Christian Hope
Most people understand hope as wishful thinking, as in “I hope something will happen.” This is not what the Bible means by hope. The biblical definition of hope is “confident expectation.” Hope is a firm assurance regarding things that are unclear and unknown (Romans 8:24-25; Hebrews 11:1, 7). Hope is a fundamental component of the life of the righteous (Proverbs 23:18). Without hope, life loses its meaning (Lamentations 3:18; Job 7:6) and in death there is no hope (Isaiah 38:18; Job 17:15). The righteous who trust or put their hope in God will be helped (Psalm 28:7), and they will not be confounded, put to shame, or disappointed (Isaiah 49:23). The righteous, who have this trustful hope in God, have a general confidence in God’s protection and help (Jeremiah 29:11) and are free from fear and anxiety (Psalm 46:2-3).
The New Testament idea of hope is the recognition that in Christ is found the fulfillment of the Old Testament promises (Matthew 12:21, 1 Peter 1:3). Christian hope is rooted in faith in the divine salvation in Christ (Galatians 5:5). Hope of Christians is brought into being through the presence of the promised Holy Spirit (Romans 8:24-25). It is the future hope of the resurrection of the dead (Acts 23:6), the promises given to Israel (Acts 26:6-7), the redemption of the body and of the whole creation (Romans 8:23-25), eternal glory (Colossians 1:27), eternal life and the inheritance of the saints (Titus 3:5-7), the return of Christ (Titus 2:11-14), transformation into the likeness of Christ (1 John 3:2-3), the salvation of God (1 Timothy 4:10) or simply Christ Himself (1 Timothy 1:1).
The certainty of this blessed future is guaranteed through the indwelling of the Spirit (Romans 8:23-25), Christ in us (Colossians 1:27), and the resurrection of Christ (Acts 2:26). Hope is produced by endurance through suffering (Romans 5:2-5) and is the inspiration behind endurance (1 Thessalonians 1:3; Hebrews 6:11). Those who hope in Christ will see Christ exalted in life and in death (Philippians 1:20). Trustworthy promises from God give us hope (Hebrews 6:18-19), and we may boast in this hope (Hebrews 3:6) and exhibit great boldness in our faith (2 Corinthians 3:12). By contrast, those who do not place their trust in God are said to be without hope (Ephesians 2:12, 1 Thessalonians 4:13).
Along with faith and love, hope is an enduring virtue of the Christian life (1 Corinthians 13:13), and love springs from hope (Colossians 1:4-5). Hope produces joy and peace in believers through the power of the Spirit (Romans 12:12; 15:13). Paul attributes his apostolic calling to the hope of eternal glory (Titus 1:1-2). Hope in the return of Christ is the basis for believers to purify themselves in this life (Titus 2:11-14, 1 John 3:3).

OK, Maker Faire Day 1.
Due to some missteps, I arrived on Mare Island at 10:00 — the official opening time. Like “rope drop” at Disneyland, this meant I was behind a major crowd of people and told to pay $20 and use the East Bumf*** parking lot, to get shuttled-in by repurposed school buses.
As a complete aside, I have never looked at buses the same way after seeing Disney World’s masterful use about 20 years ago. When Disney closes a park, they will stack buses five deep to take-in the crowds of people for each destination bus stop — they park each bus at the wheel of the previous bus so it’s “front of bus A, door of bus A, half front wheel of bus A, front of bus B, door of bus B, half front wheel of bus B, front of bus C” and so on. They load dozens of people in parallel at each destination bus stop across about eight bus stops, so they can suck-up thousands of people exiting the park and get them redistributed efficiently. All of this is routed from a centralized location that monitors everything on video in real time. It is truly a thing of beauty.
Maker Faire’s buses were nothing like that. They made people walk across large stretches of their improvised parking lot to a single bus pickup point, where they fully loaded each bus before sending it off and starting to load another. Anyone with a stroller significantly delayed the process. There were no signs to guide anyone. It’s not like Maker Faire has a shortage of smart people, but it was clear that the whole parking experience was out-of-scope.
I had a prepaid ticket when I got to the venue, so swept right in — but they had about eight security lanes behind the ticket scanners, and the ticket scanners were sorted by type — so five of the security lanes were overbooked and three were essentially idle. I shifted into an idle one.
I made a beeline for the BAEM club, which was literally at the farthest point possible within the bounds of the event. I said, “hi” and looked around a bit, then went and looked at half the stuff. I then went back and annoyed people at the booth for a couple of hours.
The guys at the booth seemed to appreciate my improvised schtick — I’d look for someone who was paying attention, tell them some interesting generic things, drill down into some interested detailed things about specific engines, then hand them off for detailed stuff to the actual guy who had made the engine and was standing there. That meant that the engine builders didn’t have to stand silently while people didn’t know what they were looking at, but instead got people who were pre-loaded with information and revved-up. The attendees seemed to enjoy it, too.
I was going to help pack things up, but was told that it was under control, so I kept entertaining people until I started to worry about catching the shuttle bus back to the improvised parking lot. The show nominally closed at 5:00, the shuttle buses stopped at 6:00, and I was on the third-from-the-last bus back out there. No pressure —
Interesting generic things —
A while back, you could get “casting kits” for building popular engines. This could save large amounts of time because you’d only have to machine-work surfaces that encountered other machined surfaces. [point out examples on display] This is less-and-less common as times go on. Instead, engines are often machined from blocks of metal, or “billet” [point out examples on display].
If you go into your local O’Reilly Auto Parts and ask for a spark plug 1/3 the size of a particular engine’s plugs, they’ll just look at you funny — so members of the club are frequently tasked to manufacture their own spark plugs. If you look at a standard spark plug, you’ll notice the white insulator is ceramic…..which is bad because you cannot machine ceramic. So you’ll need to make your custom spark plugs with a custom machinable insulator. Most folks in the club use Corian (TM), the kitchen counter material. You wouldn’t want to try to drive to Fresno using a Corian-insulated plug, but these are models run a few minutes at a time [points out engines run recently].
Interesting specific thing —
The last three engines on this table are Atkinson engines [it’s a real thing — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atkinson_cycle ]. They are characterized by the bizarre and complicated linkage you can see over by the flywheel. Believe it or not, at one point the straightforward way of making an internal combustion engine was patented by Otto, so the peculiar Atkinson linkage was a means of avoiding that patent. The asymmetric aspect — it exhausts more in the exhaust cycle than it compresses during the compression cycle — is a bonus that is being further explored today…..a hundred years later…..

