Here we are. Friday. In honor of the day, today’s libation is a Rusty Nail.
For decades, one of the hottest cocktails was the Rusty Nail. But after a good run, the simple combination of scotch and the scotch-based liqueur Drambuie, a word derived from Gaelic meaning “the drink that satisfies,” has fallen off most bar menus and is rarely ordered by patrons.
Just as mystifying as its disappearance was its appearance in the first place. The lineage of the potent after-dinner libation is contested, with many believing it was invented in 1937 for the British Industries Fair trade show. It does appear in the 1967 edition of “Old Mister Boston Official Bartender’s Guide,” the cocktail book of record through the post-Prohibition 20th century. (A similar drink, dubbed the Little Club #1, is included in Ted Saucier’s 1951 “Bottoms Up.”)
By the late 1960s, bars in New Orleans and New York were serving the concoction, and “Have you tried a Rusty Nail?” was a common refrain. The Rusty Nail is often credited to the clever bartenders at the 21 Club in Manhattan sometime in the early 1960s. It makes sense, being that the establishment created the famous B & B—half Bénédictine and half cognac—as well. It’s easy to imagine that the talented crew applied the same formula to another cordial and liquor, but I haven’t been able to substantiate that claim.
Lore has it that the Rat Pack was enamored with the drink, which may have been responsible for the wide appeal in those years. In the 1970s, I mixed many a Rusty Nail at the joints I worked at in New York. They were also a hit at P.J. Clarke’s, a favorite late-night haunt of Frank Sinatra.
As with lots of classics, the recipe varies widely. Ted Haigh, the author of “Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails,” likes two parts scotch to one part Drambuie; “Old Mister Boston” calls for a one-to-one ratio; and many modern versions are far drier, with some suggesting four parts whisky to one part liqueur. You could also substitute bourbon for scotch and get a Rusty Spike. But the Rusty Nail is a classic for a reason, and the two-to-one ratio will always be a fine example of the drink.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 ounces scotch
- 3/4 ounce Drambuie
Steps
- Add the scotch and Drambuie into a mixing glass with ice and stir until well-chilled.
- Strain into a rocks glass over one large ice cube.
So simple even the Scots can make it. Of course, most of their food is based on a dare.

I understand not wanting to read the trans stuff. I posted this one because the new “protected class” is the one wreaking havoc and death, and there are ramifications. Those with their heads screwed on straight will note that it is a sickness on our society, while the Left will use it to say we aren’t catering to those people enough. In other words, it’s part of the battle we are in and I think it’s important to be fully aware, as distasteful as it might be.
I’ve been speculating in my head about what group will be up next on the wheel …my choice is some kind of political victim class and the bully, of course, will be conservatives. They will specifically designate MAGA as being so scary and violent that all others feel frightened and threatened.

Yes, I’m having trouble coming up with what might be next, but I don’t think like they do, and that makes it hard to predict. I could not have predicted that they’d try to get us to accept drag queens performing sexually explicit acts for children, and that some parents would go along with it!
I think they’re pushing boundaries to see how far we will let them go. We need to ramp up the boycotts and rhetoric against all of it. IMO this is a spiritual battle as well as a political one. Good grief, it is EASY:
Measure the water put in a covered pan. While the water is coming to a boil, measure the rice place in bowl and add spices if you wish. When the water boils add rice & spices, stir and lower heat to simmer (#2 on my stove) set timer and cook. Turn off burner and check that all the water is gone, if not leave covered for another 5 to 10 on the hot burner.
Add butter so the rice doesn’t clump when you store it in the frig.
(Oatmeal is similar)

Well, that’s twice in as many days.
Wordpus is back to its old habit of kicking me out at random times.
I look upon it as both an annoyance and an opportunity.
I use a VM (virtual machine, also called “qube” in QubesOS) for this site where Firefox is configured to forget absolutely EVERYTHING except cookies from the sites needed to remember my login. So, basically, I click on the browser icon, which starts the qube and opens the browser, and I’m “in.” That’s one of two tricks this qube knows (the other is shutting down [and thus self-lobotomizing] as soon as the browser closes…the default way some qubes work, but not this kind).
That doesn’t mean that things don’t accumulate in the downloads folder, and so on (anything truly important I export to other qubes, thence to offline storage…No, offline storage never touches a qube that touches the internet).
So it’s probably good internet hygiene for me to blow this qube away and rebuild it every few days. The only (minor) headache is I haven’t been able to find a human-readable config file option for “sites whose cookies should not be deleted on shutdown” so I have to re-set that up. (If it was a file, I could copy it to the qube as part of the setup, totally automatically.) But the fresh qube has in my user account’s home directory a text file that lists those sites, so it’s just copy/paste into Firefox’s settings window. (Open terminal, cat the file, mouse copy and paste; close terminal, probably never have to open it again until the next time, since this qube does nothing but browse to QTree and any links I click from there.)
But anyway, back to being booted off at random times, apparently!

