The pronoun thing is very divisive by design, and people promote it willingly and without a thought about why all of a sudden in the course of human history this is “important,” who might be benefiting from it, who is being harmed by it, and what the possible consequences could be. There is no more accurate description than “useful idiots.”
As soon as you can get people to believe something, regardless of reality (or lack thereof), you can get them to believe anything, indeed get them to disbelieve reality (just look at “Virtual Reality” and “Blended Reality” and all those stupid goggles, etc.).
Once that’s done, total control and actual, often enforced denial of reality and absolute truth are possible, even inevitable. Just as Satan wants…..

One sure way to have problems with weeds in your yard is to let the field grow, and then try to pull the weeds after the fact.
Basically, there are times for pulling weeds but we also have to make sure we’ve properly seeded our yards. Sometimes that means using two different kinds of seeds.
Also, it helps to apply preemergent on the right schedule, and understand what growing zone your site is under the old system.
Truth is much the same: We have to be diligent on the front end if we don’t want a harvest of weeds. If we’re just reactive to a weed infestation, we’ll be behind the eight ball.

That’s what I did.
They were already trying to intimidate / indoctrinate students when I was in college, and I recognized it immediately, because it was a shocking change from high school.
So I came up with a plan.
I would parrot back whatever the professor wanted to hear on the first paper, to get the ‘A’ grade and establish a baseline that I was an ‘A’ student, at least when I agreed with the teacher.
But the second (and all subsequent) papers I let loose on their politically-correct lunacy.
My papers came back with red ink all over them, arguments against me written in the margins, but they always gave me the ‘A’ until my junior year, when a professor gave me a ‘D’ on the second paper, after giving me an ‘A’ on the first.
I went to see her about it and she was nasty, so I went to the Ombudsman. I wasn’t going to accept a ‘D’ for a well written paper, and the only thing ‘wrong’ with it is that I disagreed with my professor’s point of view.
I took both papers to the Ombudsman, and explained what had happened, and that I had made a habit of saying what the teachers wanted to hear on the first paper (and why), and then challenged their point of view after the first paper.
He asked me to sit down while he read both 5-page papers. When he finished, he crossed out the ‘D’ and wrote ‘A’, and signed it.
He said they have had a lot of complaints against that professor and thanked me for bringing it to his attention. He said to take it back to her and tell her to change my grade to an ‘A’, and if she wouldn’t, to tell her that he would do it himself.
She changed it to an ‘A’, and I don’t think she even read my other papers after that, because there were no marks or comments at all on them from that point forward, except for ‘A’ at the top.
One professor told me that although she disagreed with me on just about everything, she looked forward to reading my papers because nearly everyone else just regurgitated whatever she said in class, and it was a slog to grade all those papers repeating the same thing over and over again.
College was a lot more interesting (and entertaining!) challenging my professors than it ever would have been just going through the motions and keeping my head down.
I knew which parts would get under their skin when I was writing the papers, that was half the fun of writing them. Okay, it was ALL the fun. If not for that, writing papers would have been work, it wouldn’t have been any fun at all… 😂
I looked forward to getting every paper back, to see how much I had provoked them (I didn’t know the term ‘triggered’ yet), and to read the comments they wrote all over it.
And it was fun to see them in class the following day, it was always interesting to gauge their reactions, knowing that I got ’em again, knowing that they knew it, and knowing that they knew I knew it 🤣

The topic and mood of the paper had nothing to do with its model. It was just slightly less boring to write it that way.

Thanks RAC! I went to the link and it was in Russian. I don’t speak or read Russian, so I copied the 500 names and went to Google’s Translation where I could tranlate a whole file. So I pasted the text into a Word doc and got the translation in English.
I saw there is a link to the full list of USPersons (USPERs) who are stopped from entering Russia and repeated the translation process. Next, I copied the table list into a new Word file, deleted the first column with numbers and did selective Search/Replace to make the list three columns: Name/Title/Organization. I just finished a first pass at cleaning the 1,344 names. I might want to split the first and last names into separate columns so it is easier to sort by last name though I’ll wait on that step since so many figures are known by their full names.
The next thing I want to do is sort the list by name. I am interested in which organizations Russia is focusing on most, and which ones I can think of who should be on the list but are not. For instance, Barack is on the list but I don’t think John Brennan is on it. Also, I think there are far more US Representatives on the list and just a couple of US Senators.
I love playing with data this way so am glad to find a data set that’s entertaining. 😃

We had a family gathering for a meal yesterday in honor of DIL’s B-day. Later my daughter came inside (we ate out on a huge picnic table hubby fashioned from a repurposed wooden gate in time for Mother’s Day festivities) in order to nurse her one month old baby. Later DIL came inside to also nurse her 11 month old. There I was on the sectional couch sandwiched by nursing mothers & my only grandkids (thus far).
For some reason I felt very blessed that both of these young moms were caring for their offspring using God’s designed gifts in the female body. When I was a nursing mom I don’t recall Ever sitting in a room with another nursing mother, & that included on the peds cardiology floor after Josiah’s heart surgery. Though on that unit there was a breastpump room with curtains to subdivide it for privacy & there could be up to 4 breast pumps going simultaneously, though curtains maintained the fiction of being alone in that mechanically enhanced nourishment acquisition.
Anyway I am thankful for the gift of life & that our kids are so far protecting the grandbabies from most, if not all, shots! God is so good & the joy in both babies’ faces was such a blessing as was the oldest’s laughter & playfulness. Would absolutely love to bottle that joy!

