I see that every day in my cancer group. There are many young people who suddenly out of the blue have Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, and Stage 4 colon cancer, and Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, and on and on. There was even a young pregnant mother who was told by her doctor she needed to abort her child so they could do radiation. It’s just really, really heartbreaking.

I think it was about a month ago that the subject of Latin Mass was brought up. I posted the entire passage from God’s Word showing definitively that using a language that no one understands during worship is not to be done.
Not one single person argued the point after the passage was posted. For the usual reason, i.e., it’s really hard to beat God’s Word in an argument, when it’s right there in black and white and staring you in the face.
So was that the end of it?
Was anyone’s mind changed?
Not at all, not even in the slightest.
Just a couple days ago, the subject was raised again, and it was as if the previous discussion never took place.
The WORD OF GOD doesn’t matter, it didn’t change anyone’s viewpoint.
And if the Word of God doesn’t make any difference to people, then what chance do the words of men have?
None.
The answer is none.
We’re no different in that regard from all the people we mock.
We’re just like them.
We believe whatever we want to believe, and we don’t care what the truth is, we don’t care what the evidence says, we don’t care about rational argument, none of it. We just use those things as props to support what we already believe, or what we want to believe.
And if these things don’t mean anything to us, what are the chances they will mean anything to some Leftard? 😂
There are multiple reasons that I can think of for this. One that I will not delve into is that there are other ways to look at the situation than the one you present, even though it seems clear from things you’ve said that you believe yours is the only correct way by which to judge such matters. I say that without ill will or rancor; just being factual.

The subject of oral tradition is very deep, and I’m quite sure that discussing it in a forum like this would not change your mind either. So “we believe whatever we want to believe, and we don’t care what the truth is, we don’t care what the evidence says, we don’t care about rational argument, none of it” also applies to your own beliefs.
Another reason people might not have entered into that discussion is that they don’t want to get into debates about religion here. I certainly don’t. From what I’ve seen in my own experience, and from what a number of people have said here, it’s clear that there are a lot of hurting people who have had negative experiences due to the sinfulness of mankind. Adding fuel to that fire is not something I want to do, nor do I want to bring that kind of stress and strife here. Each person will find their own way and, for some, their own path to healing and faith. Protracted discussions about religious practices provide obstacles to that process. Sometimes people just need to step back and find peace.

Apparently a Latin mass is generally about an hour long, and apparently a typical speaking voice is about 130 words per minute, which works out to about 7,800 words.
So not quite the 10,000 mark, but certainly in the ballpark.
But it doesn’t matter what I think about it (except to me, of course), what matters is what you think about it.
Because on Judgment Day, if the Lord asks you to explain why you argued for a Latin Mass, you’re the one who is going to have to give an answer, not me.
There’s a lot less pressure here than there will be there. So pretend like this is a dress rehearsal, and give it your best shot.

For me, this is a moot point. I only speak English and I don’t attend foreign-language speaking services where I might not understand the Word of God. There is a lot going on in the world right now, so I leave subjects like this one to people who need/want to discuss it.

Well, sorry, but Latin is not an “unknown tongue,” just because you don’t know it. It is a language one can learn; my DH has been learning Latin for years. “Some man” understands Latin.
If you are in a church where you don’t know the language and you are uncomfortable, find another church.
You probably don’t speak Swahili. If you were at a church where that language was being spoken, would you think the service invalid?
An “unknown tongue” in the Biblical sense is not an Earthly language. If you’ve ever been in the presence of one actually “speaking in tongues” you would know, you are not in the presence of something of this Earth.
This is where the confusion lies.

Absolutely correct that Paul disapproved of the ‘speaking in tongues’ displays that can be seen even today in some churches of the black persuasion.
To me, they resembled a bunch of females carrying on as if they were possessed. They called it possessed by the Holy Spirit but I knew it wasn’t biblical, thanks to these verses.
Lol. I call myself a boundless font of mostly useless knowledge. But some things come in handy. I was steeped in the Bible early on. When I finally found my way back to church, I found that a lot of my early exposure had stuck.

