I understand it’s not all that difficult to get hold of liquid nitrogen. IIRC you get a flask full of it, and you have to return the flask as it’s a very fancy thermos bottle. (So I imagine there’s a deposit.)
Liquid oxygen on the other hand…well I’ve never looked into it to be honest.
I went to the aerospace museum in Hutchinson Kansas one time. (Why on Earth is there a space museum–a good one mind you, with actual capsules from manned flights–in that particular place is something I never figured out.)
One of the little demos you could sit through involved liquid oxygen. I think I was the only one there who realized it was liquid oxygen, though, not nitrogen (before they told us) because it had a distinct sky blue tinge to it. This was after they had poured a bunch of it onto the stage and so on. They burned a pad of steel wool in it, which is definitely interesting to watch, since you know it’s a cold liquid, which your gut (based on prior experience with liquids) tells you ought to stop combustion.
I had always thought the stuff was as dangerous as gasoline…but no, not really, though you don’t want to pour it on anything that’s burning without a lot of care.
One of the problems of liquid nitrogen in flasks is that is will condense oxygen, so that the “dregs” of a thermos of liquid nitrogen tends to be rich in liquid oxygen, and must be used with care, knowing that it can be highly oxidizing.
That seems to be one of those little details you’d really want to be careful around.
Yup. FRESH LN2 was always a good idea.
IIRC, the standard procedure for dregs was to pour them out while there was still plenty of LN2 present, on a clean, bare, unreactive surface in a ventilated hood with a blast shield, and let it evaporate and stand for a while before cleanup. The danger was concentration of dregs in the bottom of the thermos itself, on the chance of the increasingly LOX-rich mixture ALSO accidentally containing anything oxidizable (e.g., condensed or dripped organics).
That’ll keep the overclockers on their toes 😀

I think in one way or another, everything we live through is a lesson. I think we are in the midst of one now. I think it will continue until enough people actually learn what God is trying to tell us, not as individuals, but as humanity.
When all the churches just knuckled under and closed, made people including children cover their faces like Muslim women, and encouraged people to take a DNA-altering vaccine from their pulpits, I thought we might be in for a long-haul lesson from the Almighty. And I still think we are.

The word translated “meek” is πραεῖς, (“praus”). It was borrowed from the military and relates to horse training.
The Greek army would find the wildest horses in the mountains and bring them to be broken in. After months of training they sorted the horses into categories: some were discarded, some broken and made useful for bearing burdens, some were useful for ordinary duty and the fewest of all graduated as war horses.
When a horse passed the conditioning required for a war horse, its state was described as “praus,” [that is, meek]. The war horse had “power under authority,” “strength under control.”
A war horse never ceased to be determined, strong and passionate. However, it learned to bring its nature under discipline. It gave up being wild, unruly, out of control and rebellious. A war horse learned to bring that nature under control.
It would now respond to the slightest touch of the rider, stand in the face of cannon fire, thunder into battle and stop at a whisper. It was now “meek”. Aristotle said that the praus person is one who has the virtue of the mean between two extremes.
If recklessness were on one end and cowardice on the other, praus might be characterized as steady courage. For example, a meek person doesn’t shy away from taking a stand. Rather, the stand is taken at the right time, with the right people, in the right way.
He or she submits or constrains power for greater effect on self and others. It is carrying a sword, but knowing when to unsheathe it.
So meekness and gentleness, properly understood within their right biblical contexts, are calls to develop an intense and passionate devotion to the things of God, so as to develop a formidable strength within the arena of spiritual warfare.

I find black sermons against leftism occasionally, and they can be shocking. There is real black outrage. But the Democrat Fake News works VERY hard to make protests against school boards and leftism a WHITE FEMALE “insurrectionist” issue, and to make sure “women of color” are not part of the message. They’re less meticulous about letting Hispanic and other ethnic women slip by, but you will not see black women raising hell, even though you KNOW they have to be there.
We get occasional glimpses of the conservative black outrage on TikTok, but again – the ChiComs can filter and downgrade the spread of that response to Americans, and they do.
The TRUMP people always had a good connection to conservative black religious leaders, so they were frequently brought into White House events. And most of these people you NEVER heard of – right? There’s a reason. They are HIGHLY AVOIDED in the news cycle.

Many people (myself included) still don’t have smart phones. They’re expensive, even if free, because “the montly plan” becomes a noose around one’s neck, and the constant pestering of the various apps, etc., not to mention the “need to be seen” aspect of (anti)social media is not worth the trouble. And the tracking…. reason enough to avoid “smart” phones.
Finally, the deep state appear to be forcing us all onto smart phones so they can watch and control us, with apps for everything and NFC for payments, etc.
I’ll take my dumb candybar phone any day. I have small (and a couple of large) cameras that take spectacular photes, and are far better than any phone out there; I have (too many) computers of various types, ages, and power; and I have email and scheduling programs/materials that will still be there if my “candybar” dies, gets wet, or lost (and it’s survived quite a lot over the years). Oh, and it can go WEEKS on standby, with days of talk time….

Can’t vouch that this is real, but looks like modern warfare.
I turned up the resolution and slowed it down to 0.25, found that by keeping the cursor within the red blob on the timeline it would click though in very small steps.
If one starts just before the first hit there comes a hazy green patch just below the helicopters. I thought it might have been a reflection on the lens. However later on a trail comes to it and the hazy green apparently turns into what looks like an explosion.

