I’m bringing this over from yesterday. Tonight there is a Wolf Moon (full moon in January), and I have also been able to see Mars near the moon.

I researched, and Eastern Standard Time is 5 hours behind UTC (Coordinated Universal Time).
Unfortunately, it’s too cloudy here to see it, as it usually is this time of year.
I was sitting in my Rogue and caught a shot with my cell phone. It’s not crisp like it was when viewing with just my eyes. Still, it’s interesting.
Is that Mars above the Moon, or a photographic artifact?
I am not sure, Wolf. I did not remember seeing it when looking with the naked eye, but there it is. 😍 My hands are not as steady nowadays but I just pointed and clicked the large white button on the screen. I cropped it smaller but otherwise did no editing.
Did catch it in binoculars. Cucking FOLD out.
I missed the main event obviously, since the moon was already a degree of arc past Mars (two widths of the full moon).
One time in high school or college I was hanging out with a buddy on his rear deck and we watched a crescent moon catch up to a star and cover it (with the unlit part).
Found out later that “star” was actually Jupiter.
Most of the time I wouldn’t know what I was looking at, but there was a clear description of Mars and even a pictorial, so I feel certain that I saw it, which was nice.
Without binoculars (and glasses) I had to put my thumb over the moon and saw a haloing of Mars. Yikes, the warranty has definitely run out on my eyeballs!
I got some nice pictures tonight, with just my phone!
A few days ago, there was a great arc in the sky – Mars, Jupiter, Moon, [Neptune], Saturn, and Venus. I could see the big 4 and the Moon, and it was excellent.
Saturn should be in a north-south line with two of the stars in the “square” of Pegasus.
I can “see” it doing exactly that, underground, in my app!
Actually, Saturn’s rings will be going edge on this year.
I should make some efforts to watch it, even though it’s making the thing that makes Saturn interesting disappear.

So, if you use a grocery card for discounts, your health insurance company purchases your data from the grocery store and finds out you buy junk food, should they be able to raise your rates?
How about this: your health insurance company monitors your Facebook account, discovers you like to hike a dangerous trail; can they raise your rates? Or they find you eat out at McDonalds because you share this info with your friends. That’s junk food, so they should raise your rates for that?
Or your homeowners insurance company algorithm follows you on X. They find out you like to have big parties at your house, where you have bonfires in your back field. That’s a fire danger; can they raise your rates, based on that knowledge?
This “Big Brother” bullshit is getting pretty old to me. Secretly spying on people in ANY way to “gather data” on them should be illegal. If an insurance company wants to gather data, it should have to disclose that it will do so to purchasers, and in what ways it will do so. And we, as purchasers, should put the companies doing this shit out of business. We have a right to live our lives not at the mercy of mercenary, money-grubbing shysters.
The answer to all your hypotheticals is yes as long as it is disclosed AND they have some empirical evidence that those purchases affect or increase the company’s risk exposure.
The word “secretly” would strongly suggest to me that it was NOT disclosed!

I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. The dollar total includes $33.1 billion spent in the last five working days of September, which was 7% of the Pentagon’s contract and grant spending for all of fiscal year 2024. Only 11 other countries typically spend that much on their entire military in a full year.
On Friday, Sept. 27 alone, the DoD spent $11.7 billion on contracts and grants.
Federal agencies typically go on spending sprees at the end of the fiscal year, likely due to “use-it-or-lose-it” funding rules. They’re worried that spending less than their budget allows will cause Congress to give them less money the following year.
The largest expenses were in line with expectations, including $3 billion spent on ammunition and $7.9 billion spent on aircraft.

Your body basically sends your periphery into overdrive to stay warm. Long johns / thick leggings and a sweater indoors can be very helpful. Feeling warm indoors can stabilize you.
Also wondering if your doctor is running a yearly thyroid check (TSH) If the numbers are odd or marginal, you may have something going on there.

I have been off wheat for years, but ate some a couple nights ago — BAD MOVE! I was sick as a dog!
It’s 19 degrees here and the temperature is dropping rapidly. I’m not sure that’s in play.
Cold dry air is a major problem for me. I can bundle up in the winter, but it does not take care of the dryness. (I use an open Pyrex pan filled with water on my radiators)
We got a humidifier on our new furnace system a few years back. It makes a Huge Difference in comfort level in Winter. Our thermostat lists humidity & it’s been in the 20-30 some % but set to hit 45%. When it’s below maybe 35% our skin is drier & scratchier & the cold seems more penetrating even though the thermostat is set at 69…
I just checked. Temp 59 and humidity is 49% The gauge is above my desk and also has a clock.
Speaking of long johns, I just bought some Wranglers brand [IIRC I got ’em at Wal-Mart]. They are quite good – they do what they’re supposed to do.