Some medieval manors almost never had to trade…they grew their own food, made their own tools (they had a blacksmith), etc., had a forest they could get lumber from, but even they occasionally had to trade with someone for something. The term for this is “Autarky”, or it would be, if the manor was actually completely self-sufficient.
Modern technology has made us more, not less, interdependent.

Amen! I think hopeful ones are not nearly as frequently in the Dems camp given Kakala’s reaction to the “Jesus is Lord” declaration. If the majority of Dems would get saved and actually attempt to follow Christ that would reduce A Lot of America’s problems, and by extension those of the world!
All she did was reveal her misconception that followers of Christ are no different than followers of the donkey and/or the elephant – just another political party.

That anchor holds through all the storms of life.

Yes – very good song. Ultimately, I turned against it after a while, because I could smell the “Nashville taken over by the left agenda” seeping through. Maybe it’s just me, but after watching the changes in country music, I realized what is going on – something much more subtle, but similar to the demonic pop tarts in Hollowwood, who are made OK to kids and then “mutated” to the agenda. Miley Cyrus was like the intersection of Nashville and Hollowwood in that regard. The “country hotties going feminist and then anti-Trump” thing is a thing, and I had to turn away from it.
Is Carrie Underwood in that camp? I don’t pay attention to her, or really any of it, but iirc she was billed as a Christian back in her American Idol days. My mom had a friend who was very excited about her because of that & her OK pedigree.
She’s also been elevated as an opening songstress for the NFL so I guess that’s automatically suspect. Whoever gets put in our face a lot often seems to have backing of entities that are likely not aligned with conservative or Christian thinking.
Listen to the songs, read the lyrics, watch the videos, and see who gets the breaks, the sweet gigs, the heavy rotation in “hot country” – and you will see the agenda. The personal views and thoughts of the artists are not as important as the messages they are given to front.

If there is no brain activity, but the brain has not suffered necrosis, the person may recover.
But, healthy body parts are worth over $200,000.
My niece Madison had a car accident and had a head injury but was still breathing on her own. Her parents were told she was brain dead because there was no brain activity. We begged my sister to give Madison time, she might recover as her brain likely had not begun to necrosis.
Within 24 hours of Madison’s accident, the organ transplant team gave a compelling manipulative presentation with pictures of people waiting for transplants to Madison’s bereaved parents, saying look at all the people you can help… you can choose who gets specific organs, who would you like to get her heart, her lungs… Madison’s parent were swayed and Madison was never given time to recover.

I can’t remember where I read it, but a doctor was stating “brain-dead” is a misnomer and patients that get their organs harvested can feel it but are given meds so they can’t react. 1

I took myself off the organ donation list many years ago when I realized that they could use the ‘brain dead’ in an arbitrary manner, and what that meant for organ harvesters. At this point, I’m old enough my organs likely have no harvest value, but I’m not giving them any leeway to make that decision!
I took myself off the last time I renewed my license, based on info learned here at the Q-Tree. Boy did that generate mixed feelings given my son being a transplant recipient.
In reading many comments at the NYP article Wolf shared above it sounds like you can not mark your DL as an organ donor but can make donation wishes known to family so if the end is coming they can allow the process to unfold, but hopefully in a way that your medical care isn’t shorted to create a donation situation.
DW and I are no longer organ donors.
We don’t want some greedy fools selling our organs.
Also don’t want to be unplugged, cuz some hospital weenie trying to get a bonus.
Organ donation, like the Constitution, was made for a moral people.

