RINOs an Endangered Species?
If Only!
According to Wikipoo, et. al., the Northern White Rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum cottoni) is a critically endangered species. Apparently two females live on a wildlife preserve in Sudan, and no males are known to be alive. So basically, this species is dead as soon as the females die of old age. Presently they are watched over by armed guards 24/7.
Biologists have been trying to cross them with the other subspecies, Southern White Rhinoceroses (Rhinoceri?) without success; and some genetic analyses suggest that perhaps they aren’t two subspecies at all, but two distinct species, which would make the whole project a lot more difficult.
I should hope if the American RINO (Parasitus rectum pseudoconservativum) is ever this endangered, there will be heroic efforts not to save the species, but rather to push the remainder off a cliff. Onto punji sticks. With feces smeared on them. Failing that a good bath in red fuming nitric acid will do.
But I’m not done ranting about RINOs.
The RINOs (if they are capable of any introspection whatsoever) probably wonder why they constantly have to deal with “populist” eruptions like the Trump-led MAGA movement. That would be because the so-called populists stand for absolutely nothing except for going along to get along. That allows the Left to drive the culture and politics.
Given the results of Tuesday’s elections, the Left will now push harder, and the RINOs will now turn even squishier than they were before.
I well remember 1989-1990 in my state when the RINO establishment started preaching the message that a conservative simply couldn’t win in Colorado. Never mind the fact that Reagan had won the state TWICE (in 1984 bringing in a veto-proof state house and senate with him) and GHWB had won after (falsely!) assuring everyone that a vote for him was a vote for Reagan’s third term.
This is how the RINOs function. They push, push, push the line that only a “moderate” can get elected. Stomp them when they pull that shit. Tell everyone in ear shot that that’s exactly what the Left wants you to think, and oh-by-the-way-Mister-RINO if you’re in this party selling the same message as the Left…well, whythefuckexactly are you in this party, you lying piece of rancid weasel shit?
Justice Must Be Done.
The prior election must be acknowledged as fraudulent, and steps must be taken to prosecute the fraudsters and restore integrity to the system. (This doesn’t necessarily include deposing Joe and Hoe and putting Trump where he belongs, but it would certainly be a lot easier to fix our broken electoral system with the right people in charge.)
Nothing else matters at this point. Talking about trying again in 2022 or 2024 is pointless otherwise. Which is not to say one must never talk about this, but rather that one must account for this in ones planning; if fixing the fraud in the system is not part of the plan, you have no plan.
This will necessarily be piecemeal, state by state, which is why I am encouraged by those states working to change their laws to alleviate the fraud both via computer and via bogus voters. If enough states do that we might end up with a working majority in Congress and that would be something Trump never really had.

Mozart
Light this time around. The Turkish March, K331.
The string quartet, consisting of two violins, a viola and a cello, is a sort of economy orchestra. In the days when all music was live, if someone wanted to host a gathering and wanted music, they had to actually pay people to perform it. Except for the most fabulously wealthy hosts, that meant you weren’t going to be hearing symphonies and concertos! The string quartet was a good compromise (and you could even arrange a symphony for it). Each of the four instruments played different parts, so the music could be plenty complex.
Joseph Haydn around 1750 invented the “string quartet” as a compositional form (as opposed to an ensemble) with four movements, and wrote over sixty of them.
Mozart wrote 23 string quartets; this one, #17 “The Hunt,” K. 458 is probably the most famous of the bunch. Quartets 14-19 were dedicated to Joseph Haydn and composed between 1782 and 1785 (i.e., just after we won the Battle of Yorktown and bracketing the time we signed the Treaty of Paris with the United Kingdom).

James Webb Space Telescope Update
The mirror is done. Instruments are at proper temperature.
People who have spent half a lifetime working on it now get to move on to their next endeavor, and hopefully will succeed at it as well.
All of the instrument packages now get a crisp image. The mirror is better than they expected!
They will now proceed to commission those packages. That’s expected to take about two months.
The picture above shows the results of aiming the JWST at a part of the Large Magellanic Cloud. This is a small galaxy that is a satellite of our own Milky Way, and is readily visible at night in the southern hemisphere (as is the Small Magellanic Cloud), provided, of course, you’re not in a big city. It’s a good target because, as seen from here there are a lot of stars crammed together in one part of the sky and they’re all at pretty much the same distance from us.
(This is how we discovered that Cepheid variables had an intrinsic brightness proportional to their period of variability–an astronomer looked at a bunch of them in the LMC and SMC and noticed their apparent brightness was proportional to their period of variability; since all were at the same distance, the apparent brightness was directly related to the intrinsic brightness with no possible confusion due to differing distances.)
When Supernova 1987-A blew up in (wait for it) 1987, it was in the LMC.
I’ve never seen the LMC and SMC, though I did look for them when I was a good deal further south than I am now. Alas, the lighting situation was terrible.
Anyhow, the process of commissioning the instruments is expected to take a couple of months, and involves setting operating parameters and the like (the blog doesn’t have a lot of detail, so I didn’t boil it down for you; they did).

