In Menlo Park, the Calso Mineral Water company made entirely synthetic “mineral water” out of Hetch Hetchy water with additional minerals and carbonation. In Santa Clara, the same Mayor that gave the 49ers an NFL stadium also “forgot” to renew the water allocation — so we got the f’in’ stadium and lost clean water at the same time — the Mayor abruptly resigned and left for parts unknown.

This is from the California Water Project — a wildly ambitious (and largely successful) plan to control water in the state from north to south. It has been largely stymied by environmentalists for decades. No new reservoirs have been built in the last 40 years, while the population of the state has tripled (largely in dry areas).
Interesting that the last link shows Castaic Lake as a water storage place while Pyramid Lake is absent.
Castaic is not primarily a drinking water source; it is an electric sales scheme.
It is connected to Pyramid Lake with tunnels. The water flows from Pyramid during the day and generates high priced electricity on the way down to Castaic. At night when the electric rates are much cheaper, electric pumps push the water back to Pyramid.
This process goes on constantly, and creates substantial profits for LA’s Department of Water and Power. When I first learned about it, I thought it was a genius idea. Still do.

It is a fairly common practice where it makes sense. A similar concept is used in large air conditioning or refrigeration systems. They make large amounts of ice at night when it is cheap, and then use the ice banks during the day to provide cooling when the rates are much higher.

There is but it would greatly increase (and I mean by orders of magnitude) the SCOTUS or rather the judiciary workload.
Right now you can’t bring suit against an unconstitutional law until you can show it harmed you, e.g., by being arrested/convicted for violating it. That gives you “standing.”
If anyone in a jurisdiction could get “standing” against a law simply because it was unconstitutional (and not because it was applied to them), then they could bring the case, but that would surely lead to 100 or even 1000 times as many challenges, and SCOTUS would have to hear them all. And the Left would no doubt abuse this as well, bringing suit against any law that “violated the right to vote” or “violated the rights of migrants,” etc.
The Standing rule as it is today makes it much more expensive (and much more time consuming) to overturn these bad laws (you have to find someone willing to be arrested, tried, and convicted–and at that point the Leftists passing the laws would just as soon no one actually got punished for violating the law, just so long as it makes gun dealers gun-shy), but in the end you can see why they had to do *something* to reduce the number of frivolous challenges they have to deal with.

But it can take years to resolve. So passing the knowingly unconstitutional law can do a lot of damage in the meantime.

Imagine what that would mean, if a Justice leaked. The Supreme Court is a lifetime appointment. A Justice can be impeached, but it’s like removing a President. And that would create chaos in the country.

I believe the top piece refers to the 17 or 18 dead from the helicopter crash in Kiev, alluding the crash was for demanding some cookies from the cookie jar.
The bottom is simply talking about the cookie jar and how easy and lucrative it is to steal all these cookies pouring into Ukraine and likely feeds back to the top and how those now dead were able to demand those cookies.
