Obviously they used Perkins Coie a LOT to funnel money to do off the books work. An audit there would be revealing. Discovery will be… interesting.
Pretty sure they were counting on Perkins Coie to be the firewall between the campaign and their illegal opposition research operation, using attorney client privilege to shield inquiry into where the money went and what it was used for. No doubt they’d gotten good at this little trick and were using it, a lot.
When we talk about Spygate this point really gets the short shift in the treatment. We talk about a co-int operation illegally spying on the campaign, and when we trace the origin back we say it was paid for political dirt from Perkins Coie paid for by the Hillary campaign! So we know the origin was political dirt. What we’ve glossed over here is that the Hillary campaign is in major violation of campaign laws by doing this! And it’s obvious they knew it to – so they used one of their favorite backdoors, funneling money through a reliable law partner, using attorney client privilege as cover, and using that to start the ball rolling on oppo research.
Now at every point from there on, everything just gets WORSE. This is when the illegal searches of the NSA database occur. Shortly after that Nellie Ohr enters the picture as a fixer for the illegal searches. Team Brennan kicks off an operation against George Papadop trying to make him their dope to give legal cover for the database activity. Meanwhile Nellie is using the HAM radio to coordinate data drops to exchange info as the phony dossier is assembled, which she connects to the DoJ through Bruce. That finally gets them the FISA, on their second(?) try, and now not only are they CYA themselves, they’ve got several unwitting embeds in the Trump campaign.
But really all this activity, AS BAD AS IT IS, is CYA activity for the Hillary campaign’s blatant and flagrant violation of campaign finance laws.
If that were made public, and if the MCM covered it AS IT OUGHT TO BE, by itself it would be a huge and damaging scandal on the Hillary campaign. They had to protect her from that damage.
Unfortunately, Hillary scandals kept resurfacing anyway, those pesky emails and that pesky email server…
But all this other criminality really distracts from a major crime at the origin: The Hillary Campaign brazenly and intentionally violating campaign finance laws, using their law firm as a legal firewall to provide cover under attorney client privilege.
The same attorney client privilege that Mueller later threw aside to get at Michael Cohen. They were convinced since they’d used that dirty trick so effectively in the past, SURELY DJT had done it too…
With anyone else it might have worked.
But the didn’t realize who they were up against.
Not that I think you’re wrong on the violations of campaign finance, but I believe the Clinton Foundation is the bigger issue. The “donations” were essentially pay to play bribes from foreign governments.
I think there are much bigger crimes with the Clintons, but Spygate recaps really gloss over this whopper, which sets the stage for motive on keeping things under wraps. It’ll be 50 years before we really know the extent of Clinton corruption.

When we lived in Newhall, one of our pets disappeared on July 4. She was scared of fireworks and ran off into the hills. We lived in an oil pumping area, and there were always sumps for oil that went around the seals…..and water-based critters don’t float on oil. Alternatively, there were coyotes in the area. There weren’t as many resources for frightened pooches then, and it was rougher country. It is a sad memory for an otherwise happy day.

C-17 reliable and can use short and unimproved runways, IIRC.
C-5 not nearly as reliable, requires large / long improved runways.