No need to apologize! I only speak for myself when I say that I’m not going to get into it. I knew exactly what would happen, and to a large extent what would be said and how my own words would be viewed exclusively through a very narrow prism to the point where they would be distorted to fit within it. False words and concepts were even attributed to me. Not a polite, “It looks as if you’re saying this. Is that what you meant?” No, just assumptions about what I said, with words being placed in my mouth. That leads to endless back and forth about “that’s not what I said or meant” and more twisting and attempts to convince, often based on assumptions and mistaken ideas that would have to be refuted in order to have an honest discussion, so I’m not engaging in it. If you want to take it on, have at it. 🙂

I react badly to what Scott was writing because of my life experiences. It comes across to me like it is a pushy attempt to control others. I had an ex who would do this rarely. It never turned out well, even (or perhaps especially) if I relented and agreed to “obey” his demand of the moment. With the ex, it felt like it was just suddenly all important for him to be right, to prove me wrong, and moreover, to get me to concede. If I did concede and do what he demanded in spite of my own judgment, bad things happened. I never said “I told you so.” after one of these events. I doubt that Scott sees his own statements in that light. It is just how I react to this kind of kerfuffle.

My faith, such as it is, requires me to sew seeds for Jesus. And the seed is His Word. Nothing is required of imperfect me, just attempting to understand what the Bible says, and the willingness to share it.
The forceful push of a misunderstanding of what the Word says ran me out of church not once, but twice in my life. No one should feel like something is being forced on them. It’s self-evident that Scripture can be seen in many lights and read in different ways, otherwise all churches would be the same.
In this case, however, the Scripture being quoted is very clear, it’s the interpretation that is demonstrably wrong. Latin is not an “unknown” tongue, as the Scriptures are referring to. It’s just that Scott doesn’t know Latin. It’s unknown to him. But I doubt he speaks Mandarin Chinese or Urdu, either.

Yes, thank you for explaining your knowledge of the Bible’s meaning, Aubergine! It helps all of us who are not as familiar. It’s a group chat and impacts all readers even those who just skim past it trying to avoid the kerfuffle. The only encounter I’ve had with Latin was that my cousin married and converted to Catholicism. His sister became a nun. At their wedding my cousin and her hubby had a Latin mass. I thought it was beautiful though I did not know what the words meant. I certainly got the sense of it and was very glad to be there.
As a side note, it almost certainly wasn’t pronounced the way someone like Julius Caesar would have pronounced it. (And OBTW he was the “pontifex maximus” at least once in his life…that’s now a title given to the pope.)
The famous Julius Caesar quote “veni, vidi, vici” (I came, I saw, I conquered) is a case in point. Unless I am greatly mistaken, the church would pronounce it “venny, veedy, veechee”. Linguists however have analyzed hints in anchient texts and determened the Latin V was probably pronounced like a W, and the C is probably like a K. So we get, “Wenny, weedy, weeky”

Why not? Italian is pronounced pretty much the same way. Proto-Indo-European was pronounced like Church Latin, not the IPA sheet we were all forced to learn along with Germanic Latin that sounds just dreadful in chant.
Italian might be pronounced that way now, but that’s no guarantee it (or its ancestor Latin) was pronounced the same way.
English pronunciation has changed greatly (especially the vowels) and Greek pronunciation has changed markedly too.
There are clues to indicate the same thing happened to Latin; manuscripts that describe pronunciations makes it clear it has changed.
Actually linguists continue to argue over Proto Indo European, particularly the vowel sounds. We’re dealing with an additional difficulty there, because PIE was never written down–we’re having to take an educated stab based on the sounds in PIE’s descendant languages and the rules that seem to govern sound changes. (a t might become a d, it’s unlikely to become a k). On the other hand, the lack of writing is a bonus, because we can assign standard symbols to our reconstructions. One doesn’t have to wonder if they should read it according to (say) the Polish spelling conventions.
Looking at wikipedia (which probably hasn’t been polluted on this subject) the vowel set doesn’t appear to include /i/ or /u/ (as pronounced in Italian) but there are long and short e and o (and here long literally means long, not a shift to another sound like it does in English). The only fricatives are s and three sounds similar to h in being from the back of the throat, but they don’t know exactly what they are. No v, f, th, z, etc.
There are phonemic distinctions between aspirated and non-aspirated stops (something it has in common with many of the descendant languages in India, but we do NOT have in most European languages), as well as between voiced and unvoiced stops (as in most European languages).
Though many of the sounds are in common, many are not and I doubt it would sound very much like Latin (either pronunciation) at all.

