’s 80th birthday. The first time we were able to traverse the entire bridge, which I preferred. The state provided free bus rides across & then you’d walk back to your side of the straits. Last time I made sure to go further than the halfway point on the bridge to ensure the mileage was sufficient to “count” as a complete crossing, but that was much less satisfying.
We’ve never done any of those “circle tours” driving the perimeters of any of the great lakes. If you ever come back to Michigan you might want to look up “Under the Radar” a cheesy PBS show that highlights hidden gems in the state. There’s some great food & locales & some are mostly just known by the locals.
When we lived in Northern Michigan in our early marriage we were about an hour South of the Bridge & midway between Lakes Michigan & Huron. Beautiful country, at least to my eyes AND heart!

Red Wave Rising 2022-2024
This is one of my favorite banknotes it’s an obsolete banknote from Michigan the reason I like it it’s because of the dog head lower right corner.

This was pre-1862, when banks could issue their own money. (The federal government didn’t have paper money at all, except briefly during the war of 1812. Continental currency was before the federal government.)
You’d deposit your coins, the banks would lend them out, but they’d issue these notes. The notes were backed by the debts people owed the bank (considered assets). The system could work if the bank was honest. If it wasn’t honest they could simply run off more money than they could back with their assets.
If the bank failed and you were holding their notes, you were SOL.
Back in those days communications were poor, so a note from a bank 50 miles away was hard to even authenticate (know it actually came from the bank) much less know if the bank was sound, so the further you were from home, the less the banknotes in your wallet were worth. The designs were all different, so one common scam was to simply alter the denomination on a genuine note…you wouldn’t know a $5 note from a $1 note if it was from Tuscaloosa Alabama, if you live in Michigan. This is called “raising” the note. (The reason there’s almost always elaborate scrollwork behind denominations is to make it harder to do that.
Today, it’d be harder to get away with that: Banks would probably standardize their designs out of pure self-interest and there’d probably be apps out there to tell you whether a bank was “broken” or not.
The Federal government stepped in in 1862, requiring banks to use their designs and requiring minimum standards to issue the notes, these are “national bank notes” and would bear the name of the bank and its charter number. Once the Fed was established, that was doomed, and national bank notes came to an end in the 1930s.
(There was, briefly, a “federal reserve bank note” specifically issued by the federal reserve bank at one of the twelve branches.)

Update:
Worse last night. A friend of mine speculated it could actually be COVID. I have no idea, but it’s as plausible as anything else.
I’ve managed to sock away some horse medicine and antimalarial, so I immediately took a half-weekly dose of the horse stuff and a semi-daily dose of the antimalarial. I forced myself to eat something to accompany the antimalarial. Also took zinc.
Had heartburn the entire night. It was ridiculous, tums after tums after tums.
Then I realized one of the meds I had stopped taking for the duration was an acid reducer. Wouldn’t it be just hilarious if that was the main problem?
Woke up this morning feeling almost normal; I was even able to eat two slices of toast without feeling stuffed. The soup I could barely take a sip of yesterday is going to have a second chance as lunch today (and I took the second dose of antimalarial and zinc).
So feeling much better today (very close to my abnormal self), but this thing seems to come back to haunt me at night, so I’m not considering myself out of the woods.
11 pounds in three and a half days. Not recommended!

Around the 26 minute mark she discusses other researchers having their labs emptied of Everything when they’ve spoken about what they’ve seen in the clot shots. The part where she discusses the “20 level building” w/ the configuration of the rooms constantly changing analogy was interesting to me too. I could not agree more. In 1964 when I came to America I never heard Blacks calling themselves African Americans but I heard other ethnic groups calling each other or others where they were born or their ancestry.
Something happened along the way were blacks identified themselves as African Americans.

To put things in context now that the great but important Rittenhouse distraction is done and the dust is settling we find that House has passed Build Back Better. McCarthy gave an important and good 8 hour speech last night that finished up at 8AM this morning. Essentially McCarthy has been fumbling the ball since he’s taken leadership and the eight hour speech was an attempt at salvage. Adding: Sadly as best I know, (only watched 2 hrs) he never brought up the great steal, though he did manage to bring up every other angst we are all quite familiar with).
Anyway, take a look at Gaetz to get some prospective on where things sit now.

It’s certainly not encouraging….but I can think of a few worse things.
Almost as bad: Arriving and sitting 100 feet away from the gate for an hour and a half because there’s a major thunderstorm in progress. No physical reason the plane can’t move. But there is a very good safety reason: The guy with the guide wands would risk a lightning strike standing out there with his hands up in the air, and the plane cannot actually “dock” with the gate without his guidance. Understandable but frustrating! It make one wonder if there’s possibly some way that job could be automated.
Happens a lot at DFW, I’m told (quite likely, inaccurately).