Watch out for oxalates. They can cause inflammation. I recently found that my ‘Asthma’ gets a LOT WORSE if I eat foods high in oxalates.
This has happen since I had my bout with long haulers. I never had a problem before that. Also I took Vitamin I for a week with ZERO positive effect.
Try experimenting with a very low oxalate diet and then add a high oxalate food like spinach or beets and see what happens to your breathing. That is what I did.
Have you ever used a nebulizer? A friend go me one, and before today, I haven’t really felt the need to use it. She gave me a solution of O2H2. The whole thing is kind of mind boggling.

I also use Guaifenesin at times to thin out the mucus and make it easier to expel. “Guaifenesin is an expectorant. It helps loosen congestion in your chest and throat. “
However my normal Go To is hot tea with milk. The milk counters the oxalate in the tea.
Can’t do milk and am off tea for now. Lots of hot water, though.

Working on the kid’s home addition/remodel. Son in law was was clearly coming down with a cold yesterday morning. Handed him two – 12 mg Ivermectin pills and told him to take them. He did. Came back to the house this AM. He smiled and said, “Cold’s gone. Thank you!” I told him it does that for me every time and to quit depending on me, go buy some for himself. 😂

I have posted about our next door neighbor who has been jabbed and boosted several times along with catching COVID three times. He had a higher than normal PSA reading a year ago, had a biopsy that was negative. Despite counseling him to stop getting jabbed and what supplements to take along with Ivermectin, he followed his wife in continuing them and caught COVID again. He is now recovering from having his prostrate removed and hoping not to have chemo because “they got it early”. Of course what really happened we know about, it turbo’d on him.

I’m not defending them at all, but it occurs to me that, after getting all the perks mentioned, it’s not surprising that they are upset at having that come to an end. Again, not an excuse for them.
The whole “undocumented immigrant” attitude is out of whack. When you come here, you should do it humbly and gratefully, working to assimilate and support this country. Some of them offer support by working and some pay taxes, but they should be trying to become Americans rather than having enclaves that are just like their home country and forcing everyone else to accommodate them.
The sign “No one is illegal on stolen ground” is an example. I would deport that person immediately. I view anyone who comes here thinking America was stolen from Mexico or any other country or peoples as an enemy of this country.

I came across this in my reading this morning. It seems an excellent summary of the different emotional responses to the life and words of Jesus. The three responses are faith, opposition, and indifference. The following amplifies the characteristics of each. I thought it illuminating. Kierkegaard’s prayer at the end is marvelous.
Faith, in the present sense of the word, is a happy relationship with Jesus of Nazareth. As dialectical pathos, it will be marked by an emotional structure. Kierkegaard and the New Testament writers stress the emotional dimensions of the believer’s relationship to Jesus Christ. Thus when we speak of a “relationship,” we will have in mind a pattern (disposition) of emotional response to Jesus. That is a significant part of what the relationship amounts to. This relationship, above all others, will count as a virtue, an excellence of individual character, because it is not only a relationship with Christ, but is also a general virtuous orientation to God, creation, and the rest of humanity.
Emotional response is a crucial index of ordinary friendship, enmity, or indifference—that is, “relationship.” A friend is, in significant part, someone who is glad to be in my presence, rejoices when I am blessed, is saddened by my decline and fall, angered by those who undermine me and grateful to those who help me, who hopes for my well-being and regrets having let me down. An enemy is one who finds my presence irksome, holds me in fear or contempt, rejoices in my downfall or hopes for it, who is saddened when I do well, angry at those who help me and grateful to those who undermine me. Someone who is neither an enemy nor a friend is marked by emotional indifference in all these respects. Back in the day, HVAC guys in Silicon Valley became less like a regular trade and more like a bunch of prima donnas (clean rooms have to have positive air pressure and exotic filtration, and require a lot of HVAC expertise).
They haven’t outgrown it, despite those days being long past. Your cousin would be amazed at the way they cop attitude — we had one of our projects where the HVAC tried to stall off the T-bar because he wanted to take days off to go water-skiing, and our foreman was like, “you install in this week, W-F, or we’ll just bury you.” Sure enough, he flaked and got buried, then came back and tried to do a change order for additional labor. The negotiations for that went poorly for him — the original schedule, the original contract, and over a dozen e-mails showed that he did it to himself.
Maybe somebody wanted a cat scan of the furnace??? 🙂

SALLY 🌹Q UPDATE!
I’m home for 1-2 nights – depending on how things go with Sally Q. I filled up my car on the way into town just in case.
Needed to pick up the mail and see if the pipes had survived the cold spells. All is well with the pipes so far this winter. I had them wrap all the pipes in walls and under the slab when they built this house. I put styrofoam covers on the outside faucets every winter too. So far, no problem.
Sally is holding strong, still taking just one or two hydrocodone + tylenol per day, though she’s having a little bleeding that shows an invasion of tumor into tissue wall. I was disappointed that she didn’t want to try the alternative cancer treatments – Ivermectin and Fenbendazole, etc.
Slept in my own bed for the first time since December 1. Have started doing laundry, unloading car. Did toenails which were in dire need. Need to unpack and repack bags. Hope to do a little yard work, just to make the place look nice and lived in. That’s all good therapy.