A second clue is the gratuitous mention of the Nuremberg Code. Most people don’t have a clue about the context of the Code or what it actually says. It is thrown about by those who pander to people who don’t think critically or do their own research. It’s “The COVID vax goes against the Nuremberg Code.”
“Nuremberg Code is now valid,” the meme says. What does that even mean? What do people think that means? That someone is going to sweep in now and say the COVID vaxes were all experimental (which is what the Nuremberg Code addresses) and must be stopped immediately? Does anyone see that happening? Of course not. We haven’t reached the point where the Code would be relevant, and we might not ever reach that point. Someone would have to prove that the vaxes were being used as experiments on people. We might believe they were, but for the Code to be a factor, that would have to be proven.
There are so many other problems with the vaxes that their experimental nature has not been explored, to my knowledge. I think people tend to believe that, at the very least, vaxes are being used to make money without due diligence, and at worst, that they are being used as a mass extinction tool.

From the counterpoint perspective I thought there was something called the Great Barrington Declaration, iirc, where many physicians (at least) signed on to this document about human rights abuses related to the covid situation & I thought they got into the weeds on the Nuremburg Code in that document.
I think PAVACA, amongst others, has said she has an “I’m a member of the Control Group” card that she carries in case anyone tries to force shots/”vaxes” on her, iirc. This would imply ongoing experimentation. However such cards are probably unofficial documents that free thinkers developed to represent their bodily autonomy visually in numerous problematic health domains.
Given that so many governments have been enthusiastically & coercively in on the bioweapons (covid, covid “vax”, monkeypox, rsv, H1N1, etc.) being deployed on their own populations it is highly unlikely that they will ever admit their in/direct involvement nor the experimental or inadequately investigated nature of these dangerous, disabling, & deadly substances, fwiw.
So unless groups other than governments can generate Nuremburg trials or investigations there likely will never be one, or so I would guess…

This is the Nuremberg Code. It is all about experimentation on human beings. It gives guildelines on how it should be done and makes it clear that the human subjects should be fully aware of what is going on. Some people objected at the time to even giving parameters for such a thing.

Some people thrive on being the “odd” one who believes the outlandish things. It brings them attention and can make them feel superior in that they *know* things that others don’t. They don’t care how foolish people think they look; in fact, that only feeds into their feelings of superiority.
Some people just can’t admit they’ve been wrong. If some of those guys do, I will respect them for that.

However, he has already been condemned by his cohort for going on the trip. Almost as if they know what will happen won’t be pleasing to them.

Maker Faire Day 2 — electric boogaloo —
So, yesterday, I had acquired a “Maker” (exhibitor) wristband from our show coordinator, so I shouldn’t have to park in the lot from hell, ride the bus, or be limited in time. I was running about 15 minutes later than the day before and the plan was for me to do the rest of the show and then settle in with the guys to help close the place out.
Imagine my surprise when I got there and the club was nowhere to be seen.
I found out later that show management had delayed access to the area until 5:50 the night before, which lead to the guy with half the engines unloading at home at 7 pm, though he lives nearby. Once he bagged it, the guy who managed the tents and tables bagged it, which meant that everyone decided to bag it….just as I reached my car at 6:15 to drive home.
Moving forward to this morning, I managed to acquire reasonable parking to be able to service our nonexistent booth and walked right in with the magic wristband in my hand (our club President had one on his wrist and almost fed it into the valves of one of the engines he was running, so it was a safety issue to not wear it on the wrist).
I went in through the Mare Island Brewing Company and bought a beer glass — I had one of a different design purchased last year. Further, I was informed that they sold their beer in cans. I then surveyed the pavement where our booth should have been.
Turning back to do the rest of the show, I discovered that I had done a larger portion than I had thought I had because two buildings in the middle were vacant. Had a couple of nice conversations, told some jokes, milled around, went back and purchased a book at MakerShed about analog electronic sounds (since I had seen the author’s presentation the day before and asked questions). Got a couple of t-shirts to cushion my beer glass, went back and purchased a 4-pack of mixed ales from the brewery, and left after about three hours. Frankly, it was for the best.
A couple of the random conversations stood out — at MakerShed checkout, there were only two cashiers, and they kept getting sidetracked into discussions about products or general technology. I commented that they had lost track of the primary consideration of retail — collecting the customers’ money. To my surprise, they emphatically agreed — the planning for this had been going along until rather late in the process, where they had been informed that funds were tight and they’d have to make do with fewer cashiers (the full discussion used “management” as a swear word). I’m sure that everyone understands that this is Not A Good Sign.
When I had arrived to find parking, I had been sent from lot to lot for a while until I could park. Each individual involved seemed unsure of what the right answer might be until I wheedled my way in. Again, poor planning and mismanagement.
They had a first-aid station there, and I talked with them for a bit (fortunately, they were not busy). There seemed like a lack of being proactive.
One observation was that they lost the cohort that knew how to do this stuff when COVID rolled through and they’re building it back through trial and error.