My ancestors in Spain spoke a dialect that was closer to Latin than modern Spanish, which isn’t that far off of Latin. Where did that come from in remote Spain?
Modern Spanish, and French, and Italian, and even Romanian (plus all dialects thereof) all developed from Latin. Yet they are mutually incomprehensible. They are different languages with different pronunciations.

They’re not completely incomprehensible. You can use Spanish in Portugal or Italy and get by — you just sound weird.
But then some of the Italian “dialects” probably ought to be considered separate languages.
Modern standard Italian is basically the Florentine variety (with some changes). I knew people whose parents were from different parts of italy; the only common ground they had was standard Italian, and that’s what their kids learned. The kids were never able to make heads or tails of Sicilliano or other dialects when they were exposed to them.
Over in Scandinavia, Danish/Norwegian/Swedish really ought to be considered dialects, not separate languages because they are mutually intelligible. They’re considered separate languages usually simply because they are different countries. Icelandic is very different though…and it happens to be the least changed from the old language; in essence they still speak Viking there.
And how close of all of it to Greek?
Took a class in college that was Greek and Latin in English. A lot of Latin is Greek spelled differently.
Yes, because the Greeks influenced the culture via their colonies in southern Italy and of course once Greece was conquered educated Romans largely immersed themselves in Greek culture.
A lot of our words are Latin and Greek.

In my understanding, speaking in “tongues” was never just some other earthly language, but some uncontrolled outburst.
For a time, my brother and SIL went from wild childs to Holiness because they felt it would save their marriage. I never attended, but do some Holiness church people speak in tongues? I could ask my brother about it. We enjoy chatting and I don’t think he would freak if I asked. For years now, they have gone to the Baptist Church which is much more like Methodist where my brother and I were raised.

I recall reading somewhere that the tongue-speaker never actually uses sounds not in their own native language.
Since very few languages do NOT have sounds that aren’t present in English, that indicates to me they’re not actually speaking in some bona-fide foreign tong but rather just babbling.
I have heard, and know others who have heard, speaking in tongues that is clearly not any human language. It is weird, sibilant, almost hissing. It made me very uncomfortable to hear it. Others I know say the same.
My minor experience with it was someone babbling in a rhythm that reminded me (at the time) of some language from Africa or the Middle East. But there were literally no strange sounds in it, just fewer sounds than English (which tends to have more fricatives and vowel sounds than average, but there are languages that wipe the floor with us as far as size of the phonemic inventory goes).

According to Strong’s Concordance, the word for tongues in the original Greek, Γλώσσα, glossa (pronounced gloce-sah’) means “the tongue;” by implication a language (specifically one not acquired naturally).
But it is of note that the hearers heard their native language, no matter what came from the mouth of the speakers.
In the Pentecostal churches of the South, it is pretty common for someone to speak in a “tongue” that is not a known language. As long as someone present “understands,” this is permitted. I must admit it made me very uncomfortable when I experienced it.

