There are 2 numbers, identical except for the sixth numeral. I always thought it was strange for them to not follow the order in the constitution, where the House is dealt with first in Article 1 and the Senate is second. Maybe they went with the order in section 1.

I am confident they are forbidden to follow an unlawful order.
Any POTUS who openly and blatantly stole an election in order to steal the Executive Branch is not a lawful POTUS and therefore can give no lawful order.
Besides all that, if the oath doesn’t mean what it plainly says it means, they should eliminate the parts of the oath that don’t mean what they clearly say, and that they won’t be following anyway.
True that they say no one should follow an illegal order.
But…
I can only imagine what happens, short term, to a soldier who refuses an order and insists its illegal. He probably gets brought up on insubordination charges at the very least. Then he likely has to prove the order was illegal (yes, that’s the burden of proof on the defendant). And IF he makes it stick, and gets out of the charge of insubordination, I’m sure his career is finished anyway, because very few COs will want someone who successfully defied an order.
Now if someone with actual military experience has experience to the contrary about what actually happens (not what the regs say should happen) to a serviceman who insists an order is illegal…please chime in.
I wouldn’t expect anyone from OUR military to refuse an order from a criminal commanding officer unless they are ready to do what Egypt or Myanmar did.

Enough to last at least 5 years.
If the clusterfark of our country isn’t resolved by DJT by then, not having a decent light bulb will be the least of our concerns.
Yes, all the way back in 2010. Then he had to walk it back. But by 2014, the government was issuing “regulations” for the emission of wattage and other things from light bulbs, so the LED / quasi fluorescent stuff began hitting the shelves all over the place. Then the “Biden administration” issued the ban on the sale of incandescent light bulbs this summer.
LED and fluorescents are causing a lot of damage. I can’t be under them for long due to a visual perception disorder.
It also screws up the sleep cycle. The racing industry uses BLUE LIGHT to bring mares into heat during the winter.

The light curve that LEDs produce, along with high-frequency “fluttering” (sometimes not so high, as well) caused by crappy PWM supplies and dimmers is VERY problematic, especially to sensitive folks (and can even trigger seizures).
The stroboscopic effect from LEDs (and fluorescents) can be a dangerous problem with power tools as well, as it makes the blades/rotors/etc. seem still. Always have an incandescent in the workshop if there are LEDs or fluorescents there…

He has lots of good suggestions in that article, although he got the 100-year lightbulb in a firehouse wrong: it’s in Livermore, CA (stupid me, we lived there for a couple of years and never went to see it… sigh). If you’re in the area, it’s a piece of history worth seeing…
Over here I did a “hamster kauf” of a couple of hundred bulbs of various wattages (100,75,60,40, and even 25) and types (clear, frosted, frosted globes of different sizes).
As the EU banned this stuff years ago…
What I do is put as much as I can on dimmers, using larger wattages than I normally would, dimmed down 10-20 percent (sometimes 50 percent). The bulbs last forever that way. With 10 percent dimmer, the bulb life goes up by a factor of 10 (it seems). The efficiency, of course, goes down, but it’s a fair trade. And the slightly dimmed lights are warmer color-wise, so that’s an added bonus. And GangGreenGreta can go whistle…
And we just keep taking it.

I’ve become so disillusioned by this I could scream. The turning point for my complete despair came when a certain fairly well-known tea partier, in the midst of his talk to our tea party on the constitution, used the d word.
It was at that point I decided the battle was hopeless.

The problem is that “Democracy” in this sense is a very specific thing, one man, one vote, every issue, no contraints. So the complaint is that the term is being misapplied to describe something that isn’t that.
Whereas a “republic” literally is any form of government that doesn’t have a monarch. The USSR was a republic. So are all those “banana republics.”
But we are invited to imagine that the founders wanted a republic (and yes, even by the founders themselves, cf. Ben Franklin). And that makes sense. They’d just gone through a lot of effort to get rid of a monarcy.
But then, you have to ask: Well, what KIND of republic?
Nothing about the word “Republic” all by itself implies protection of natural rights or even a constitution, yet we in the “right” side of American politics act as if it does. The problem is we don’t have a single word that means all of this…so we insist on (mis)using “republic” for it. And others will misuse “democracy” for it.
So we bitch about “democracy” being misused on things that have rule by the people but not absolute unconstrained rule by the people…but then we somehow insist a “republic” should mean something a lot more specific than it does.