Additionally, I saw headlines for other industrial fires: a titanium plant, a factory that makes plastic storage products, a pharmaceutical plant, a ceiling tile factory, a gas plant explosion, etc. How many of these are legit accidental fires and how much of it is the Enemy deliberately sabotaging anything they can?
1/10 – Deli Star meat plant in Fayetteville, IL burns down
4/24 – General Mills plant in Cedar Rapids, IA burns down
4/25 – Fire at Hormel Foods Plant making Planters’ Peanut products in Suffolk, VA
4/26 – Sausage factory in Harlow, England burns down in “massive blaze.”
Just as a side note, San Jose had one of the best industrial fires ever about 20 years ago.

Most of the businesses that burned down specialize in metal recycling. For the ones that recycle all materials, the article usually made a note along the lines of “the fire started around the scrap metal pile.” It’s like they’re targeting metal specifically. And then there was that one oil recycler in Mexico that burned down on the same exact day as some other Mexican scrap metal recycler.
Thing is, with the exception of magnesium, it is difficult to find large quantities of flammable metals. If you had to burn a pile of copper wire, for instance, you’d need huge amounts of accelerant and (likely) forced air.
Hmmm. That would make it all the more suspicious then.
If the metal recycling plants are crushing vehicles as part of their operation, there are a number of things that are flammable in them. Engine oil, gasoline, and transmission fluid have to be drained from them, plus tires removed.
During World War Two, recycling metal became a critical necessity in having the materials needed for waging war. Might the current fires be related to thwarting recycling efforts to fight some future war?

Back in February a metal recycling place not far from here went up… HUGE fire (could see it from a distance). They said it was due to an e-bike that was tossed with the batteries in, and it caught fire… how they could determine that after such a huge conflagration, I’ll never know… There were something like 17 fire trucks and 75 firefighters called in to fight the fire…
Thing is, the “metal” going in is not raw metal, but painted and treated metal, with (sometimes) plastic, rubber, cloth or other bits attached which would be (have been) removed by the cleaning and recycling process. This particular facility had not had a fire in at least 20 years, if not longer…
Another odd thing is that the road bridge spanning the river nearby, and probably within one or two hundred feet of the fire, is in the middle of being repaired and repaved. Already a year in… Fortunately it wasn’t affected, but one wonders about all the repair work being done (Notre Dame and other Cathedrals, anyone?) where fires mysteriously break out… and you can be sure that at least some of the “Fachkräfte” (Merde-Kuh’s “specialists” and “professionals” from the Middle East and Africa) were refauxgees…..

I told my husband about the recycling firers. He said batteries could do it or anything that has oil on it. Also computer boards they recycle them to get the the silver and platinum out out forgot the other what he said.
He said it it caused through sloppiness. He is OSHA certified to teach it in University.

