Mercy and Grace
Mercy and grace are closely related. While the terms have similar meanings, grace and mercy are not exactly the same. Mercy has to do with kindness and compassion; it is often spoken of in the context of God’s not punishing us as our sins deserve. Grace includes kindness and compassion, but also carries the idea of bestowing a gift or favor. It may help to view mercy as a subset of grace. In Scripture, mercy is often equated with a deliverance from judgment (e.g., Deuteronomy 4:30–31; 1 Timothy 1:13), and grace is always the extending of a blessing to the unworthy.
According to God’s Word, we have all sinned (Ecclesiastes 7:20; Romans 3:23; 1 John 1:8). As a result of that sin, we all deserve death (Romans 6:23) and eternal judgment in the lake of fire (Revelation 20:12–15). Given what we deserve, every day we live is an act of God’s mercy. If God gave us all what we deserve, we would all be, right now, condemned for eternity. In Psalm 51:1–2, David cries out, “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.” Pleading for God’s mercy is asking Him to show kindness and withhold the judgment we deserve.
We deserve nothing good from God. God does not owe us any good thing. What good we experience is a result of the grace of God (Ephesians 2:5). Grace is simply defined as “unmerited favor.” God favors us—He shows us approval and kindness—in blessing us with good things that we do not deserve and could never earn. Common grace refers to the blessings that God bestows on all of mankind regardless of their spiritual standing before Him, while saving grace is that special blessing whereby God bestows unmerited divine assistance upon His elect for their regeneration and sanctification.
Mercy and grace are evident in the salvation that is available through Jesus Christ. We deserved judgment, but in Christ we receive mercy from God and are delivered from judgment. In Christ we receive eternal salvation, forgiveness of sins, and abundant life (John 10:10)—all gifts of grace. Our response to the mercy and grace of God should be to fall on our knees in worship and thanksgiving. Hebrews 4:16 declares, “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
A man had two sons. The younger son asked his father to give him his inheritance, and his father obliged. The younger son then left home and went to live in a ‘far country’, where he squandered all the money his father had given him.
When all his money had gone, he found himself starving. He realized that his father’s servants had bread enough to eat, and yet he had none. So he went home to beg for his father’s forgiveness, and ask his father to take him in under his roof as one of his hired servants.
When his father saw him coming, he ran to him, kissed him, and ordered his servants to fetch his best robe, and put it on his son, and to put a ring on his hand and shoes on his son’s feet. He then ordered them to prepare a fatted calf for their meal, so they can eat and celebrate his son’s return.
Mercy is not giving his son the punishment he deserved.
Grace is giving his son the honor he did not deserve.

I figure exactly two people here will appreciate this:
A bunch of playing with Pythagoras and the “Twisted Square” diagram.
One of the fun things about the classic 3-4-5 Pythagorean triple is that you can run it backwards. If you have a rope with ten equidistant markings between its two ends, you can make a 3-4-5 triangle with it which will have a right angle between its short sides.
I remember seeing a claim that that is how Egyptian surveyors laid out a right angle.
I have no idea if it’s true.

Incidentally, when I was in Junior High, my mom was pursuing a PhD in the History of Mathematics…..so I have a whole lot of “I think I heard this” that doesn’t have clear references because I picked them up from her studies.
Not sure about the Egyptians either, but this was how I and a friend working a couple week ago on a small construction project did verify a right angle at the corner. Marked 80 cm to one side and 60 cm to the other side, and see if the diagonal was a full 100 cm. (it was)
It certainly works.
One nice thing about it is that you can lay out a wall on a slab, put in studs and such, then use that kind of measurement to square it up — if the diagonal is 98 or 102, you can whack it until it’s correct, then maybe apply a shear panel.