I literally mean to say the Israeli government actively and directly participated in creating and propping up Hamas in the service of its own political machinations.
Straight from the horse’s mouth, here’s how Netanyahu schemed behind the scenes for years to promote the terrorist group he now publicly decries and postures as the savior from.

On learning that Netanyahu told his comrades this, one might ask obvious questions: Why would Netanyahu be interested in keeping Palestine balkanized politically? Especially when all the government publicly proclaims to desire is peace with its Arab neighbors? Wouldn’t a stable Palestinian state not obsessed with annihilating the Jews serve those purported Israeli interests?
Well, a non-militant Palestinian state might serve the interests of an average Israeli living in a village on the border of Gaza, but not Netanyahu’s interests nor those of the base of fanatical religious warmongers he caters to.
Keeping Hamas alive and well-funded, as Netanyahu explicitly called for, creates permanent instability. Instability, in turn, lends itself to either active war or the constant threat of war, not peace. And war is the health of the Israeli state.
If peace broke out in the Middle East, creatures like Netanyahu would be liable to suddenly find themselves out of a job. They might have to make an honest day’s living for once in their miserable lives.
Netanyahu feeds politically off of endless conflict with Israel’s regional rivals. War breathes life into his otherwise listless and deflated political ideology. What other ideas for governance has this warmonger ever had except more war?
In the immediate term, war furthermore keeps him out of jail for the time being, as he was under serious, career-threatening legal scrutiny for corruption allegations at the time of the Hamas attack. Now, as the Israeli citizenry “rallies around the flag,” the nation temporarily forgoes internal political conflict.

Netanyahu and the self-styled Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, are two peas in a pod in this regard. War is the health of their respective states, and they and their parties are the primary beneficiaries. In fact, in much the same way that there is no way Israeli intelligence was unaware of impending Hamas attacks, I wouldn’t be shocked to learn that Netanyahu and Khamenei are coordinating behind the scenes to see if they can’t finagle a potentially apocalyptic regional, if not global, war out of the current mess – and, again, if possible, drag the United States, Russia, and God knows what other states into it in the process.

Many people living quiet lives in New York City died as a result, but the American neocons got a whole fresh set of wars out of the deal, with fresh license to kill more poor people overseas. Raytheon and Boeing stocks went through the roof. The Middle East was further destabilized, giving rise to ISIS, a failed state in Libya, and guaranteeing future war.
And around and around we go, pretending as if the vaunted statesmen who start wars for a living are anything other than bloodthirsty warmongers playing geopolitical chess with other people’s children.

What they don’t bargain for is that many people can have major emotional reactions without acting out on them. That’s a component of knowledge and emotional maturity. People can also be highly affected emotionally while being aware of their adversaries’ intentions, preventing them from falling in with the schemes against them. This has been happening for years with people on the Right. For the most part, we don’t get goaded into physical fighting and we don’t “go off” and take rash and deadly actions. I think this is a major source of frustration for the Left.
IMO, trying to get people to not have emotional responses is counterproductive. Emotion, in addition to knowledge, fuels the will to enact change. I believe it is one reason why the Left wants to curb patriotism and pride in our history and our country.
The problem with emotional responses is that it cuts off your reasoning skills. So your best move is to let out the emotion AND THEN use the analytical part of your brain. 24-48 hour Rule applies. 😎

But Bin Salman delivered an unmistakable message — the United States is not a priority and is not taken seriously.

The Saudis realize that the United States, while still capable of projecting some military force in the region, is weak and not to be trusted. Enter China and Russia. These two countries are providing a rally point for the Arab and Muslim world. India’s retired diplomat, M. K. Russia reportedly is in talks with Turkey about assembling a humanitarian resupply mission with the Russian Navy providing security for a maritime delivery at Gaza’s ports. As the images of Palestinian casualties flood social media, pressure for a humanitarian mission will grow. Which brings me to the U.S. Carrier Battle Groups being deployed to the Mediterranean Sea. If the U.S. and Israel try to block the Gazan ports, this raises the risk of a direct conflict between Russia and the United States. Putting two of the eleven U.S. aircraft carriers in the Mediterranean is a dangerous move by Joe Biden. I’ve been wondering when the Marines would show up on the scene with with their amphibious assault group. At the risk of coming across as being crazy (too late?), I think at some point in the near future the Marines will come ashore at the north end of the Gaza Strip and establish a demilitarized zone between Israel and Gaza.
That would be after the U.N. invokes their Responsibility To Protect doctrine for the Gaza Strip, and a no-fly zone to prevent the IDF from bombing Gaza. The two carrier strike groups would enforce the no-fly zone.
Remember who the people are that make the policy decisions in the U.S. government and military.