Wow, that’s pretty long from my view. All my kids self weaned except Josiah who was medically taken off my milk post-heart surgery at 2 months because he couldn’t apparently metabolize it per kylous fluid draining from his chest tube. My longest nursing baby went through about 14 months.
My mom was a post-partum RN at the local hospital & taught new mom’s about breastfeeding, bathing, & caring for their new babies. When I was pretty young she used to teach expectant couples birthing techniques, I think it was lamaze, in our home with huge flip charts diagramming the birth process. She was a pretty early proponent of natural childbirth too AND practiced what she preached, to the surprise of her L & D teams for her 3 deliveries in the mid 60’s to 1970 🙂
Yes it is long depending on the child. Some kids need longer than others just as potty training. I know people a Dr wife who nurse until her boy was 4 others 2 and some kids are one. Some women just cannot nurse that long.
BIG PLUS for nursing is that Mom passes on her immunity to the child.
I go to the trouble of catching some of my goat Mom’s when they first birth to get some of the first milk (Colostrum) to freeze in case I have any orphaned or rejected kids or lambs.
I found it was very very important to have that colostrum if I wanted the babies to live.

No tumors, no other issues.
No physical brain damage from the concussion and mild TBI of 2 1/2 years ago.
Some age-related degeneration of the bones in the cervical spine but no disk compression.
Symptoms of occasional dizziness / occasional headaches / balance and gait, appear to fit a diagnosis of Post-Concussion Syndrome. Physical therapy for TBI is ordered.
Care is to be taken to avoid further falls / concussion / TBI.

Some will remember my diatribe about the TN state legislature passing the requirement that the third graders in public schools have to pass the literacy exam on comprehensive exams. Beginning the school year, tests were taken to determine where the kids were. 62% of all third graders in the state failed. So they had all year to improve. In February the teachers in our local schools began sample testing and working on scoring better. They freaked the students, parents and themselves out.
The law requires those failing to go to summer school or be held back and unfortunately involved the GOP supermajority in the state shooting themselves in the feet by passing the law. The tests were given in April and with all of the emphasis, drum roll please, the results improved a grand total of 2%.
The same kids who flunked before as the school year started are the same kids flunking now and are the same kids with A’s and B’s on their grade cards. As I explained then, the problem is the standardized test they use. The state allows multiple curriculums to be taught in all of its public schools. They are teaching the kids different material in different ways than the test covers. It is really that simple.
As a result the GOP supermajority will be threatened in the next elections because the politicians messed with the kids. The good news – parents have already begun pulling their kids out to homeschool and will not be sending them to summer school. They are going to give the idgits the 🖕. The parents are pizzed.
I find it hard to believe a reading test…one just testing whether a kid can read…can be affected by curriculum. Unless the curriculum involves not teaching the kid to read.
It’s not as if they’re being tested on European history and only some of the various curricula (?) cover that. That would be manifestly unfair. But if I understand you, they’re just testing to see if the kids can read. And they can’t.
The methodology used to teach reading, however, can have a big impact. We did not used to have such a huge population of illiterates. We also used to teach phonics.
Teaching methodology is a major part of the problem. I should have stated that instead of “different ways”. And yes, curriculums are very much flexed in TN. such that some lend themselves to simple fact memorization with “stories” that have less facts to remember and/or no thought processes needed to analyze salient points to determine an answer.
One small example of what parents are facing. If you have a child who can read a detailed story in your presence and then answer pertinent questions about the story verbally and in writing, would you agree that child could read and understand that story? The teacher assigns a grade. Could that also be be a potential indicator of future results? The school year goes by and the child continues to successfully do the assignments while making A’s and B’s in the class. The feedback the teacher has received says the child is competently satisfying the requirements.
I have been told by school administrators in our district that one third of those who failed the exam in our district were A and B students. It is not a small sample size and based on the responses, it will get very ugly.

If indeed a child an read a reasonably complex story aloud (one he has never seen before), discuss it intelligently afterwards and even write well about it, he shouldn’t be flunking any sort of reading test.
You’re telling me that A and B students are flunking the test. But an A or B student might not be doing as well as you seem to think they are. Grades get inflated especially when schools come under pressure to improve the students’ performance because too many are flunking. The easiest way to fix that of course is not to try a different method of teaching or fire the incompetent boobs on the faculty but just start awarding higher grades.
I’d need a little bit more information on what “A and B students” means before I can decide whether the test sucks…or the schools have been overselling themselves by inflating grades.

We are essentially on the same page. Our district had a 35% failure rate versus the state’s 60%.