I have used it to lay out my riding arenas. Double check to make sure the diagonals are the same distance and adjust until they match.
Actually if all you do is check the two diagonals to see if they match, you could end up with a trapezoid (keystone shape). You’d also have to measure both sets of opposite sides (or otherwise know they’re equal because say, you cut the lumber for them). A riding arena is likely too big for the lumber exception to apply, though!
Dressage arena (small) is 66 ft X 132 ft so I was checking to see that the diagonals were equal (147.6 ft)
We did it that way too when I was doing carpentry as my first construction job. 6′, 8′, 10′ laying out decks.
Interesting. Certainly fits with the reverence for 60 and its divisors (like 12) – applicability to routine problems likely had a lot of influence.
Likely true, in the Delta region of Egypt there would be a requirement to continuously resurvey the land because of annual flooding both for determining ownership and tax revenue as well as seed and labor requirements. Same was happening in Mesopotamia and though flooding was more irregular, it still came, also governance came and went at a more rapid pace and ownership was constantly changing hands even in peaceful times as parcels of lands were bought and sold to meet economic needs and pass inheritance down.
Additionally given the terrain in the fertile crescent was often subject to more deviation the need for more complex methods in determining plots of land would exist and that the solutions to calculate such would give rise to mathematics of more complex nature.
This 1700 BC fragment was typical as students made copies of their teachers text and brought them home to study and show mom and dad that they were not just lazy laybouts quaffing beer and laying about with prostitutes and temple girls.
The Egyptians generally get credit for inventing geometry (which, if you analyze the word, it’s Earth-Measure) for this reason, of course when it comes to Egypt vs. Mesopotamia there’s usually an argument to be made as to who did something first.
In both cases the large buildings (pyramids in Egypt, temples in both areas) had to be laid out with the same techniques they used to (re) survey land.
The Greeks of course refined it…a lot.

Florida schools were awesome when I lived in Bradenton back in the late 70s early 80s. I was taking college level math in 10th grade. So, I’m ripping through my Continuing Education requirements.
It’s been a mixed bag, but I’ve found one that is pretty good — “Corporate Turnaround Artistry”. I did my time in those trenches and much of his advice is good. His anecdotes are on point and don’t rely on celebrity cameos.
I think we could sit down and have a couple of beers and swap additional stories beyond those in the text.
As an example (mind you, I didn’t actually do this, but I heard it from a guy who did), there is a way to reverse a check that completely cleared in prior days. It comes down to something the author describes in this course.
If you withhold tax money from a worker’s paycheck, you HAVE to get it to the government. If you fail to do so, there is an automatic 100% penalty attached, and the doubled amount can be sought from ANYONE involved — there is a famous case where waitresses at a bar had their paychecks held in the till until the night bartender distributed them — the Feds went after the night bartender for not paying over the withholdings, despite only seeing sealed envelopes (the Feds lost the case, but legal fees did what they do). Until the Feds get theirs, the debt cannot be discharged through bankruptcy.
If you prepare paychecks, there are actually fewer penalties if you don’t actually pay the employees than if you don’t give the Feds the withholdings. At a minimum, you should plan on faking your death and assuming another identity if you opt to play this game.
Anyway, this company had a practice of having a $20K payroll and then paying over $5K to the Feds every two weeks. At one point, the company had $38K in the bank, made its $20K payroll, and then wrote a $16K check for COD parts, which cleared. The company’s financial guy discovered this when he went to deposit the payroll taxes and was told that there weren’t sufficient funds.
He calmly called up the bank and said they had to reverse the $16K check. The bank pushed back and said it had already cleared and goods had been released based on that. Most people (including myself) would figure that was it — but with the right lever and the right stone, seemingly impossible things can happen.
The company’s financial guy said, “oh, so you’re the reason that payroll taxes aren’t being paid over to the Feds. I did what I had to do; you prioritized other payments.” The cleared check got reversed and the Feds got their funds. The COD vendor was livid, but…..
And, once again, I had the opportunity to learn from someone else’s experience.

Woke up this morning bursting with optimism and hope. Been thinking how fortunate we patriots are to have Donald Trump on our side. The recent coordinated attacks against him seem especially absurd, childish and laughable. And those attacks are, as VSG says, actually attacks against us.
All the phony events fabricated to galvanize the populace against Trump come off as the booming of empty barrels.
Maybe above all, our side had remained strong, resolute, calm, and smart. That is a very uplifting thought.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

My most recent example of how far we have fallen in my poor little grand daughter. She had her first “boyfriend” break up with her BY TEXT, during school. Poor thing was so upset she called me to come get her.

