In the judicial system, equity is when monetary compensation just won’t do the job. It’s where you get injunctions compelling performance and such like.
It’s similar to the difference between a civil and a criminal case. In a criminal case, they can incarcerate people.
This one had me furrowing my brow:

Going back to accounting basics, we can refer to one of the great women of accounting — ALICE [sometimes ALCIE]. Assets = Liabilities + Capital + (Income – Expenses). Equity is the sum of Capital and Earnings [AKA Income – Expenses]. If you sell the whole company to another without Liabilities, then you’re selling Assets = Equity. But what a difficult way to say it!
Why not say, “the net value of assets acquired less liabilities assumed upon the purchase of a company”?
Yes! I see it. I like yours better.
Part of the problem is “company sales” can refer to the company selling goods in the normal course of business, but also the outright sale of a company.
And the sale of the company can include “too much” or “too little” money. I simply don’t like such a flimsy definition.

If a company is purchased for “too little” money, it is generally assumed that its assets weren’t worth the amount at which they’d been carried on the acquired company’s books, so they are written down until things balance.
Contrariwise, if a company is purchased for “too much” money, there is a search for what assets may drive this — for instance, if the purchased company had a warehouse that they’d purchased for $100,000 and depreciated by $25,000, but was identical to an adjacent warehouse that had just sold for $275,000….the net book value of the warehouse would get a $200K boost upon acquisition.
After all “excess” amounts are allocated to things you can run out and kick, the remaining amount may be allocated to “Goodwill”, which has been a contentious concept since first introduced. I won’t bother to review the numerous methods for handling goodwill over the last 40 years — there have been several. If I were booking an acquisition today, I’d look up what the rules were currently — they may have been different six months ago and they might change in the next six months.

Reminds me of a friend of mine who had horrible back problems and was contemplating getting an experimental treatment (40+ years ago) which involved getting an enzyme injected into his spine. I asked him what the success rate and failure rate, side effects, etc. were. Among other things, the fatality rate was two percent!
I asked him, do you realize that means that ONE PERSON IN FIFTY DIES from that procedure???

Cara McKinney [OANN] has a little blurb at the end of her show about history. She does a quick dive into something likely never thought about. She recently did one on Memorial Day and attributed its origin to Confederate widows who wanted to reconcile with Yankee widows since they both suffered equally.
In a lot of cases it was brother against brother and relative against relative so that makes sense.
I visited Gettysburg and paid for a guide. (They’re generally locals who have a deep knowledge of Civil War history, and among other things can describe the entire course of the battle pointing to different locations. Combine that with looking at maps beforehand and you get both the big and little pictures.)
There are monuments where every Union unit fought, generally placed within a few decades of the war. However, the (former) Confederates were not allowed to build their monuments on the battle site but rather at the “jumping off” points outside of the actual battlefield.
On the other hand, there was some sort of ceremony/reunion decades later and you actually did see Union and Confederate veterans talking to each other and reconciling. There were even cases of Union vets pushing the wheelchairs of Confederate vets.

Yes! The WP.com dashboard should always give you a notifier, which is their software.
For a while, logging into this site without logging into WP.com would give you a different toolbar – the stock WordPress toolbar. I’m not sure if it still does, or if it gives you the WP.com toolbar anyway.
OK, restarted everything (again) and now it seems to work normally.
I didn’t appear to be logged in for a while there however as soon as I hit login with wordpress, it logged me in (as if it remembered, “oh, he’s logged in.”)
Under the current circumstances is it better to log in to the site or to WP? As I recall a long time ago the site was preferred for privacy reasons, but that’s before the site login didn’t have a working bell.

As Matt’s co-editor Ames once wrote, “we’d be sued out of existence within a few weeks of appearing in any Western democracy, but here in Russia, in the so-called kleptocracy, the power elite has been too busy stealing and killing to give a f**k about us, allowing us to fly around the capital beneath their radar, like a cruise missile. A real democracy would never let us get off the ground.”
Flash forward 20+ years, and after a stint at The Rolling Stone, suddenly over the past few months, Taibbi became a household name here in the USA, culminating with his being the front guy for the release of all that material proving how various U.S. “intel” agencies conspired with Twitter and other social media platforms to censor the news, manipulate public opinion and possibly to influence the outcome of elections, Oh My!

Yours Truly: If one is reading this correctly, it appears that both the COVID-19 virus and the Marburg virus were covered under the PREP ACT as of 9 December 2020, under an “amendment” issued to the original regulation of February 2020. The PREP ACT is still in force today, including the ability of federal health agencies (like the FDA) to grant / extend / amend, EUAs for medical products (like “vaccines”), even though the “COVID-19 Emergency” was “officially ended.”
The PREP ACT specifically exempts certain “Covered Persons” (which includes certain “entities”) from any liability from anything related to the “manufacture, distribution, administration, or use of medical countermeasures (Covered Countermeasures).” This would, of course, include the COVID-19 “vaccines.” The only way to get around this is to prove “willful misconduct.”
The cited notice per the Latypova article was published in the Federal Register on 9 December 2020.
The first EUA for a COVID-19 “vaccine”, granted by the FDA to Pfizer-BioNTech, was on 11 December 2020.

The notifier is working, but you have to LOG OUT, and then “Log in With WordPress”.
Here’s what to do:
Yep matches my recent experience.
My current configuration is to have a “disposable template” that is set up to automatically go to this site. Cookies for this site (and a few others entangled with it) are whitelisted, but nothing else. (The disposable template is in turn based on a template that has a precanned, customized firefox on it.)
I run that template and log in. I then immediately close the browser and shut down the template. It now remembers I am logged in. I never run the disp-template again unless I get kicked out; conversely if I re-create that disp-template I must run it again to log in since otherwise it’s lobotomized.
I from that point forward run disposables that basically copy the disposable template, every time. So every time I run one of them, it should be as if I had never done anything before but gone to QTree, logged in, then shut down the browser.
It can be hard to tell after the fact how you logged in (wordpress or site), so I basically rebuilt the disposable template, logged into the site, shutdown, started the disposable–I was correctly logged in but the notifier sat and spun.
Regenerate the disposable template, run it, log in through wordpress, shutdown, start the disposable…I am correctly logged in and the notifier works.

Part of the issue is that what I described only makes sense on QubesOS. Unless you are also on QubesOS…there’s no way you could do the same thing even if you understood it (and if you were on QubesOS you might actually understand it).

Some of you may have noted that I was talking about a Peter Gabriel tour and lamenting the exorbitant costs and difficulties.
Well, I found an alternative to $400 seats, a weekday trip to San Francisco to dodge the felons, feces, and mentally ill, an overnight stay at probably $200+, and the Fiancee taking time off of work.
It involves $105 (better) seats, a cleaner city, a smaller venue, an overnight stay at $100, and it’s all on a weekend.
One slight issue…..it’s in Palm Springs.
Thing that took the most time was getting the Fiancee on board. On Friday, I drive down to Ontario, CA and doss somewhere cheap. On Saturday, Fiancee flies from San Jose to Ontario, using frequent flier miles. I pick her up at the Ontario airport, drive another hour and a half to Palm Springs, and check into our hotel. We go have dinner, then go to the show. After the show, we go back to the hotel, then drive back to our house on Sunday. Easy-peasy, and we both end up going for about the price one of us could have paid in SF.