I am happy with Roku but need to have a separate Internet service provider (ISP). I just switched/added Shentel’s DSL which is available to me on the mountain and it is working great compared to Verizon wifi boxes. I did keep one wifi box since my home’s layout means the kitchen TV doesn’t pick up the DSL router’s signal very well. It has to go through two outer walls to reach the family room. I’ll figure out major rearranging later.
That sounds like a lot. We have a disconnect between upstairs and down and 1 half of down vs the other.

If you’re getting sufficient speeds from your ISP, there are a number of things you can do to improve distribution throughout your location, many of which are old school.
As an example, we have Internet coming in through a DSL connection from the POP (Point-Of-Presence) of the POTS line. That’s the place where the telephone company’s wires enter your home, also known as a “demark”. This comes into the top of our coat-closet near the front door on CAT5 wiring.
In the coat closet, it runs into the ISP’s router, where it becomes a phone line and an internet line. The internet is then handed off to the first of our routers, a TP-Link ER605.
Insecure traffic then goes to a Wi-Fi router (second, still in coat closet), that handles Rokus, Kindles, iPads, and the like. Secure traffic is passed back into my “lab” on CAT5 cable, where it goes to our third router.
I have two “spare” routers — one was replaced by the ER605 (which is much faster and has nicer features) and one needs reconfigured as an OpenWRT router before I use it for the first time.
When they say, “put all this stuff next to your computer”, they’re being intentionally misleading.

One of America’s most popular guns is a “ticking time bomb” that allegedly fires spontaneously and has injured dozens of cops.
The SIG Sauer P320 semi-automatic handgun is used by some 1,000 law enforcement agencies from the local to the federal level, as well as being a popular civilian purchase.
But its manufacturer is facing a slew of lawsuits alleging that it can fire even when holstered, even when the trigger isn’t pulled, and even when it is just sitting at rest, lawyers allege.
According to the suits against SIG Sauer, some 150 people claim to have suffered injuries, or frightening near misses, when their department-issued P320 went off on its own.
One law enforcement source told The Post, “The P320 isn’t just a gun, it’s a ticking time bomb.”
And one of the attorneys handling the many cases calls the P320 “America’s most dangerously defective gun.”

That’s new to me, and I don’t understand how a gun can go off when it is sitting at rest. This plays into the anti-gun narrative. I wonder why so many law enforcement agencies use that gun instead of something like the Smith & Wesson Military & Police Pistol.
Yep, surprised NY Post would publish this. It’s clearly a scare story. But maybe new gun buyers might not be aware there is no safety switch. Of course those might be the same people who need to fire the weapon like right there and then and forgot they have it on safe. Ahhh shucks. Now their dead or disarmed. The safeties for this weapon still exist. First no round in the chamber. Second don’t pull the trigger. And yeah, the gun’s not going off by itself without those two things happening.

OK – here are my thoughts.
First of all, I love the old Colt design, with a normal flip safety, and even better with a grip safety (you have to compress the back of the grip to prove there’s a hand on the gun).
I don’t particularly like the Glock design, with no safety available to the user EXCEPT the trigger safety. However, that Glock trigger safety apparently operates three different interventions that would prevent an accidental firing.

I’m presuming this is what the people in the article want SIG SAUER to use on the P320, and are suing to have included.
It’s almost impossible for these guns to go off spontaneously, but there could be some kind of “unusual state” that the gun gets into that can fire spontaneously.
I’m thinking that a dirty or impinged trigger and a dirty slide may get into a state where the trigger doesn’t come forward and the slide doesn’t close completely, and if the slide closes, spontaneously or when pushed, the gun fires from the trigger-back state.
One indication of this may be if people who own P320s ever notice “unanticipated double-taps” with only a single trigger pull. Those incidents might be rare, but they could be occurring through the same mechanism. (Prediction = science!)
Something is weird about these incidents. But there seem to be too many of them for it to be a bogus shakedown.
Just to throw a little background in here…..
Half the pistols you can get anywhere else in the country cannot be purchased in California. This should not be a surprise, in that roughly 10% of merchandise in a Home Depot in North Carolina cannot be purchased in California, and will have large “NOT FOR SALE IN CALIFORNIA” markings. Essentially, anything that evaporates (paints drying), any gas engine, anything that burns fuel (BBQs, patio heaters), a bunch of chemicals, and a bunch of plants and plant products….
The excuse with the pistols is that California has its own safety regimen. For every model (including color variants), the State requires that the manufacturer submit samples for safety testing. This involves loading them with cheap ammo and repeatedly throwing them off the top of a three story building onto rocks. If any fire, or have any other problem (magazine jams), that model flunks.
Now, nobody in their right mind is going to give the gorillas at California Firearm Safety a shot at ruining five $5,000 pistols in order to sell a couple of dozen in the state, so those models don’t pass because nobody makes the effort. Many manufacturers just refuse to play the game, no matter the economics — so those models don’t pass.
Regardless of how, Sig P320’s are not on the California approved list.