I told her I would kick my kid’s ass if they did such a thing. Seriously. That is NOT how we treat people.

It is anti-carpel tunnel. If you already have carpel tunnel syndrome, trackball does a great job of minimizing further pain/damage.
I told Hubby and he said his mouse is failing so he will take the one he bought and get me the Logitech trackball.
My problem is I am left handed and he set my computer up right handed. Therefore my mouse sits on a board in my lap. It got dumped on the floor once too often. The cord catches on the edge of the desk and it gets jerked off the board if I swivel the chair too far without thinking.

I got two of these Kensington Expert trackballs after starting to get aches in my wrist. Never had a problem since. There’s no left or right hand issue, can be used either way. So Ceres is officially “1 Ceres” (discovered 1801), Vesta is “4 Vesta” (discovered 1807), Pallas is 2 Pallas (discovered 1802)…and Hygeia is 10 Hygeia. It was discovered forty eight years later than Ceres. That’s a consequence of it being so dim.
The pace of discovery has picked up considerably in the last 30 years, things having gone from four figures to six.
I said usually assigned in order of discovery…when Pluto got demoted from full fledged planet, it was immediately assigned the next number (134340), which is way out of line with its 1930 discovery date, but in perfect keeping with when it was decided it was a minor planet. (And of course something doesn’t get a permanent number until it’s confirmed, which can take years–until then it gets a provisional designation with the year and letters).

The CDC / FDA, “at the request of European regulators”, removed almost all reporting parameters from foreign countries related to adverse reactions to the COVID-19 “vaccines” as of Friday 18 November 2022. This removal makes a HUGE, NEGATIVE IMPACT on the ability to search the VAERS database to look at adverse reactions reports, ages of the persons with the reactions, the COVID-19 “vaccine” involved, and outcomes reports from other countries.
One can testify that the EMA (European Medicines Agency) also making it more difficult to find and to search the EUDRA Vigilance database, which is a kind of “VAERS for Europe.”
Dr. Rose is one of the scientists who relied on the foreign COVID-19 “vaccines” adverse reactions reports in VAERS in the search for the truth of the disaster that these “vaccines” are. In her article above, she shows several charts that reveal the effects of the purge of the foreign VAERS reports.
For example, there is an almost 50% DECREASE in the number of reports of myocarditis after someone gets a third (or “booster shot”) of a COVID-19 “vaccine” between 14 October 2022 and 18 November 2022. This means that CDC / FDA et al, can claim there is no real “safety issue” regarding myocarditis for people getting a third (or “booster shot”) of a COVID-19 “vaccine” (let alone getting any injection of one of these “vaccines.”)
Dr. Rose also noticed that there are 4,560 FEWER reports of cancer engendered by a COVID-19 “vaccine” shot between 11 November 2022 and 18 November 2022 (the day that CDC / FDA purged the foreign data sets.) In addition, she noticed that there were 315 FEWER reports of spontaneous abortions engendered by a COVID-19 “vaccine” shot between the same two dates.
IMO, the goal of the CDC / FDA here is to start making the case that ANY severe reaction / pregnancy loss / case of myocarditis or pericarditis / case of autoimmune disease, etc., that happen after a COVID-19 “vaccine” shot are “rare”, and that “the benefits of the vaccines outweigh the risks.”

That is why they do not plow our side streets. It buries the cars.
I live by a three-lane highway that goes over a “stupid” mountain with a major freeway on one side and a smallish hospital on the other. When there’s winter weather, VDOT hires two guys with huge John Deere tractors followed by a big VDOT snow plow that spreads salt mixture behind it. They run to the top of our mountain and back to the valley all night long. At the top of the mountain is the county line so a different crew works that side of the mountain. I cannot tell you how wonderful and comforting it is to hear those plows passing my house through a snowy night when all else is so quiet. The deepest snow since I moved here over 14 years ago was a little over two-feet deep (above my knees in places). They do leave a snow pile across my driveway entry and that snow is so heavy to shovel.
I have seen it. I used to walk up the snow banks and step OVER the telephone lines to play in the field across the street as a kid.