Absolutely incredible work.
I was lucky enough to go to Italy with my Artist Mom for a week. The artwork was incredible. Of course we went to Accademia Gallery, in Florence to see Michelangelo’s David.
I can not find a photo but there was an unfinished Pieta. The parts that were finished were polished and arising out of the slab of marble.
It was an incredibly powerful piece that I liked better than any of the other incredible art work I saw.
The Accademia is loaded with other artwork that would be prized possessions of any other museum, and no one gives a rat’s ass about any of it because David is there.
Well Mom and I and Dad certainly did. I have a lot of slides and photos I took of all the artwork. No flash allowed in most places but they had just come out with Kodak 400. Using a Shutter Release Cable Cord and leaning against a wall, I could get decent photos with my Nikon. All that photography in caves helped. 🤓

Artists, like the creator of the above sculpture, are seemingly gifted AND inspired by the Lord. So much is lost when people try to tear things of the Lord from the fiber of a society. So much of the Great Art in the world glorifies God, PTL!

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

My approach to the diversity of Christian practice and thought has been to assume good intent despite differences in takes. I think this is especially so after visiting New Orleans, and learning about the odd history of Christian practice there.
I remember the first time I heard about a family I knew having a wake for a dead child, I was horrified (I was too young to be invited, but I knew some who were, who looked old enough to get into the bars.) Took me years to make peace with the idea. It may not be for me, but I can respect it, and wish it well.

And DO NOT get too chummy with any person of the opposite sex for at least a year. MINIMUM!!! Two or three years, better! 😂
My parents were quite literally AGHAST that any of their kids’ friends’ parents would go drinking because somebody in their family died.
I personally find the “wake culture” admirable. I get it. But I was raised to think that it was [fill in the blank] and something “other people” did. I wouldn’t mind at all if people held a wake in my honor. But I’m not even sure I could go to one. And I can honestly say I’ve never been to one – at least that I can remember.

The “new zoning plan” was drawn up to satisfy “climate change requirements”, to “reduce carbon emissions”, to “increase affordable housing”, and to “make the city more walkable, bikeable, and to use public transportation.”
So, here’s a tiny capsule of how this “new zoning plan” will work:
The VERY STREET where Yours Truly lived for 38 years is called Meadowbrook Heights Road. It has nice lots (some are large), has lots of trees, is quiet, and has some very nice houses on it. The street has direct access to US 250 and is about a 5 minute drive from the University of Virginia main grounds.
Meadowbrook Heights Road was zoned “R-A” for decades — single-family use only.
NOW, Meadowbrook Heights Road will be REZONED to “R-B” — for up to 6 – 8 UNITS PER LOT.
The VERY HOUSE AND LOT where Yours Truly lived is going to be rezoned from its current “R-A” status to “R-B.” One wonders what the current owners of the house who bought it from Yours Truly think about this.
Meadowbrook Heights Road is also a “narrow” road for cars. Currently, the only large vehicles allowed on the street are school buses, moving vans, and similar vehicles. NO buses.
Whereas, the streets behind Meadowbrook Heights Road (on both sides) will be left in their current “R-A” zoning designation. (One wonders how much “behind the scenes” pressure was put on the city to accomplish this.)
There are also other places in the city, like certain areas of Rugby Road, that have very large lots and historical-protected houses on them. However, some of THESE areas are ALSO going to be rezoned from their current “R-A” over to the “R-B” zoning.
This kind of “climate change requirements” and “reduce carbon emissions” cr@p, VIA NEW RESIDENTIAL ZONING LAWS, is coming to a LOT more places in the United States.

Images of what appears to be the Daily written brief for the “Russia/Ukraine Joint Staff J3/J4/J5” popped up on the Donbass Devushka yesterday and has not created much of a stir. Donbass Devushka has four of the documents on line. They appear authentic. One is classified as “SECRET/REL TO FIN, UKR, FVEY, NATO” and is date 28 FEB 23. The phrase, “REL TO FIN, UKR, FVEY, NATO” means that this document is available to Finland, Ukraine, the Five Eyes Nations (i.e., Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States) and the members of NATO.

From the information received from KRET JSC and the Central Research Institute of the Aerospace Forces of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, it follows that specialists of these serious organizations were able not only to study the desoldering of ultra-high-frequency APY-8 radar units, but also to determine the energy parameters of its operation, including the reverse synthesized (ISAR) and synthesized (SAR) apertures. And also calculate the noise immunity level and approximate radar resolution based on the data of primary (secondary) conversion devices of the reflected radar signal.
Moreover, they will now be able to calculate the magnification of long-focus devices and devices of the AN/AAS-52 optoelectronic complex: an infrared reticle and a television module. The type or resolution of the matrix photodetectors used in it will also be no secret. I think you revert back to things that fight the effects of the vax/spike proteins or what ever it is we’ll suspect changes with mRNA in our food supply might bring.
Other than the buy produce local thing, we’ll have to go back and list those things again and decide on what are effective amounts and develop various regimens, alt and primary.
Next would be food prep. What if anything neutralizes or destroys if possible these unwanted changes.
Finally once we have more definitive proofs, jump down the throat of our politicians. Demand a clean food supply. Ask why are they blindly accepting this broad use of mRNA in our food supply and remind them they are the change agents dutifully elected keep the public safe.
Demand from them what they know and don’t know and spur them on to learn more and as required do more.
Again we find ourselves going from time tested tried and true methods to jumping off into the unknown because someone whom we don’t even know, haven’t elected etc… says and we know from the vax they f’d that one up and on purpose. Ain’t right. These are huge decisions.