I had threatened to do a series about Lake Tanganyika, and started with Lamprologus ocellatus “gold” and native jellyfish.
This episode will be about the genus Tropheus — which is not to be confused with a similar genus of fish in Lake Malawi — Pseudotropheus. [Guess which was discovered first….]
There are about eighteen gazillion distinct types of Tropheus (mostly by color pattern), but they generally fall into three species — duboisi [named after the biologist Dubois], moorii [named after the biologist Moore] and brichardi [named after Pierre Brichard, who was a major exporter]. All three species are found in this lake and nowhere else. There are frequent rumors of other potential species, but we’ll talk taxonomy in another installment.
Because of the plethora of colors, and the desire to have colors breed true, the usual name for a batch of fish is something like “Tropheus moorii ‘Ilangi'” where Ilangi (that’s an il or IL, BTW) is the collection point. It could be the name of a village, a mountain, a rock, an island, a reef, someone’s sunken boat, or a random descriptor (another popular variety is “Red Rainbow”). Another descriptor is, for instance, “F1” — F0 would be wild caught at the designated collection point (but likely to be adults); F1 would be bred from wild caught (more likely to be fry, and thus more adaptable — but retaining maximum genetic diversity). F12 would be your sketchy inbred Farsi-speaking čāhārtār-playing fish that are prone to go missing five times per day.
Tropheus duboisi are easy to distinguish, so we’ll blow them off first. All duboisi youngsters (“fry”) are dark-chocolate to black, with bright white spots, and are super-cute. This is when it is easiest to accidentally mix them and end-up with mutt adults. Here’s some cute ones —
You will note that the top surface of the rocks are covered with algae. This is the “aufwuchs” that tropheus are born to eat (although this batch seems to be too high in cyanobacteria). You will also note two very different other fish species in there.
One is either an Altolamprologus compressiceps or Altolamprologus calvus. As you can guess from the body shape, their major feeding technique is to squeeze into cracks nobody else can fit into and eat those therein, and their major defense is to wedge themselves into cracks that predators cannot fit into. With this quality of film, it is usually not possible to tell a compressiceps from a calvus — Brichard had been exporting both as “compressiceps” for years until he got one that he examined thoroughly and said something like, “I’ll be switched — this is a different fish.” It has to do with the arrangement of scales on the face and top of face. “Compressiceps” means, roughly “squished”, and “calvus” is something close to “baldy”. I suspect that it’s a calvus because the newer, cooler color varieties tend to be calvus.
The other fish, a Cyprichromis, lives in schools away from the rocks. They probably need their own post.
As adults, Tropheus duboisi ‘Maswa’ are supposed to have yellow stripes around them and potentially blue heads. Different collection locations will have different variations (but all fry have spots). They tend to have wider jaws than, say, moorii, and look a little more bovine, IMHO. Here’s a nice-looking group —

I read in a book by Matt Ridley on genetics that the Malawi fish are a slow genetic circle round the edges of the lake. Those from any opposite sides are distinct to the point of speciation (? Spelling) but their neighbours able to interbreed.
I don’t know if I’d call Malawi speciation slow….but Lake T is in hyperdrive.
Let’s take Tropheus (since we’ve just been talking about them). They hang out near rocks (from which they graze aufwuchs) and do not spend time in open water or over sand. Further, they don’t go very deep on the rocks because they want fresh green algae. This means you can have two very distinct color varieties a couple of miles from each other.
Then, let’s run the water level in the lake up-and-down a few times. The Lake T basin has, at times over the millenia, been home to 1, 2, or 3 separate lakes. Never mind how one rock outcropping could be two if the water level dropped 100 feet.
If you take a population, split it arbitrarily, and teach each half not to favor the other half for spawning, you have two populations. If one learns to eat X and the other learns to eat Y, you will likely have different species in short order.
As an aside, the great majority of the Lake T nuts were once Malawi fans. The mbuna, utaka, and Peacocks are still cool. It’s just that Lake T is the Linux of fishkeeping — everything’s possible, and can be fit together in a number of ways.
I think he’s talking about a ring species, not the rate of speciation. At one end, is a population (A) that can breed with its neighbors to one side (B), but not the other (Z). So it looks like two separate species, A and Z. But those B neighbors can breed with their neighbors C, and those neighbors, C, in turn with theirs, D, all the way around a shoreline (or a mountain range surrounding a valley). Eventually you get to the Z population. So going in one direction there’s a continuous chain of being able to breed, all the way around a ring but with a gap…where the two “ends” of the continuum meet.
I did a Harbor Freight Run, and as I was checking out a guy was coming in with a lizard. It seemed small for its size.

I realized he not only didn’t know, but had not realized he didn’t know what you were trying to get at, but had thought you were talking about something different. So I wrote a quick explanation…which probably still would be unclear to someone who hadn’t heard of ring species.