The comments at YouTube are quite interesting, including the Air Force background of the uploader, Kevin Westley. Some of the comments point out the amazing clarity of the video, which was not available to the general public back on 9/11. I think the clarity was chosen to show footage ‘proving’ the plane’s entry into the tower. The older existing footage has not held up to close scrutiny and has the deep state scrambling to regain their false take of events.It reminds me of the these two villains from the James Bond movie, “Diamonds Are Forever”:

The one you will look for to find the link to the vid is “frame source”. Click that it will open in a separate tab and from there you can guess which of the links is the actual vid. Back home after a wonderful weekend with our son and family, soooooo… here is the grandma report Singing asked for:
Week-old granddaughter doing well and so sweet. It is always amazing to see the tiny perfection of a newborn! God be praised! She has delicate features, is on the lighter side of average and is healthy. I spent a good part of the weekend with her on my arm 😍 and the rest of it doing stuff with the other 2 kids to let their parents have a bit of a break. They did an outpatient birth and our son has been taking care of everything at home since then so they were both glad to have some peace and quiet for a few hours.
The newcomer seems to have a very patient and laid-back personality, which is good considering her 2 older siblings, 2 and 4 years, are both bundles of energy. Well behaved and all, but definitely high energy! 😅 I learned, for example, that a 4-year-old can talk for over an hour about different flavours of ice cream! That was definitely his excitement about the promised trip to the ice cream shop plus the sandbox toys–plastic ice cream cones, etc.–we had brought along for them. 😂
Sunday was church, then we all–including the other set of grandparents–went out for pizza. Not typical Easter or anything, but really made life easier for everybody. And good gluten-free pizza was a real treat! Afterwards, all the grandparents took the kids for a long walk in the park. DILs parents are actually good friends of DH and mine from back before any of us were married. Her mom and I were even roommates for awhile when we were both engaged. And to our surprise, at the kids’ wedding, her father read a passage from their guestbook where my husband had written his thoughts about what kind of friendships might ensue between our kids. Our son and DIL had first “met” when he was 3-4 months old and she was still in the womb! We had little contact with the family for many years after that due to circumstances on both sides, but our son ended up going to college near where they lived and attended the same church, sharing responsibility for the church youth group with DIL for several years…and the rest is (family) history!

On the one hand, I might not be surprised by a trend toward devolution of central control – the idea that “breakup is the zeitgeist” is reasonable. But the fact that he (Sumlenny) agrees 100% with the tweet below it, that Ukraine is going to “win” – which was an EARLY and HYPERBOLIC prediction – that makes me leery of his opinion in general.
I am starting to think that both sides will say they won, but Putin will walk away changing the map in a way that he finds satisfactory.
The mere fact that Russia didn’t get everything it wanted within one, at most two, weeks makes Russia look like a paper tiger. (Other than it having nukes, that is.) Their military is abysmally bad. How did Ukraine, of all places, manage to hold them off?
This thought bubble has to be over the heads of everyone in the Russian Federation who resents Moscow’s control. As the journalist pointed out, that’s sometimes an ethnic group, but sometimes it’s Russians so far away from “home” that they think the people back “home” haven’t a clue about them and have no business sticking their nose into local affairs.
(Not unlike a certain population of Englishmen who found themselves separated from the home islands by three thousand miles of ocean, with a parliament grasping to micromanage them. This further helps understand Putin’s desire not to let NATO continue to expand toward it’s border especially given the amount of corruption that exists in Ukraine where that country is being continuously raped by western powers in conjunction with individual corrupt oligarchs. It also demonstrates Russia’s need for an authoritarian leadership style to keep the peace that some what resembles the old communist system despite reform and new freedoms given to it’s republics.
All this helps the west by mischaracterizing Russia allowing the west many opportunities to exploit differences, develop jealousies and so on. I can well imagine how Western powers are salivating over a break up of these countries and if Ukraine is any example then you can be rest assured that the monies made will not be remaining in Russia at all.

I agree with you about the tranquility. There is just too much bad shit going on in the world right now, and I value peaceful discussion of what is happening. I truly fear that REALLY BAD times are coming, and we are going to need each other to get through it. I just read a ZeroHedge article about the worsening food shortage conditions. Real or manufactured, it makes no difference. Things are about to get real.
I taught a beginner gardening class for the first time the other day, and to say it was disheartening is the understatement of the year. I concluded that there is no way I can help these people in a two hour class time. We have not only lost the gardening knowledge of only a couple of generations ago, we have lost common sense, initiative, and independence. People want someone to do everything for them. The learned helplessness is palpable. After two hours of explication about drainage, soil-building, and plant requirements, you would just not believe the questions I got after class. It’s like nothing I said sunk in. Nothing. I think they wanted me to come plant the garden and tend it for them.
All in all, it was a pretty depressing experience.
The WORST one was a woman I know casually, who had encouraged me to teach. She has told me for months that she has killed her plants, can’t garden, sucks at it, etc. THEN, after the class, I ran into her and we had a convo. She told me a story about her daughter when she was a baby, crawling through her garden biting the heads off her broccoli! And here’s me thinking to myself “but you said you can’t garden!”
What has happened to these people, Wolf? Why would this person who can grow broccoli (not the easiest vegetable to grow here; our weather changes from cool to hot so fast), suddenly be convinced and trying to convince ME that she is incompetent at gardening, and begging me for help?
I just don’t get what the hell is happening, and it is very scary.
I’ve also noticed in the customer service realm that it seems like people have lost many I.Q. points. Dumb is a kind word for it.