Limited war is a form of warfare constrained by the exercise of deliberate restraint in the application of force and the pursuit of political-military goals that exclude annihilation. In Ukraine, all sides shared an interest in avoiding the use of nuclear weapons, and contrary to the Western narrative, Moscow’s goals were arguably confined to the destruction of hostile Ukrainian forces (“denazification”) and the establishment of a neutral Ukrainian state.
In the Middle East, the situation is very different. When Hamas fighters attacked Israel’s heavily fortified border at daybreak on October 7, the first wave of roughly 1,000 fighters advanced behind a curtain of rocket fire using motorcycles, pickup trucks, paragliders, and speed boats, Israeli forces were surprised. Ali Baraka, a senior Hamas official, said in an interview on October 8, “We made them think that Hamas was busy with governing Gaza, and that it wanted to focus on the 2.5 million Palestinians [in Gaza] and has abandoned the resistance altogether.”
In the days that followed, 3,000 fighters, including an unknown number from the Palestine Islamic Jihad (PIJ), penetrated Israeli territory, killing at least 1,300 Israelis and wounding approximately 3,500. Subsequent cross-border raids into Gaza revealed that some of the Israelis who were kidnapped were executed after entering Gaza.
The speed, coordination, and effectiveness of the Hamas operation was unexpected, but the horrific damage the Hamas fighters inflicted on Israel’s population was not surprising. Hamas exists for one purpose: to terrorize and kill Jews with the goal of destroying the State of Israel.
In response, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared war and mobilized 360,000 reservists to form an army of between 470,000 and 500,000. Netanyahu is obviously determined to impart a lasting object lesson, one that will crush Hamas in Gaza and probably eliminate any more talk inside the Palestinian population of a “two-state solution.” Having already pulverized Gaza from the air, the stage is now set for a battle of annihilation. The question is: whose annihilation?
Israeli rage is justified and widely shared by Americans. Like the Israelis, Americans are inclined to see terrorism through the lens of 19th-century piracy: “no quarter given, none expected.” In this total war setting, the Geneva Convention cannot apply to Hamas’s terrorist forces. But how long can the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) wage total war, depriving Gaza’s Arab population of food and water, without creating an enormous humanitarian disaster that will play for years in the news?
Can Hamas and its leadership be destroyed without killing large numbers of civilians who may hate the Israelis but have nothing to do with Hamas? Does it not serve Hamas’s purpose for the IDF to become bogged down in an open-ended, full-scale ground invasion of Gaza because the urban conflict will unavoidably entail loss of innocent life? Does it not seem ominous that Hamas is urging the population of Northern Gaza to remain in the ruins of the city?
Americans stand behind Israel, but many are unconvinced that killing more Arabs in Gaza will solve Israel’s security problem. Americans also have doubts about the Israeli government’s ultranationalist officials, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. These men are widely seen as emboldening Jewish extremists.
These questions and concerns may explain why Israel is rushing to carry the war into Gaza. If Russian forces arrive to help Egypt and Turkey establish a humanitarian corridor, there will be Russian and Turkish troops in Gaza to defend the distribution of humanitarian aid. Outpacing the arrival of Russians, Turks, and Egyptians makes sense.
These points notwithstanding, the Middle East today is very different from the Middle East in 1973. Technologies have altered the conduct of warfare, but more importantly, the societies and states of the Islamic world have also changed. Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Iran, and Turkey are different in character from what they were in the 1970s. None of the states bordering Israel will tolerate population shifts that introduce large numbers of Palestinian Arabs into their societies. Europeans want them even less.
Iran’s national leaders have already called on Islamic and Arab countries to form a united front against Israel, but Iran’s influence in these matters is more limited than most Americans realize. Iranian military power is largely restricted to Iran’s use of proxy militias like Hezbollah and their cooperation with the Pasdaran, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Iran is simply incapable of adding high-end conventional military forces to such a front. Tehran’s government also knows that the use of Iran’s formidable theater ballistic missile force against Israel risks almost certain Israeli nuclear retaliation.
The governments of Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, and Lebanon are very probably opposed to a general war against Israel, but their enraged populations could easily trap them into doing so. Scenes of celebration across the Middle East showing people waving Palestinian and Hamas flags, dancing, and singing in the streets are being shared on social media.
Turkey’s President Erdogan has offered to mediate between Hamas and Israel, but Erdoğan himself has warned that the war won’t just stop “in a week or two.” However, Turkey, a nation of more than 80 million, is the one actor in the region with the societal cohesion, martial culture, and military power to lead the Sunni Arab states in a confrontation with Israel.
In a regional war, Turkey can field large armies and air forces equipped with modern weapons, manned by disciplined and determined fighters. The advent of a regional Sunni Muslim alliance guided by Ankara and financed by Qatar resurrects the specter of advanced conventional warfare for the IDF, a form of warfare known to only a few of today’s IDF leaders.
Sadly, the region has not advanced much beyond the conditions described by Ramsay MacDonald, Britain’s Prime Minister in 1924 and again from 1929 to 1931:

With American offshore naval power, Washington is certainly poised to stumble into the conflict if it widens, but the use of American naval power will not end it. Although it is distasteful to the ruling political class in Washington, the Biden administration should consider taking the lead in supporting a ceasefire, even if it means cooperating with the Turks, Egyptians, and Russians to secure the arrival of humanitarian aid.
In Ukraine, Washington underestimated Russian resolve and military power. Washington should not repeat this mistake by underestimating the potential for a regional Muslim alliance that could threaten Israel’s existence. The possibility that Israel could end up like Ukraine should not be discounted.

PAVACA, I’m on page 54 of your book, Imagination-Building, and am enjoying it a lot. Dr. Forbes was such a sweet person and I love that sometimes he uses words I have not heard in a long time. For instance, “shanty” was what we called a tiny restaurant in a train car by the old train station. Shanties made wonderful pork tenderloin sandwiches that were huge. yummm… He remembers so many names of people near where he grew up. When I’m reading the book, I don’t want to stop. hehe…

This evening, my cousin asked what did our grandparents do to stay busy when they got old (like us). Memory: Mom decided she wanted those cute little guest soaps for her bathroom to put into a milk glass compote. I looked at various stores and found none premade. She had made cream cheese mints years before using rubber molds. So I got her some new molds and sent soap and fragrance from the craft shop. One afternoon, she made the soaps and set them on the counter to dry on top of waxed paper. My older brother and his son Isaac stopped by and came in the back kitchen door while Mom was in another room. There were these pretty “mints” on the counter. They each popped one into their mouth and got a soapy surprise. Mom and I laughed and laughed until I’m certain her face turned red and our eyes watered. I know… not funny… it was funnier because Mom was such a great cook and even though it had probably been 10+ years since she made cream cheese mints in pretty little molds… one just never knew. Now, I’m having a hankering for some tiny seasonal soaps made in little rubber molds for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. hehe
Back in the good old Uni days I had an RA (resident advisor) who from time to time partook of the “green stuff” and would have the munchies afterwards…..
As it turns out, my Mom had sent me, as a joke, a package of four “chocolates” which looked, smelled, and felt like the real thing.
Despite being 100% plastic (or something – better living through chemicals and all that)…

Soooo, one evening, my RA knocked on the door, DESPERATE for some snack, or something to relieve his hard-earned hunger…

I just came to the part about there being 8 new glioblastoma cancer cases on the schedule. I had wondered how common it was because someone I had peripheral contact with last year just died of it. I didn’t know her but knew of her. She was a woman in her late 60s, I think. I have no clue about her vax status, but if I had to guess I would bet she was vaxed. I think she passed within a couple of months of diagnosis.
The glioblastoma patients in the article ranged in age from 8 to 52. There was another report of a glioblastoma patient who had been vaxed and boosted. IMO it is significant that the health care workers were making note of this.

The info they contain is chilling. This Part 5 reports on how hospitals here and in the UK were not correctly nothing that patients were vaxed in order to hide the incriminating data. That is medical malpractice.