Another generic fish fact from Lake T…..
Many of the fish in Lake T have evolved the strategy of “mouthbrooding”.
A lot of fish create a nest, lay their eggs on a rock or a leaf in the nest, and defend the nest as best they can, sometimes dying in the process. With a mouthbrooding cichlid, the eggs may be laid on a stone in the nest and fertilized there, but then a parent (generally the mother — though there are biparental mouthbrooders) takes eggs into a cheek pouch and can take them with her away from predators.
Tropheus and Cyprichromis from the spotted video are both mouthbrooders. The Altolamprologus is a substrate spawner — they lay eggs on a thing and guard it — and you’ll notice they seem very protective of the folded tortilla next to them. It’s not unique to Lake T —

Neolamprologus brichardi has what is known as a “lyretail”, where the fin tips are extended. Tropheus brichardi can have the same type of tail, although *spoiler, may be a new species* many fish identified as Tropheus brichardi do not.
Petrochromis are like giant, more aggressive, less colorful Tropheus and are very rare in the aquarium trade as nobody wants to give them the space.

I’m a bit confused myself (I know, I know — alert the media…..). Typically, the garrotte is a small, personal device with two handles that is looped over a victim’s head and pulled tight, strangling the victim. There are several depicted in the Godfather trilogy — Luca Brasi was killed in this fashion, Frank Pentangeli is attacked by the Rosato brothers with one (but survives to testify), Carlo Rizzi is killed with one by Clemenza. They are typically strung with things like piano wire, bowstrings, or nylon, and can bury themselves in softer tissues of the victim’s neck.

A more clear distinction would have been between “short drop” hanging and “long drop” hanging.

So how can China use this information? First off it will help deflect from their responsibility from the CV. Mozart may have written vocal works, but nothing to match Schubert’s Lieder, And Schubert’s Chamber Music, particularly his string works, are deservedly among the best out there (the two cello quintets. for instance).

I find that when I think I am asking God to forgive me I am often in reality (unless I watch myself very carefully) asking Him to do something quite different. I am asking Him not to forgive me but to excuse me. But there is all the difference in the world between forgiving and excusing. Forgiveness says “Yes, you have done this thing, but I accept your apology, I will never hold it against you and everything between us two will be exactly as it was before.” But excusing says “I see that you couldn’t help it or didn’t mean it, you weren’t really to blame.”. . .
Real forgiveness means looking steadily at the sin, the sin that is left over without any excuse, after all allowances have been made, and seeing it in all its horror, dirt, meanness and malice, and nevertheless being wholly reconciled to the man who has done it.

I believe you made the argument back then that “allowing” public voting (what I’m actually in favor of, as a forensic and personal vote security tool) is effectively the same as mandating it, a position with which I still don’t agree.
Setting that secondary argument aside, then yes – I’m in favor of the option of secret voting and the option of secret commenting. I think that a freely chosen mix of attributable and anonymous is maximally confounding to the bad guys.

Yes, I had indeed misremembered the discussion.
My concern back then was that someone would either bribe the elector to vote for Billy instead of Bob–and require the elector to vote “openly” to prove it. Or *threaten* the elector, “vote public and for Billy or I will fire you.” The stated goal of the current system (badly missed, but still) is to allow someone to be able to prove *that* they voted but not be able to prove what their vote looked like.
Your concern about auditability, I frankly don’t know how to assess other than a really complex system I saw suggested once where each voter filled out what was in essence THREE ballots. The scanning machine would check to ensure he always voted 2 for one candidate, 1 for the other (net, 1 vote for his candidate). He’d get to keep one of the three ballots after the scan. Each ballot would be randomly numbered; the voter could then go look the ballot up on line. But he could NOT prove that the people marked on his ballot are who he actually voted for on net.
If the system is prevented from knowing which ballot the voter retained, this basically allows checking of a random 1/3 of all ballots to ensure they were scanned and counted properly.
Interesting audit scheme. There has to be something simpler. Hmmmmm…….
Yeah, if we were to actually implement THAT, half the voters would never be able to figure it out. And when they did, they’d just put their faves on the first two ballots and the other party on the last ballot.
The sneaky thing to do, of course, when voting under that scheme is to put about a third of your single votes for the other guy on each ballot. That way you should be able to spot a partisan pattern to the fraud, since your “keeper” ballot would be about 1/3 votes for someone you didn’t like.
By the way ALL ballots would be posted, with their ID numbers, after the election. But you’d have no way to prove the other two ballots were yours.
IMO, this is a very short-sighted statement. People get stalked, both on a personal level and by the government. And sometimes it is best for neighbors, coworkers, and family not to know every opinion they post on the internet. They might be working on red-pilling others, and for them to see everything before its time could turn them away forever. I’m surprised at Huckabee.
