I have been using the Gab AI daily.
I enjoy the strategy games Civilization 5 and Banished. Arya cogently answers any questions about these games, apparently with a comprehensive “understanding” of the mechanics/rules.
I asked the Homesteader AI about lateral lines, a recent concern (disjointed clay piping) , and got a wonderful answer which may lead to a solution at a substantial savings.
I asked the Trump character what he thought about Plato. “Trump” said: Plato, now that’s a guy who knew how to build a wall. He believed in strong borders, just like me. He also knew how to create jobs, like in my administration. Great guy, believe me!
Oh did I laugh. And the marvelous thing is that Plato did discuss walls, borders and jobs. Like Trump, sort of.
Using the Gab AI has made me realize how often each day I have a question about something, anything. The search for the answer takes time, sometimes a lot of time. The Gab AI is always immediate, and the answers on objective type questions are the best I could expect from any source.
At my advanced age this phenomenon is just astonishing, and like so many astonishing things it is capable of both good and bad. As with so much in life, integrity and truth are the principal factors.
Torba sent out a great newsletter about AI. He honestly thinks that Google’s stumble here is an opportunity for Gab AI to beat woke Google to relevance. He also says that he doesn’t see the need to build a Gab search, because of exactly what you’re saying – the AI will go straight to the best answer.
All we need to do is, have an honest AI.
Gab may be the only good answer, from what little I’ve read.
The Gab AI is great for many searches, but at present it is not complete for others.
For instance, it will not give you a list of plumbers in your area. It says it does not have “access” to them. This is apparently a programming decision.
Although it WILL affirm that the Smith Brothers Co. ARE plumbers in your area.
Oddly, it did give a short list of Italian restaurants in my area, including short descriptions. It acknowledged many more and suggested “checking online,” which is what I thought I was doing.

As I understand it, common law is a default. It’s what you have if a legislature didn’t pass some other law overriding it.
That, of course, means the legislature is the supreme authority.
If that isn’t enough the US Constitution, as duly ratified ca. 1789 is to be regarded as the supreme law of the land, overriding state law (Article VI, second paragraph).

The principles and history seem thoroughly researched and logical, but most of the time when people try to use these Common Law remedies, they don’t have enough knowledge (or experience), and a judge (apparently judges do understand these things, whereas many lawyers do not) can sabotage their efforts.

That’s my biggest gripe with the current crop of electric cars.
They feel like iCars and I don’t get the warm fuzzy that I own it and can repair it instead of being forced to buy a new one every couple of years.
Electric cars don’t have to be that way–there’s nothing inherent in the drive technology that means it has to phone home for instructions–but that’s the way it has been done.
It is my understanding that, at least with Tesla, the primary objectives are:
1) obsessively reducing the weight of everything, because the lower the weight, the greater the distance the car can travel before needing recharge.
Employees are rewarded for coming up with ideas for weight savings, even extending to the wiring harnesses, which have been substantially reduced in length and complexity (and therefore weight) compared to regular cars. Every little bit helps, because it all adds up.
2) optimizing everything for manufacturing efficiency, which generally (and now exclusively with Cyber Truck and other models going forward) means everything is designed to be put together by robots.
Weight savings extends range, to make the EV range reasonably competitive with a tank of gas in a regular car.
Efficiency of manufacturing dramatically lowers labor costs, resulting in EVs that are competitive in price with regular cars, while still being profitable.
These two things take precedence over all else, including ease of repair work, because without them, they don’t have a viable product.
It is what US Manufactures used to do before the 1980s Leverage Buyout Feeding Frenzy that transferred US manufacturers to FOREIGN OWNERS.
Then came the World Trade Organization “Free Trade” agreement of the 90’s. Between the two moves America has been quietly sold off piece by piece. This is a sampling of the industries with over 50% foreign ownership, according to Source Watch (July 2008)

If so, I expect it is because random car repair shops are not trained or certified on Tesla repair.
When practically everything is proprietary, having someone who doesn’t have the right tools and diagnostic equipment and training work on the car is probably a recipe for disaster.
If Tesla cars and trucks ever become a significant percentage of cars on the road, it would make sense for Tesla to work with car repair shops to establish some kind of training and certification process, to make servicing Teslas easier.

IMO, and it’s just that, my opinion, it’s about professional journalism. It’s the same in music. Copyrights are how you make money. The show I was in last night and last weekend was free just because of that. You can ask for a freewill offering, but not make a profit if there is a copyright involved with any stage presentation. Unfortunately, Dawn was using some of the work done by the Corps of Engineers on existing rivers as a mental model; she was thinking some hydroelectric power could be recovered from the water flowing downhill on the canal.
The problem is it would have to flow downhill from highland desert; there’s no water there and it’d have to be pumped uphill.
The Panama canal operates by collecting the water from lots of rainfall in an artificial lake (Gatun, if memory serves), and letting that flow downhill through the locks. Once the water in the lowest lock is drained, it’s at sea level, and is gone from the system. In a canal running through highland desert, all of that water must be pumped up, thousands of feet in elevation across hundreds or even thousands of miles. Oh, but some of that could use the Rio Grande, but I don’t believe that river supplies nearly enough water.
We’d probably want to do this with salt water pumped uphill from the ocean since fresh water is at a premium.
How about presenting Daughn’s idea to Elon. It would be more fun to make that happen than going to Mars. Plus he would be around to see his great grandchildren.

Poll: Garvey Leads Schiff In California Senate Race
The race to become the next senator of California has tightened as Representative Adam Schiff and Republican candidate Steve Garvey are in a statistical tie in California’s nonpartisan Senate primary.
According to a poll released on Friday by the Institute of Governmental Studies (IGS) at the University of California, Berkeley, it was revealed that Garvey had 27% support while Schiff (D-Calif.) had 25%.