We ladies have been so gaslit on getting annual checks pouring radiation through fatty breast tissue – that the inventor of the mammogram himself said would be deadly – that within a week that advisory to not have them without cause before the age of fifty was reversed. As it is, a lot of breast cancer shows up about six months after a mammogram. Go figure.
It’s all about using fear to control behavior, and it’s disgusting.
I always believed that a malfunctioning mammogram machine caused my mom to get breast cancer later. I did not count how long between the exam and the cancer took place. Mom said they left her connected to the machine and the technician left the room for perhaps 20 minutes. Due to my mom’s experience, I have never had a mammogram and never will. Other than mom’s experience, breast cancer does not run in our family.
once my mom started to get mammograms, she would get a call from her doc telling her she saw some suspicious areas and my mom would worry and be upset for weeks before they did a ultra sound or whatever and determined it was dense breast tissue they were seeing not lumps or tumors. this went on for years! finally she switched docs and after the first suspicious report and subsequent findings of dense tissue, he inserted markers under her skin that could be seen in the tests so she didn’t have to worry herself constantly.

I commend the second doctor for alleviating the problem the first time he discovered it. but why didn’t her first doctor realize the solution after the second time it happened, let alone the third, fourth or fifth time?
As far as being informed, I had a LOT of help from the Q Tree about not trusting doctors until I had all the facts. And our discussions about ivermectin and fenbendazole, both huge parts of my protocol.
I really feel for what your mom went through. I have dense breast tissue also. But after they first found what they thought might be a problem, they sent me over to get an ultrasound. I really think they should do all breast exams with ultrasound, not mammograms. We don’t need all that radiation, especially if we do have cancer.
my doctor asked me once why i was reluctant to get a mammogram and i told him the story of my mom. he said but that’s her–what makes you think it applies to you. I said I grew these (pointing at my chest) when i was 9. every time i have lost weight, they have never once decreased in size. I lost 35 pounds a few years ago–didn’t go down a bra size at all. his eyebrows went up. it’s dense tissue. he agreed.
Thermography is an alternative to mammograms. Some here might know more about it.
I’ve heard that thermography is a great way to do breast exams. No radiation is a huge plus. The problem is finding somewhere to get it done. I’ve also found out that there is a company called HerScan that does breast ultrasound exams all over the country for a cost less than $300. They have a site where you can check to see when they’re in your area and schedule an exam. Ultrasound is a much less intrusive way to examine a person for cancer.
Wow thanks for the tip. I always get a call about needing a follow up ultrasound since we got the 3D imaging locally. I really like my radiologist and the techs, and I wish everyone were as lucky.

I’m doing pretty well, Wolf. I’m not back to normal yet, but I’m getting there. I’m a little frustrated at the things I can’t do yet. I have leaves all over the place in my front yard I can’t go out and rake up yet, and my back yard is a mess from the last storm. And my house needs a good vacuuming. But I’ll get there and get it done once I’m finished healing. At least I’ve been able to get out and walk my dog every day. I’ve needed the exercise. I see my surgeon again on the 5th. Hopefully she can give me some insight about the numbness in my arm and I can get back to normal.

If you can, it would be okay to get someone to do a fall cleanup of your leaves. I started doing that once I moved to the mountain. I had visions of me holding onto the handles of the mower while it flies down the mountain with me attached, feet flying out behind or backing it out of the store room close to a steep ravine and going backwards down the ravine. LOL
Yikes! Don’t do that, Barb. Yes, I may just break down and get someone else to do it. But I actually like doing those things, so I’ve been putting it off.
I know it is good to keep doing all we enjoy but this fall, you’re making sure you heal fully. You can always do it again next fall and then, there will be snow to shovel soon too. I’m still shoveling snow with a shovel here. I just do it in shorter stints and take breaks to warm up after I shovel for about 5 or 10 minutes. It doesn’t sound like much but the snow plows push up mounds by the entry that have salt in them so that snow is pretty heavy.

