Valley of the Shadow of Death
Psalm 23:4, which reads, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me” (ESV), is one of the most well-known verses in the Bible. It is commonly used during funerals or by those approaching death. The message of Psalm 23:4 is one of comfort. We do not need to fear. God is with us, and His presence gives us strength and hope.
However, “valley of the shadow of death” is possibly not the most accurate translation of the original Hebrew text. The NIV, NLT, and HCBS translate the phrase as “darkest valley,” resulting in Psalm 23:4 reading as, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley . . . .” The Hebrew word for “shadow of death” is sal-ma-wet, which means “darkness” or “dark shadows.” It contains the same root as the Hebrew word for “death” (ma-wet), so it is easy to see why some Bible translators include the mention of death in Psalm 23:4.
In addition, the concept of darkness fits much better in the context of Psalm 23. Psalm 23, especially verses 1–4, uses the language of a shepherd and his sheep to describe our relationship with God: “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. . . . Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me” (Psalm 23:1–4).
Sheep do not understand the concept of death. They do understand, though, that entering a dark valley can be dangerous. The point of Psalm 23:4 is that, even when we might have reason to be afraid, we do not need to fear, because God is with us, and He will take care of us. He, like a shepherd, knows what He is doing and has our best interests in mind.
So, it does not appear that “valley of the shadow of death” is the most accurate translation in Psalm 23:4. A “dark valley” connects much better with sheep lying down in green pastures and beside quiet waters. However, the main point of Psalm 23:4 still definitely applies to death. Many people fear death, and those facing death certainly feel as if they are in a “dark valley.” But even in death we do not need to fear, for God is with us, and He will protect and comfort us through it all.

Today most of the Michigan clan is gathering to celebrate my parents’ 62nd anniversary. This will be the First Time all 5 Great-Granddaughters will be together (ranging in age from 1 month to 2 1/3 years). It will hopefully be a special time. When my parents reached Five Granddaughters they already had Five Grandsons. So far there is only One Great-Grandson, but he lives in OK w/ my brother’s daughter & SIL so they won’t be present. We are all thankful for a Godly Heritage & full quivers!
My middle granddaughter turns One tomorrow. How time flies 🙂

It’s all a matter of perspective. I just hit the big 6 OH (no) in February. I’m the oldest of 3 kids & older than all my SIL’s (current & former) & even beat my hubby by almost 3 years. I jokingly say it took God almost 3 years to create a guy that could be my “perfect match”…& he is technically a miracle child himself. His father was “shot in the balls” by his own father & never expected to have children. His dad had been married at least once before & his ex sued my teenage hubby for his (minimal) inheritance after his father died, but Hubby’s side won in court. There still was speculation that he might not have been his dad’s bio child but Ancestry DNA has pretty much put that all to rest now. My husband’s dad was 56 when he was born, which was about my hubby’s age when he became a grandfather. Hubby’s mom “dedicated him to the Lord” when he was a baby, & at that time she wasn’t even a Christian! God’s miraculous Hand has been a part of the journey in numerous ways 😇

All of the gender stuff that’s happened in the last 4 years, started with drag queen worship. Then it moved over to trans adults, next trans teens and then trans children. Then it was nonstop hype for trans clinics to mutilate one sex to the other. Now it’s no sexual organs at all?
Bona fide surgeons and medical professionals are participating in all of it. Mental health professionals are mute.
Something bad has happened to humanity for this to have morphed into acceptable practice this quickly.
Even though there are millions worldwide that don’t accept it , it continues on with each next step worse than the last one.
It all leads back to what they really want. No reproduction. This dolling your genitals thing really demonstrates it.

Many men have been devalue at work place sometimes at home. I have seen it over dominating women sometimes guys also. Kids see a unrealistic picture concerning relationships.

There is no date because we have free will. Therefore, nothing can be hard set in advance.
What our Creator does [has done] is lay out an agenda and a time line. He has told us in Scripture about certain events that will happen along that time line [prophecies].
That way, when those things happen, we can know how far along the time line we are.
The only hard point I know is that Scripture has said that the Gospel must be preached to all the world before Christ will return. Exactly what that looks like is murky at best. The best course of action is to get right with God and stay that way.

When there is no rule of law, passing more laws is not the answer.