It has been the most sickening thing we have experienced in some years as we watch so many die or be injured around us for simply trusting their government to tell them the truth and look out for their best interests.
I do not want to bring extra sorrow to my friends on here. But a lot of folks we have known well for decades are slowly dying due to the devil’s jabs.
My hairdresser and the gal who does waxing in the salon say the same thing. They’re watching their clients go downhill. They know what’s causing it. I’m sort of surprised that he never got jabbed considering the sort of hypochondriac he is, but not that she didn’t. It’s amazing what hairdressers hear from people in their chairs.
My wife’s hairdresser says the exact same thing. She refused to taken them, sees things as we do on here.
I stopped in to tell them the news when my mom was in the hospital. T was in tears. This is a six foot black guy, widowed with two daughters, and I thought he was going to break down. The day she died, I had a waxing appointment (had to look good when the relatives showed up, and we saw all sorts of old friends), and they held up other appointments for hugs, etc. Then, I’m laying back in the chair and D starts. She’s just beyond herself furious.
Oh my gosh, DePat. I had not thought about the changes our hairdressers must be seeing in their clients. It must be hard for them to stay positive sometimes.
They are seeing it, and unless I miss my guess, this may have been the reason another member of the team left. They wouldn’t get jabbed.
Yes. Sometimes I remind myself that the accelerated decline of others that I am seeing is also seen and recognized by others. Those declining may not see it themselves because it’s so close to what they see every day. It was like that when my Dad died. I was still so busy trying to help him get better right up until he was gone. I even asked the undertaker if I could help him more when he came to take Dad to the mortuary. I would have carried my dad the few blocks if he had asked me. Loved my dear Dad so.
My sister and I went to visit a shut-in relative on Sunday. He’s taken every shot – so has his wife – and he catches everything. Her, not so much. Their kids are done with it all, for which I am grateful.

Additionally, Smith demanded Twitter data on “all lists of Twitter users who have favorited or retweeted tweets posted by [Trump], as well as all tweets that include the username associated with the account (i.e., ‘mentions’ or ‘replies’).”
Wonder if they did the same with Truth Social?

“Turn the other cheek” ignores the historical meaning. JImmy Akin, who is a MASTER apologist, explained it. If one was hit with the back of the hand, it was an insult. To make the hitter respect the individual defending Christianity, one should turn the other cheek to make the hitter strike with the palm, which was a sign of respect.
That’s the stuff that’s been lost to history.
Nonetheless, I remain glad that I choose to use my own name. I watched this video this morning. It is about a group of Israeli tanks that responded to the October 7 attack. The twist is, the tanks crews are all female, the first ever in a Western war.
What’s interesting is that you don’t really find out that this report is more of a justification for using all female crews until the end. Up until then, it seems more like this is a story about the tank crews defense of a kibbutz. I mean, you know they are all women, but it seems more about the response on October 7 than about them, specifically, until the end.
But what it tells me is, the army did respond to the attacks early on the morning of October 7. These tank crews did, at least, and they came from the Egyptian border to do so.
Now, I realize this could be very skillful propaganda. But these women seem pretty real, and they are interesting to watch (it’s subtitled; none of it is in English). And the fact that none are English speakers makes me think that even if this is propaganda, it’s not directed at the West, i.e. us.
I found it worth 15 minutes, which I rarely do of videos.
Saw cut up versions of this, maybe some extra outtakes. Good story, maybe they should of gotten it out earlier to respond to the lack of response thing, though there was still a lack of response elsewhere in too many places. Also helps to combat the kibbutz’s being hit by friendly fire that Ritter and that other goofball Hinkle keep tossing up, just by describing the fog of war part of this.
Oh needless to say the anti Israel crowd are using out of context snippets of this to their advantage too.

I just watched the video and I agree it was valuable. It made my eyes water to think what they went through, learning that when someone invades your country, running over them and moving on is the correct action. The captioning it showed me was in English and I’m glad of that. I was so intent on seeing what they were saying that I did not know what language they were actually speaking.
